Written by the creator of Black History Month (which began as Negro History Week), Miseducation has served as a classic work in the areas of African American Studies and Education. According to Woodson, traditional modes of education have failed to help African Americans addressed the most pressing issues of their community. Instead, the most educated of the Black race have been inundated with ideas that prepare them serve other communities more effectively than their own. Almost 100 years old, Miseducation is still a staple of any curriculum centered on understanding Black history and culture.
