    I must say this is the most clear detailed explanation I have seen in UA-cam, and no one has ever made a video specifically for graphic designing (photoshop, illustrator etc.). Almost all the youtubers only speak by keeping gaming and video editors. So thanks a lot for making this very specific for graphic designers. Cheers👍

      I just received & set up my BenQ SW2700PT, thanks to your recommendation and I'm stoked to start designing with it! But I have a question. I know you said we shouldn't need to colour calibrate a monitor just out of the box, but it came with a note that says, "You must use a colorimeter and install the Palette Master Element tool before optimizing the display colour". What is this and do I need to do this as part of the setup of my new monitor? Or is this something I should do as colour maintenance in a year's time?

      In theory, there will be a printer profile that you can install on your OS so that you can see the exact printer colours on a colour accurate monitor. There should also be a printed book of colour swatch to compare against the monitor to make sure the printer profile is installed correctly and is accurate.

    I used to do computer art, back when a mouse was your only tool. From then until now, I have noticed that your image always looks darker when viewed on a phone than on a monitor. I'd usually compensate by looking at it on my phone as well as my monitor and adjusting it until it was acceptable on both. Is there a monitor that allows you to see how your image would look with no backlighting to the screen? (Yes I realize that I am showing my age, but I remember when you only had *16* colors)

    • @teohyc

      LCD monitor uses backlight. Ultimately, there's no way to control the devices that people use to view your work. So the best you can do is to get it right on your own display.

      For good contrast without breaking the bank get a VA monitor. I used to work a lot with ink and it's criminal how nobody recommends VA when IPS and TN have poor contrast and it's one of the most important things your eyes pick up on. Switching from IPS/TN to VA the different shades of black became immediately visible.

      If you're talking about the the 1440p one then it's really good. You can go for it if you need an IPS panel. If you're okay with a monitor that has VA panel (as good as IPS at color reproduction and a little worse viewing angles) then there's BenQ EW3270U. It is 4k, VA panel and 32 inches for a decent price(less than the monitor you're talking about).

    Hello man.
    First i want to say i´m glad i find you r videos. You are so clear and direct. I´ve read a lot of revies on some pages and seen come videos but at the end of the day they can confuse you.
    Second, i would like to ask for your opinion, please.
    I am looking a monitor for CAD, BIM, 3D Modeling, and Adobe Suite, mostly render post-production, matte painting, lightroom and illustrator, of course also some offimatic. As you mention, i might print some times, but i don´t need it being exactly like the screen. maybe in the future.
    But i don´t know what woulb be more convenient, a 24" or a 27". My idea is to actually have 2 and put it side to side almost like yours in the video, so i think maybe it´s not neccesary a 27", but is more efficient having 2 of 24". But is always good to read what an expert thinks. another option is a 27" and a 24", in your case the 2 monitors are 27"?
    Another doubt is, if i buy the 24", should i go for the FHD or QHD?, Is this really make a big difference?
    Right now i have this in mind, please tell me what would be the more convenient Teoh, i would really appreciate it.
    DELL ULTRASHARP 25 USB-C U2520D (in this case, it would be this 25" and a 24" later)
    ASUS ProArt PA248QV - 24."
    ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV- 27"
    BenQ BL2420PT 24"
    DELL 24" CON USB-C P2421DC
    Also i like the Dell U2415 you talk about on the article.
    I like the BenQ model but i don´t know if not having USB C is a really bid issue or not at all? Also some models claims it covers sRGB and Adobe RGB, is that true? I´ve read the article and i understand Adobe RGB monitors are most expensive, but for example the BenQ BL2420PT is not expensive but they say it is 100% Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB, but maybe it don´t have the 1 billion colors as you say, and it´s only the trick you mention.
    So, i think the better option is to buy an sRGB monitor and in the future a trully AdobeRGB monitor.
    Sorry for so many text.
    What do you recommend me, 2 monitors of 24"? in that case, is FHD is enough? or go for QHD? or one 25 or 27" QHD and second monitor FHD.
    Thank you for your time if you can read this.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  4 роки тому +1

      Dual monitors is good if you need another monitor to see something all the time, eg reference, or checking incoming emails (every minute). I do recommend the Dell U2520D because it’s a good size to have for dual monitors, and resolution is good for that size. It’s sRGB monitor so it’s significantly cheaper than Adobe RGB monitor which I don’t think you may need if you are not checking printed proofs against your screen all the time.

      Thank you so much for your response.
      I guess i will go for the DELL U2520D.
      But just to be clear, can i ask you something, sorry for all the questions, it´s just i´m really new at this subject about monitors, right now i´m working on my laptop, Alienware 17 R3, and on my last "formal" job we have 2 monitors, that´s when i liked dual monitors, i feel it´s really helpful, but those were FHD monitors.
      It doesn´t make a big difference the fact BenQ and ASUS models are supposedly made specific for "design"? are there some marketing tricks only?
      Next mont i start "Design and Visual Communication" degree, that´s why i´m buying the monitor, that´s and improve the current work i´m doing.
      There are features i like like the Display Pilot on Benq 24 and the guide lines on Asus proart, but also there´s something about Dell models that i like about it.

      I will ask someone from dell service, but apparently sometimes they don´t know either.

If you have the time, could you tell me what you think about this monitor? LG 27GL850-B (~ $550), another monitor i have my eyes on is: ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-mhd (~$400) . Both are 1440p , 27-inch wide, have about 130% sRGB and more than 90% adobeRGB, 10-bit colors, and have 144 Hz refreshrate. But since I dont plan on playing a lot of games, i probably don't need the high refreshrate. Might be better to look for 4K monitors with normal 60 Hz refreshrate. Anyway thanks for the video. I had no idea that adobeRGB is only important when you print your work. That might make my decision easier.

I'm going to school for Web Design and I do some Graphic Design on the side. Both monitors are good but the LG 27GL850-B seems to have issues with contrast ratio with most people getting ~700-800:1 (In some models, but there is a 27GL850-B and a 27GL850 WITHOUT THE "B" and idk the difference) while the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD has older ports like Displayport 1.2 compared to the LG's Displayport 1.4.

      I recommend either Dell or BenQ monitors because they are worth the money. If you are not going to be comparing against printed proofs, just go for sRGB monitors. If you have limited budget, consider 27 inch 2560 x 1440 resolution monitors. For 4K monitors, for Mac users, get at least 32 inches, otherwise just get 27 inch. Those criteria should narrow down the options to less than a handful. I can't recommend exact models because there are too many models for me to remember.

    @Teoh Yi Chie Thank you for your very kind suggestions about choosing the right display for are needs. Actually I have some doubts. I am choosing between Lg Nano IPS (32ul950) vs Dell Ultrasharp (u3219q) vs Asus proart (pa329c) monitor for my professional work. I know that Lg main selling point is that NANO technology which should actually bring higher contrast ratio and that LG and Dell are sRGB monitors in comparison to Adobe RGB which is Asus monitor. In the rTINGS comparison between DELL and LG, Dell achieved higher contrast ratio than LG and even higher nits even if it is HDR400 in comparison to HDR600 so I guess that NANO technology is just a marketing. And my questions are:
    1. If Asus has lower static contrast (1000:1) in comparison to LG and DELL (1300:1) which display will look a bit "dull" and washed like?
    2. But Asus has much better dynamic contrast in comparison to LG and DELL whether it can compensate for the lower static contrast to bring a vivid, colorful picture?
    3. They all have about the same brightness levels 350-400cd/m2 but asus being Adobe rgb monitor has much better almost 100% color coverage. Does this mean that the picture on that monitor will look the most colorful of them all? Which factor is the reason for having vivid, amazing picture quality for daily use (youtube, movies..ect)
    Is that brightness or color coverage, 10bit vs 8bits+frc, static or dynamic contrast or even type of matte coating (because these are all matte).
    Thank you :)

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  3 роки тому

      If your work is mostly going to be presented online, you can just go with sRGB monitors.
      AdobeRGB has wider colour space than sRGB, but AdobeRGB is mostly for print designers. AdobeRGB monitors are also noticeably more expensive than sRGB monitors.
      100% Most sRGB monitors will be using 8bit or 8bit+FRC. 100% AdobeRGB monitors are usually 10bit displays.
      As for contrast ratio, 1000:1 compared to 1300:1 may seem like a lot on paper but in real life the difference is not going to be that noticeable. 1000:1 contrast ratio is already very good.

    • @stefanbanovic
      @stefanbanovic 3 роки тому

      @@teohyc Thank you for your answer :) I do a lot of work for online presentation but sometimes it is in print form as well. But my main concern was if I use a monitor in free time like a TV which one is going to have the best colors and to be bright and vidid. Actually what is the thing that make displayed picture pop more (almost oled like experience)? Is it static contrast? Dynamic one? Or Brightness? Wider color profile?
      For example I know that Mac computers have great looking (doesnt mean accurate) displays. They all have glossy finish and they have amazing brightness. So I guess Glossy finish, brightness, maybe static or dynamic contrast is the thing that makes them pop more then the rest of the displays?

    • @stefanbanovic

      @Teoh Yi Chie Also a big thing for me is PWM flicker free monitor (Dell, LG from the post -not as good).
      No one talks about it as an important topic. Many monitors suffer from that, and it is not that a big deal if you SEE flickering on the screen the WORST thing is affecting you in long term WITHOUT seeing it. A lot of us look at monitors all day since it's part of our job and in a long term PWM flickering can damage a lot of things health wise. That is why I think we should carefully read all the reviews about products we plan to buy and use for a long time ofcourse.

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141 3 роки тому +1

      @@stefanbanovic Unfortunately I don't test for the flicker as I don't have the appropriate equipment to test for that.
      If you want to use your monitor as a TV as well, it would be good to have a monitor that supports the P3 colours space. AdobeRGB monitors will look dull by comparison because it simulates print and print doesn't produce light. If you work with sRGB then it should be alright even if you don't switch to P3 to watch TV shows.
      If you really want to have good colours, go with IPS panels. And get a colour calibrator to calibrate the display. All those marketing text on brightness, contrast, colour profile, are not as important as the actual measurements from a colour calibration, and not as important compared to a properly calibrated display. But getting a colour calibrator is extra cost.

      @@pixeepixel4170 1440P resolution for 27-inch display is a good combination. I'm still using that today.

      4K won't have pixelation. Other than that, it comes down to how much table space you have.

    Hi Teoh, what do you think of LG brand like LG 27UL600? I'm considering it because it's much cheaper than dell U series with same specs.

      If it has the same specs, visual quality should be similar. Other things I will look out for will be the ports, adjustability, warranty

    I am a product designer who design for web, and would need a recommendation for a monitor not more than $200 thats the most I can afford now
