Anyone else notice how he wanted the tuna sushi. He actually got it, but gave it away.
I believe most people won’t take away toys from kids. Plus he had no space.

That wasn't a scam... it was just a malfunction. Definitely a thumbs up for returning kindness with kindness.
The scams are in the shady parts of kabukicho, not to say there aren't any but this is just a gacha machine like settle down
Pete is literally a national treasure at this point
Pete is the sole person lifting the image of America to the world. In the trash taste universe at least.
everyone is so nice to each other. its too wholesome.
Yeah I wish my country was like this. Instead most people are just afraid or annoyed at each other. In towns its a bit better but in cities most people dont give a shit about each other.
@@HansWurst1569 nah bro i think germans care way too much about each other and aren’t afraid thats the point. They can’t mind their own business always tend to stare and judge and if they comment something its always a harsh tone ( der raue ton im Ruhrpott )
@@HansWurst1569 lucky you, the dutch are way friendlier than the germans for the most part.
@@HansWurst1569 They may be rude, but from my experience they wont scam you. In a similar situation they also gave my money back, more along the line of eye-rolling and "this stupid machine again" But I still got my money back
As a Japanese person, I am very impressed with Petes deep understanding of Japanese culture and the way he handled this situation was very Japanese. Many people think that because you can now speak Japanese, then you can function as a part of Japanese culture, but they are SO wrong. Not wanting to bother the restaurant he politely declines to ask for his money back, he thanks the family for the help and apologies for the inconvenience the situation has caused. Seeing that it is Japan, someone will always step in to help, and this is believe it or not the most polite way to handle anything. When he gifts the kids the Gachapon, they refuse politely, showing him that they just wanted to help, he understands that and leaves them no choice but to accept. The mom probably told the kids to go say thank you properly and show him what they got.
I know that this is not unique to Japan, many cultures around the world are full of respectful and kind hearted people who only wants the best for everyone. But this is a perfect example of what makes Japanese culture so unique. Being willing to immerse yourself into the way the Japanese understand the world as a foreigner includes you in the circle. When someones falls others are there to catch you. This is not the case everywhere in Japan and not in every situation. But this was a very nice example of this effect.
I know next to nothing about Japanese Culture, but this was very well written and made me understand this situration. Thank you for that
And yet they ignore kidnapped kids (Ana Saito) asking for help because general population don't want to be bother to help 13 year old pleading for help in the street.
Japanese can be very ignorant to another's pain, just like Chinese.
the amounts of sumimasen and thank yous is so wholesome indeed. what a polite culture
Hey are the any other polite phrases you could tell me written like they are pronounced ? I only know sumimasen itadakimasu arigato gozaimasu and gomen nasai
@@KisukeUrahara2001 from what I know, everything in japanese is pronounced the way they are written.
But to add to the list, you could say greetings like ohayou, konbanwa or expressions like ojamashimasu, gouchisousamadeshita, douitashimashite, yoroshiku onegaishimasu. Also asking for items or services ending with kudasai, or polite favors ending with -masenka? Using doumo or douzo for smaller politness, adressing the listener with their surnames-san.. The list never ends lol. Idk if that's what you asked
@@KisukeUrahara2001 the general rule of thumb is the longer the phrase the more polite it is.

wholesome indeed, pete is just so much of a chad no cap
The fact that the family was saying no when pete was giving the gift was so sweet. The kids know a lot of manners
There's a cultural component; as I understand it when offered _any kind of gift_ from _pretty much anyone,_ the expectation is to refuse it a couple times, even if it's very obvious that you will end up accepting it and there's no good reason not to. It's one of the reasons tourists can come off rude, we're more likely to go "Oh hey thanks!" immediately, thinking we're being polite, but they like to take an excruciatingly long time to do everything haha.
I'm sure I've gotten some aspect of that etiquette wrong, feel free to correct me y'all, I'm hoping to go back soon and eager to learn!
@@Taurusus It's not uncommon in America to refuse acts of kindness or gifts at first either, at least in my experience. As much as people like to say Americans have a greedier culture or happy go lucky way about life, we're still often times humble, at least with strangers. I've had a few moments similar to this in my life.
@@Taurusus well as a Japanese, tbh I still don't know why I WANT TO refuse a gift once or twice even if I will end up accepting it. In this case, if I immediately receive a gift from someone I helped, I might start feeling like I helped him for the sake of it.
But to accept a gift immediatly is not that rude at all. Japanese people tend to refuse it on their own will... maybe lol
@@oooow6861 I always wondered about that, I've noticed a lot of things people are taught in do's and don'ts videos seem to at least to some extent, be exaggerated a bit. I've heard in regards to accepting gifts, complements and tips that it can be considered rude but when you ask people personally, nobody seems to take offense to any of these.
You cannot watch this with no smile.
I had a blank expression the whole thing but felt it inside nontheless not everybody is demonstrative.
Godamn... Seeing the children behave exactly like the mother is heartwarming.
I live in Japan and my wife is Japanese. My two daughters do the same (unless they're in a weird mood and want to act crazy and then they act like me kek)
but normally and especially in public they act like their mother
I can't believe I have lived this long without having a Pete in my life. I feel robbed!
Try to not get diabetes challenge level impossible
I gladly accept the diabetes from this video for how sweet and wholesome it is.
My heart melted... this is too much kindness from our man Pete... such a sweetheart
Sometimes people are amazing and sometimes people are horrible. Just remember for every bad thing you see or hear these days, there is a moment like the one in this video happening somewhere as well. Don't let the bad stuff weigh you down.
The internet likes to report on the bad things the most because it gets more clicks. So many good things happen daily it's just sad that its harder to see
I feel like Pete is that secondary character that disapears part way through the episode and comes back at the end with a 'You wouldn't believe what happened to me' kind of story.
Glad we can see what happens.
That mom seems so sweet, the way she laughed her butt off after Pete hit his head was great lol
I remember seeing Pete some years ago on Cool Japan on NHK thinking he was such a funny guy, and then when he turned up on Chris' Winter Hokkaido video, I thought holy shit, it's that guy from Cool Japan! He honestly makes Chris' and Connors videos so much more enjoyable, and he kind of reminds me of myself in some ways since we are the same age. I really hope he goes far in life and that his Twitch channel is a total success. It's not easy all the time making other people happy so I hope he knows how much he affects people and we appreciate it. Van Gang is always a blast (Ian and Paul are legends also). I come to Japan quite often to travel around. One day I hope to run into Pete and give him a big hug. Life has the been the worst it has ever been for me lately. Connor and Chris' cycle has been really uplifting. If any of the guys read this, thank you so much.
I think we have to thank Chris for introducing Pete to all of us. The first time I saw Pete was in Chris's video to Hokkaido to replace a mug or something. It kinda spiralled from there. Chris was also part of the reason he started streaming on Twitch.
I love thinking that one day these kids may find these videos, and realize just what was happening on our POV, this is too wholesome :)
Pete literally did a side quest
This is how it should be. Respect being showered left and right. I wouldn't have it any other way. I wish everyone was as nice and polite as Pete...
What an absolute champion this man is. If I turn out half as good as him I'll be a happy man
The fact that the whole family reacted the same way and literally did the same gestures when he set the toys down was adorable
Pete is straight up the nicest person I’ve ever seen idk how he stays so positive
I cant anymore... I think my heart just melted completely. It's just too wholesome ❤

That's so cute. You know what, I'm gonna watch it again right now.
Only saw the part where the kids approached Pete from Connor's POV
Glad to see the entire thing unfold here from Pete's perspective 👍
When even the kids frantically waved their hands that they dont need it shows to me how humble they are and how good the parents are at raising them.
Awww it's so nice to see something really wholesome like this. Pete is so wholesome!
My biggest weakness is people being humble. I never cry to anything really sad (except for in movies/anime), but when I see japanese hospitality in a youtube video I break down in tears. Wtf is wrong with me? xd
Japanese hospitality is really showing me how the USA is going in the total opposite direction since 1960 or something. There is no humility or politeness left! Watching these kind of japanese videos makes me adjust my attitude and reminds me I value these things and should pursue them.
so cute, the mom is a great person and the kids are raised well and have really good manners, this is so wholesome.
I wanna be like Pete when I grow up
This is the kind of clip I'm going to save so I can watch it every morning in order to start feeling good about my day
Got teary eyed from this. It was so cute
why am i nodding as well when i see them nod in the video, i think my mind is broken because of how polite that family was
The culture is just different. Seems like Pete really appreciates and understands the culture, especially being humble, grateful, and even going as far as making comments to suggest it could have been his error. All of that shows why he's really embraced their culture, and thus they treated him with the same level of respect. What a great interaction.
That's so cool and wholesome, but at the same time my introvert self is squirming in pain. I could never do that
Need a warning, this is too sweet.

i didnt know pete, but he really adapt to japan politeness,
whole interaction is sooooo much wholesome..
That's honestly really wholesome
When Pete Sensei kicks in. So wholesome
What a lovely interaction. Even the older daughter was straight away saying, "no, no", to the present in a way that showed she considered it too much for such a small action by her Mother in telling the staff about the problem with the vending machine.
Then the staff member feeling embarrassed and not being able to help him fast enough because the machine took his money and didn't give him anything.
Then the kids coming to show him the prizes inside. You'd be proud to have kids like that.
Complain about a vending machine malfunction in Australia and you'd be told, 'Sorry mate. Not our machines, you have to call the number on the machine" and probably said in a tone suggesting, Go F yourself.
Having to ring the machine owners to get your product or money back, I've always thought was wrong as the business agreed to have the vending machines on their property for a percentage of the machine's take, so they are as responsible for machine's transaction as the machine's owners.
Good karma all around. From the helpful family, the polite restaurant worker, to Pete, they show what it's like when people treat each other with kindness and respect. Something we can all learn from Japanese culture.
Dude, this was really sweet. I was smiling the whole time while watching this
Fuck this is too wholesome. My day instantly became 100x better
this was genuinely the sweetest interaction from every party
I wish everyone in america/the world was like Pete. The nicest person in existence.

how does Pete have such wholesome encounters every time? is it the hair? 😅
You can truly tell he was a Teacher. He gave things to the kids, then when they came to show him, he showcased and asked about the item they got. Pete truly is a Wholesome Man!

both from the mum's side and the employee's side!
I love it when parents do kind things and get their kids involved. They learn by example.
100%, this actually brightened my day.
As it should be
Absolutely. The mom was great, but the fact her daughter tried to help Pete too, that really shows the mom is a good parent.
Sadly in America you see a lot of kids that misbehave, but the kids usually just act how their parents let them, so if the parent isn't doing a good job, the kids misbehave.
