I'm learning the pattern now (I'm getting it), then I need to get the rhythm right, it's a bit awkward for me at the moment, might have to do a few listens, even though you wrote it down, the feel is a bit unusual for me. Then I can build up to step-dad speed and go from there. Some great tips though, I can apply those to my playing in general....

    It sounds very Christmasy - are you going for a Greg 'I Believe In Father Christmas' Lake vibe (which, incidentally, is the greatest Christmas tune ever). Are you up for a rock Santa gig in a Metal Moll? Will you play: Little Rock Drummer Boy? How about: I Saw Three Chords, (it's I Saw Three Ships, you oaf), or: Coventry Bomber (which is a WWII Motorhead mashup that might get you excluded from the Milwaukee lovely Boys Guitar Band). How about: Once In Royal David Coverdale's City? In The Deep Mid-Bass Solo? Oh Little Rock Star Of Bethlehem? Silent Humbucker, Holy Single Wound Pickup?

    Kee Marcelo from Europe does allot of sixes even numbers to play fast with amazing effect. (Three note per string repeating it then going to the next string and doing the same. ) I bought Kee Marcelo RHS instruction tape in 1992 , he does that on most of his all his solos. Check out “let the good times Rock” and Superstitious by Europe , incredible , solos girls drop their knickers for , Always ensuring he finishes with a plectrum stroke on a string that makes it easier to pick the next string to avoid nasty inside out picking

    Only use like 2 millimeters of the pick! Sweep when you can. Make sure all your fingers are equal in strength!! I can pick a little faster than Eddie Van Halen!! My accuracy is pretty on point! You have to have note intuition too !! I’ve always been able to pick fast. I had a great teacher that stayed on me about technique. Especially alternate picking and staying on my finger tips!! • @andrewbanas3036
    @andrewbanas3036 Рік тому

    I've looked at the pick slanting tutorials and demos. My conclusion is that as usual simple is better. Therefore rather than trying to learn downward and/or upward slants and escape picking motions I use and teach the elegantly simple approach that many fusion guitarists use: Rotation. The benefits, for me, are I have an easily repeatable up and downward picking motion that ALWAYS finishes above the plan of the strings. As a result I don't worry about inside or outside, odd or even picking, and string skipping issues, or even injuries. I just don't ever end up stuck below the plane of the strings. The rotation of the wrist does 100% of the picking and my forearm takes care of alignment. In fact alignment, which you also have to do with pick slanting anyway, is the trickiest part. No mixing of an injury prone, tension filled forearm shake into the picking motion. If you can lock and unlock your front door you have your up and down pick stroke.
    I have students hold an imaginary pick at the bottom of their rib cage and get that shaking/rotation action in their hand to feel the momentum build with little effort. Shorter arc equals faster tempo and vice versa. You can't shake your entire forearm or move you hand from side to side at the wrist that fast.
    And to master this you just need page 8 of DiMeola's Picking Technique book: one major scale pattern across all six strings and Tarantella, specifically the B section. That's it! Odd and even notes per string, back and forth between strings all over the place. No special secret sauce drills necessary. You can add legato and sweeps at will if needed.

    • @andrewbanas3036
      @andrewbanas3036 Рік тому

      I should add that light pressure of the heel of the hand on the bridge provides the fulcrum and for the arc and a reference point for aligning the pick with the strings.

    • @tobins6800
      @tobins6800 Рік тому

      Hah, I'm not the only one!!! It's more apparent when I do chord types with single note phrases. So I've been practicing that. Couple that with an exercise that I've been doing, 3 notes per string up and down, I've gotten more precise in my fingerings. Still kind of sloppy, but, that's kinda my style too. I am more of a rhythm player, and starting to want to gravitate from metal to rockabilly. What opened my eyes to how it all ties together is the Hendrix chords. So I do my exercise with 3 notes per string with 2 string groups. Sometimes I incorporate string skipping into it as well, works when ascending string groups and drop down a string to go up to the next group of strings. Just messing around with that, I have figured out that I can keep the index finger "anchored" even if the fret location changes. The awkward stretch becomes less awkward when you "catch" up and close the interval.
