    Great vid again Alistair, would love to come back over one day. We run 1700 ewes on a farm in the uk very much based on NZ genetics. Maybe one day when we can find some cover for the farm we’ll rent your hill house and come over and help you guys out with some free labour for a few weeks, would be epic 😁 one day maybe ay, one day 👍🏻👍🏻

      To be honest it’s the wettest winter I’ve ever been though……been bloody awful and doesn’t seem like it’s gunna quit anytime soon! Seems like it’s come round to us after it gave you guys a hammering last winter 😰

    I like the comment about "are the dogs expensive"? Check out the swearing jar!

    Gidday Alastair
    Did you realise that when you showed Genna the pilock insulator, it looked like you didn't actually put the wire back in behind the pin? It is just held by the plastic loop holding the pin! You might want to check it when you hang the gate to save a fence short when the loop breaks.

    That water scheme has really worked out well for improving your grazing availability.

      It sure has, the cows and calves are looking amazing this year due to better water.

    as an older farmer let me give you some advice, use the racewell you own to do the sheep work, much easier on the body at end of day

    can you do a vlog on the cross breed sheep you are using/breeding and why - I would be interested and I think the international sheep farmers would as well

    This year you are not breeding ewe lambs. Will that mean that you will have a smaller number of sheep lambing or have you bought extra breeding age ewes . Great video as usual

      Roughly the same number of ewes just didnt sell any cull for age ewes this year.

    Hey can you tell something about the dogs How do they know what to do Train you the dogs yourself Are the dogs expensive

    • @gennabird107
      @gennabird107 8 місяців тому +1

      It's a bit of both- if you buy dogs of the right breed and they show traits of being good with livestock you can train them yourself. However it takes a lot of time and commitment! Pre-trained dogs are very expensive but I would say they're probably worth every cent. They know what to do from commands and whistles and learning from the other (more experienced) dogs, not to say they always do what they're meant to!

    whens a good time to put ram in

    • @kiwifarmernz
      @kiwifarmernz  8 місяців тому

      It all depends on when you have feed in the spring or you want to sell lambs, then work backwards.

    Great video . . . one complaint . . . I am starting a petition requesting that New Zealand-ers and Australians be not allowed to use the word "winter" 😊 because I have 2 1/2 meter snow banks on each side of my driveway. Cheers.
