The saturn is still one of my favorite consoles ever. I never grew up in the 90's as I was born in 98'. But I have recently gave the saturn a chance and the games are fantastic.
_"I never grew up in the 90's as I was born in 98"_ Well Hayden that says it all. The Saturn was discontinued only two years later and there are good reasons for that. You have to experience the actual good games out there if you're going to make a legit informed statement. You have literally thousands of other games from other consoles that were infinitely better than the Saturn.
Dual CPU, dual GPU. It was an hell of a console, and almost doubled the difficult for programmers and developers, initially. At least in US/EU, as in Japan it got thousand of games, and most of the best are for the J version. I got one, it's amazing.
When my friend got Symphony of the night and I played it I stuck with Sony. The lag time sucked and we still talk about it to this day. I gave Sega another chance with the Dreamcast. What a great console. I wish the Dreamcast had a longer life on the market.
Its my favorite version of the game. It's not really lag, more like slowdown, and in most areas it's manageable but places like the upside-down garden, are literally unplayable without patching the game to run with the 4mb ram cartridge
@@hayden7525 yes. I also prefer the Saturn version of castlevania sotn. Much better controller and way more content. Only some slowdown in outdoor areas.
The Saturn was a 2D power house, but was relatively weak on 3D titles. However, this was the start of 3D console gaming, so all consoles at this time were relatively limited till the next generation.
Yes. Yes it was. Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes and the RPGs in there confirm it. The controller is one of the best ever made too. It was one hell of a console. You just had to go overseas to really exploit all of its potential.
If you think about it, no black was actually an exception and geared to the western market, while in Japan all early sega systems derived from the sg1000 where white until the redesign of the mark 3 as the Master System so it wasn't unusual after all. Also, if you put the japanese white Saturn Model 2 beside the Dreamcast, the design changes are also much more fluent.
Love the video, I always thought that the build quality of the Saturn MK1 controller were far better than the MK2 controller. RPGs on the Saturn are amazing and I think its the definite console for fighters of that generation.
What you say is the story in US and UK but in Japan it was King with over 1000 games and very well supported. A shame a lot of those games didn’t come here. Like Bulk Slash or Dragon Force 2 or Suikoden or Castlevania SOTN.
I think when I seen the differences in Resident Evil 1, I went with the PlayStation first. I ended up getting the Saturn a little later exclusively for the Capcom games. I wanted to love my Saturn because I loved Sega but Sony was clicking on all cylinders.
Never owned a Saturn, but I do think like you said it should have been backwards compatible with Genesis that might have helped. I went full in on PS1 myself which I think was a good decision due to limited funds but I do feel I missed out some. As of late I tried some emulation but the emulation I have tried sucks, I hear its a problem overall with Saturn emulation. A Saturn mini would be a def. buy from me, as would a Dreamcast actually.
I was liking your comment until you said you _"missed out some"_ even after going full in with the PS1. Anyone who was born after 1989 were too young to grasp and comprehend the ground-breaking, award-winning games that released for the PS1. You have to experience it when you were at least a teenager or of mature age to truly experience the PlayStation and appreciate what it accomplished then. Think about why all of these games that released for the PS1 are still being remade and continued on today on the PS5 and will continue for the ages. Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Twisted Metal, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Ridge Racer, etc. etc. These titles and numerous others continue to carry into modern consoles because they were the best games released on the best console, not the console that died 25 years ago. Considering the PS1 lived on 6 more years beyond the Saturn before it went discontinued, there is no thinking about it. You 100% already had the best console in your possession back then, and you should show more knowledge and less ignorance on that subject.
You look familiar... didn't you do a video 12 years ago where you were saying you're sorry for saying the Saturn sucked? And you were trying to bring flowers to an actual Saturn console and asking it for forgiveness on bended knee. And it yanked the controller away from your hand as you tried to cozy up to it. Bizarre video, that was...

The Saturn was, is and forever be good

Ya it was short lived but I liked it.
I use the Nights controller on my Saturn, love it

Just picked up a “This is Cool” Japanese model, along with my plain, black US model. The black US model kinda reminds me of a updated model 1 Sega CD

The saturn was a great system, and still is today.
It's two flaws were its complicated architecture and Sega's unwillingness to work with 3rd party developers to teach them said architecture.
Daytona USA on Saturn is and was awesome.
Am2 Emulator for Arcade emulation for Segas Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Die Hard Arcade, etc.
It's not the same as a real Sega stand up arcade.

I love the Sega Saturn
Nice video!
it was so f.. ing expensive.. i croatia back then..in 1996 was average paycheck around 200 euros... and saturn cost almost 600 !!!!

Best system ever.
Most ignorant comment ever.
