I have an 18v Dewalt set that I purchased in the early 2000's (yes, I'm old!). All of them were made in the USA (yes, with global materials). They still work, even the recip saw my son managed to drop and break the case (hose clamps aren't just for hoses anymore!). Have had to continuously replace batteries, but all of the tools still work just fine.
Yes sir! I still have my Dewalt hammer drills from 2005 & 2007 as well as the 24 volt Dewalt reciprocating saw and hammer drill and they all work great, except the batteries which was from them sitting idle for years.
My dad still has his 18v nicad drill and impact driver from the same era. Still uses them today. He did get the adapter to use the new dewalt batteries on it which gave the tools a bit of juice. He's had to replace the motor, the chuck, trigger, and a couple other things but when you talking a 20 year tool its still amazing.
I was buying a 2 pack of the 18v on Black Friday every year just to keep things going...Get that 18 to 20v adaptor and keep it going untill you have to replace and then just get the 20v of the same tool then. Brushless for the Win!
Everyone I see uses DeWalt, then Milwaukee. I chose Makita so no one would steal my batteries
Rarely online. Primarily, Harbor Freight, 100% Hercules 💯👌
1000% satisfied!
I think it’s Generac, the generator manufacturer. Not generic
It definitely says Generac but they don't even make power tools. I've read through the source material and the only possible explanation is that it's supposed to say Generic.
Wouldn't the generic tools fall under "other"
Gererac makes generators with good enough design they don't need to be inverter output...
Gen X.
Mostly DeWalt.
2 Milwaukee.
Outdoor is mostly Ego.
For me I'm multi tool brand, however 95% are Dewalt and I can't say anything bad about my experiences. I have 40+ Dewalt tools, plus Makita, Ridgid, Skill, Craftsman, Stihl, and more. I'm a retired baby boomer, who organized a men's group to help out members in our church congregation and our community. We also build beds and setup them up for kids without. This keeps me busy and I enjoy working with my hands and tools help make my life enjoyable.
I am using Milwaukee in the shop daily and have had great results with it, putting them thru a lot of use every day. A couple of my M18 batteries have cracked cases, dropping them isn't good. They are also a little pricey, but coming from the tool trucks to them makes them feel cheap to me price wise. I think what ever tool someone has easy warranty access to is a good option. Batteries will be the most common need for any brand, they seem to deteriorate before the tools, especially if they sit and aren't used much.
Thanks for another informative video.
I buy all my tools online. Direct tools is my favorite
I run Flex, Kobalt and Makita cordless power tools as a millennial. Flex’s lifetime warranty and great deals online have pulled me into that brand. I’d probably would have all Makita but they don’t have good deals! Kobalt is an affordable and underrated tool line, I plan to buy more of their tools when release/ update the line.
I'm with you on Makita. I went with their system because it's what my Dad used growing up. $200 for a 4ah battery, come on man.
Grew up with Craftsman and the "lifetime" and "bring it back into the store for a replacement" reputation. Was nice to go into Sears and look and feel and in some cases, dream of owning certain tools. Nowadays, no more Sears. No more of the tried and true Craftsman quality. Today's "sears" is Harbor Freight for a bunch of us. That's happened VERY RECENTLY with the commitment they've made to make great products and STAND behind them. US General, Hercules, Icon, Predator, Earthquake, Fortress, Badland, Titanium, and even Bauer have been game changers in the past few years. They're building stores right and left now. So, for me, HF is an easy choice. Available locally, and nationwide. Shine on
Just bought inter Bauer this week with the cordless leaf blower, 2000 Lumen worklight, cordless tire inflator, along with the dual battery charger w/ dual USB ports & a 1.5 and 5Ah batteries. Love each tool to death and have a list of items to add. Bought into Icon ratchet wrenches last month, stuff is crazy good!
@@briangiven7399 All of those are outstanding tools, especially for the money you spent. I'm happy for you.
I have both DeWalt & Ryobi. I get primary DeWalt unless it's something I don't use often. All my saws, drills, & impacts are DeWalt, but I also have a fan, spot light, nail gun, hot glue, tire inflator, & edger in Ryobi.
Home owner/weekend warrior here. I have four battery systems, Ryobi, Ridgid, Makita, and m12. I will only buy more Makita if they are on sale. I won't mind purchasing refurbished, used, or brand new because of a glitch or bogo sale. I'd like to add Metabo and Flex to my collection as well 😅
For my heavier use tools, Milwaukee. But for the ones that I will only use once in a while or for a specific function, I've started using Ryobi. EGO for lawn. I hate having three sets of batteries (four if you count M12 and some M18), but it makes sense when some tools are so much cheaper in other lines and they do a good enough job for when you need it.
I have Makita power tools as my main platform, and Metabo as my secondary tools such as cordless finish nailers.
Gex X , Dewalt, Original purchase in store, Lowes. After establishing my platform and several batteries, I'm comfortable ordering from Amazon. Of my last 4 Dewalt items, it's been 2 and 2.
I mostly buy Makita online because I have the batteries. Otherwise, the closest Harbor Freight is only about 10 minutes away and as my buddy would say, "Good enough for who it's for." (I've had little trouble with most of the Harbor Freight tools I've purchased. There are some clunkers in there but mostly it works just fine.)
I wish I didn't have any college. Trade school, yes. College just buy the books or maybe ones four years old and study them. Colleges and University have real issues and are mostly a waste.
For tools that I am going to use frequently I will typically buy Makita, but tools that I will only use a few times a year I may purchase the Bauer or Hercules at Harbor Freight. Hard to beat their prices.
I have some Milwaukee and dewalt but jumped on the Hercules wagon a couple months ago and they’ve been great
So I am 95% Milwaulkee with a little Makita on the side.
I'm 38 and find the M12 and Packout systems are great, plus my local tool store, is a main Milwaulkee dealer and gives me amazing support.
Gen X
Dewalt 20v/12v Drills, Impacts, Circ, Multi, 12" Sliding Miter, Shop tools etc.
The 18 to 20v adapter bridged me from the fleet of 18v Dewalt until I upgraded to 20v for all the previous 18v versions. The DC901big Bertha impmact kicks the crap out of the old 18v version!
Ryobi 18v for the Lifestyle products that live in the RV- Fans, Misters, Drill for the Scissor Jack, etc.
I’ve collected a little of everything. Dewalt Milwaukee Makita Bosch and yes some Ryobi. I try to get the best tool that I need irrelevant of the brand. Interesting video. Thanks
Sounds like a wise plan of a wise Man! 😊
I have Makita power tools as my main platform and a Milwaukee M12 drill and driver for light duty tasks. Only DeWalt tool is the cordless air compressor as it was the only real option when it came out. Purchased original Festool track saw and vacuum, what a game changer that was.
I have Ryobi nailer and kobalt mostly. Ego for outdoor stuff. Lowe’s on the weekend will often take display models and toss them on the clearance cart I picked up the sds drill and a planer for better than 50% off this way. Check your stores on the weekend for deals any time of the year
I have 18-volt Ryobi. Been using them since they came out with a 12 volt drill that was a gift. I have only purchased the big Ryobi impact on Amazon due to price.
The Depot used to be my go-to place, and Ryobi is still my favorite brand. The Harbor has gone from being my “Go with my buddy on a Saturday morning and buy some cheap tools” to my favorite store, and I’ve gotten lightly into the Bauer line. The stark reality is that I pretty much have everything I need/have a use for at this point, so it’s mostly a replace-as-it-breaks-or-wears-out status now.
If I know I want a specific power tool, I buy online, usually from Acme. All my impulse buys were in a store.
2 brands. Dewalt and ryobi for battery. Mix of corded but mostly makita. Primarily a wood worker. Buy online.
Been Dewalt for close to 20 years. Tried Milwaukee with the gen 2 impact driver and even set the charger up in my van. I run a inverter and permanently mount my chargers so I was all in. I hated it and it still looks basically new. So I've stayed with team yellow but will admit Red makes some nice tools just rather have the same in my main platform. I have a Milwaukee corded Sawzall and that is the best hands down. I think at this point its what you like fits your budget and workload. My friend has Kobalt stuff and its good stuff too. Since I'm hard on stuff in a professional environment I wouldn't buy the starter tools from anybody but the top tier stuff sure it's all close. I wear out a XR impact driver every 2 years reciprocating saw every 3 and I've snapped 2- 1/2" drills in half last one lasted close to 3 years. Plastic right above the trigger is a definite weak point on these if you do alot of core drilling. I've always felt like I've got my money's worth out of a tool from Dewalt and never needed to warranty one yet
dewalt 20v for my service truck, because my first power tools were mac and wanted to stick to 1 battery line. but use m12 in the garage at home because it doesnt seen as heavy use and is a lot smaller/lighter for working on car projects
I buy probably in store about 60% to 40% online. I have Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Ridgid, Ryobi tools
I’m heavily invested in a brand seldom mentioned, Metabo. I have corded and cordless and have been very happy with their products. The chuck on my plunge router is a little wonky but everything else has been good. They are getting harder to find though since most of the Lowe’s stores stopped carrying the line.
I have dewalt miter saw. Half of my cordless is milwaukee. The other half is Flex. I have a ridgid sub compacr drill for around the house.
Milwaukee quality has fallen off. I've been using Milwaukee cordless going back to the NiCad days. Moving to Flex as their line fills out and my Milwaukeed fail.
Ohio Power Tools has some great deals on Flex right now. I've purchased my Fkex in store at Lowe's and online. Wherever the deals are.
Dewalt has never really been on my radar for cordless. Their warrenty has always pushed me to Milwaukee. Their miter saws are hard to beat for durability. I am considering the new Flex cordless miter saw. I've never had a cordless miter saw. It's $100 off right now at Ohio Power Tools.
I have all Hart bought most 3 years ago when I retired kinda wish I had waited a year they opened a Harbor Freight a year later near me
I buy online all the time from Amazon or Home Depot. I own Milwaukee for working on my cars due to the m12 line and dewalt for house hold.
I do use the 12v line of Milwaukee because I am getting older and they are light but I also use the 18v line from Ryobi. My corded tools though are King Canada because those are cheap enough to purchase but decent quality when using them.
GenX here. Primary brand is Ryobi, and have had a collection of Sears Champions for my ratchets. Started gathering tools in 97 when I moved out and so glad I chose Ryobi. All but maybe 2 drills have made it from back then. I'll buy tools on line and save money, or go get them in stores on sale. Price getting a good deal is key.
All Ryobi 18v with lawn / garden and building/ wood working tools, a few Milwaukee 18 a ( Drill, Driver, Vac ,Light and 12 v Radio) Skil table saw ( was a no brainier with Rack and Pinon fence and 300 bucks),12" Ridged Miter saw.( free rolling stand cuz its to heavy to move alone)
L&M fleet Supply is hands down my favorite farm store to buy tools from, they sell full lime professional grade outdoor power equipment from Stihl, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet/MTD, Ariens/Gravely, as well as honda and generac generators great selection of DeWalt and Milwaukee power tools and OPE, a full complement of your general hand tools as well Tekton. On top of all that they have a great gun counter/ammo selection, great work wear selection, home goods, hardware, ag/equestrian, and everything you expect from a farm store but better than any fleet farm, rural king, big R, Bucheites, and especially any tractor supply. Only downside is that its a family owned chain that just serves the Northwoods around lake Superior and their Internet store is in need of a major update because it doesn't do justice to the in store selection.
Brand Makita for 18volt amd Milwaukee for 12volt. I buy strictly online. I can’t remember the last time I purchased in store. No college.
I was going to say Ryobi.
I have a ton of Ryobi tools and love them.
Their new Lithium batteries are amazing.
Weirdly enough I go to the store to physically examine them then purchase them online.
Dewalt guy, with SKIL being my secondary brand due to price and performance. All Ryobi for lawn equipment.
Since you asked:
I prefer in store, but some tools aren't available in stores, so I'll go online for those. My brands are:
18V: DeWalt
12V: Milwaukee
Corded: no brand is my favorite. I go based on what is best for the need.
My 12V line used to be Bosch. I still have several, but Milwaukee has a more diverse lineup, so I'm converting over. But Bosch is awesome and I don't regret a single tool purchase from them.
I used to have black and decker when that was all I could afford. I went to Dewalt for frequent tools but still have some black and decker. My black and decker matrix set is 12 years old and still works great but the dewalt is so much lighter and just feels great in the hand.
Those with black and decker should check Porter cable because the battery systems are really the same. You just have to learn where to trim plastic and be ok with not being able to return that tool.
I live in Australia; I buy my tools in shop. My brand of tool is Makita. I don't own any other branded power tools. Cheers.
i mainly have dewalt, i also have craftsman. i use an x-adapter to use my dewalt batteries on my craftsman , Craftsman has tools that dewalt doesn't have like lopper saw, hand held inflator
Hercules, I mainly shop at Harbor Fright its the new Sears for me they have anything you want. I guess about all the power tools are made in China just to different specs. I've been well satisfied with the Hercules brand. I have several corded tools from over the years, Craftsman and Black, Decker and even Chicago Electric that I've had for over 15 years they all get the job done.
I stated above, I have Milwaukee, but I’m getting out as quick as possible. I have a lot of Ryobi, but that will be staying at home. I am an electrician by trade, and I will be using Hercules as much as possible, probably have a couple of Bauer tools that haven’t made it to Hercules yet.
I'm way more likely to buy in store. I originally started with Milwaukee M12 but quickly realized I didn't use tools enough to warrant that. Got a Craftsman V20 tool as a gift so that's primarily what I buy now.
Also M12 just doesn't have as good of a variety of tools.
I but mostly Ryobi for home use and Milwaukee for work and my employer buys Dewalt for the Electrician and Milwaukee for the Millwright
1. Makita have almost ever 18v tool.
2. Some Ryobi -pex crimper, pvc cutter, cordless sander.
3. Bench top tools are all either WEN or Harbor freight brands corded only.
Menards has the best value on tool boxes. Masterforce made by montezuma, can get a 41" top & bottom w 12 outlet power strip in top chest, power drawer and 6 outlet power strip in bottom chest and 24" deep for 1100 before rebate.
Gen X and i am solid in the line that has moved into redheaded stepchild status with TTI. 18v Ridgid. I've just bought into a few 12v Hercules but haven't gotten them out of the box yet.
If i were to hit the do-over switch I'd go all in on Milwaukee.
All Makita. All online too. The stores dont carry the heavier tools like 36v that i like. I want to try their 40v soon.
Same, I'm a *huge* fan of the XGT (40V) line, and have bought the ones I own all online. I've never seen them in a store until just this past weekend, Home Depot had a small display of the XGT stuff. Hopefully they expand that line more.
Makita, initially in store but then online due to limited in store selection. I initially purchased into Fuel 12v from very reputable online sellers, but not one of the (5) chargers would work.
Ryobi cordless is the way to go if you are not a full time pro. I have Ryobi tools from 2010 and the batteries work in all my tools. I can buy 3 tools compared to one dewalt. I work on average 3 days a week.
My main cordless tools are Dewalt followed closely by Milwaukee M12. I have a dusting of Hercules and Porter Cable. I prefer instore but online if I know exactly what I'm buying.
In my Town, in the Metro-Boston area, the land is all built up so the only 'new' construction is on tear-downs, and the rest is renovation. As I drive around I watch what the pro's are using, and its almost always Dewalt. I use Dewalt almost exclusively myself with the exception of several Ryobi tools bought, based on price, for infrequent applications.
I own almost every SKIL 12v tool but when I need more power it was Makita and is now Hercules. I also own select "best of breed" tools -- Bosch Bulldog, EGO snowblower, the Ryobi nailers, or my 40-year-old Sawzall.
I am tempted to take up being Mr Menards. I'm always running there for something. And I can see the Lowes leaving if they go bankrupt. Leaving us Menards and ACE + Farm and Home. We have to drive about an hour to find a Home Depot.
Todd of Project Farm goes to Menards and buys some.of their items to test.
I have quite a few Dewalt, a lot of Bauer and Hercules. The prices on Dewalt have gotten a bit out of hand and their batteries are insane. It's the main reason I moved to Bauer and Hercules.
I’m happy with my Hercules so far
@KyleRS877 Me too. Just need them to grow the line. Only complaint I have i their multi-tool needs some updating. I should not have to take parts off to swap blades. Until they fix it, I will stick with my Dewalt.
I buy wherever I can the best deal. I own about 50-50 Dewalt/Milwaukee and some Flex. For outdoor I use Stihl.
Bauer baby! Most of my purchases are in store. Right now my only brand is Bauer I'm a home gamer. If a certain item wears out or breaks I'll know that I need to step up to a Milwaukee or Dewalt.
DIY hobbyest. Home Depot and Lowes mostly. Harbor Freight some. Have mostly Ryobi and Kobalt with some Dewalt. Originally loved Makita, but they got too expensive.
Metabo HPT (Hitachi) and Kobalt. Can’t beat the quality for the price.
Soon ill have to decide on a brand as im becoming a plumber. Not sure what brand. But it will be whatever offer the best value
Bosh 18 volt lithium (many going on 10+ years commercial use) Good stuff! Have some Dewalt but they ain't as good.
Mostly Milwaukee M18/M12 and Dewalt. 99% is purchased at Home Depot, just about everything online, some purchased in store. I do hack alot of Milwaukee deals. Only purchase batteries from a reputable place that can actually sell by the manufacturer. I usually reach for my M12 fuel 1st, if that doesn't get it done. M18 then my corded Dewalt tools.
I don't have a favorite brand but base my tool selection on reviews. Yes, I'm on many different battery platforms but I don't want to base my tool selections on brand loyalty or platform.
I’d like to see the marketing budgets 😅
Milwaukee and Craftsmen purchased online.
I am a baby boomer and buy Milwaukee but give them to my son so he can work on my car for free😅
I prefer to buy in store because I’m concerned about fakes being sold online. That said I will buy online if I can’t find it in the store. If I do buy online, I check to make sure they are an authorized retailer. Amazon, for example, is not a Milwaukee authorized retailer.
Dewalt is the best tools I own.
I prefer to buy power tools in store. I only buy online if I just cannot get it local. Nearly all of my battery powered tools are Dewalt. I bought my first Dewalt 20V drill 10 years ago to work on my youngest son's Eagle Scout project. I stuck with Dewalt. I do have a Kobalt pole saw and leaf blower. They will be thrown in the garbage the next time the batteries die (which they do once a year). My wife has a Craftsman weedeater and a Craftsman hedge trimmer. These may be replaced with Dewalt eventually. If Craftsman keeps supporting the battery, we may stick with them. I bought the Dewalt drill because I could no longer get the battery for my Craftsman drill. They were notorious for changing battery shape/size every few years. 10 years later and I can still use and buy the same Dewalt batteries.
I'm a Menards guy. Bosch blue all the way 💙
Any idea where this data comes from? I get quantities sold, avg price, location, etc, but how do they know age, homeowner status, and average income?
Based on deals, On-line seems to have better prices at least for what I buy. I like to buy from Ohio power tool and Flex is the brand.
That's surprising. Thought Ryobi, Craftsman, etc were best sellers.
I'm rocking bosch 12v, MKE 18 & 12v and Worx.
I buy my tools at home depot because I have to try the tool out when I get into my truck in the parking lot because I'm still a kid and don't know it
I own 12v Milwaukee and Porter Cable (gasp!). Gen X
I started buying Yellow power tools in 1997 and still have ALL of them in working order (except one that I just sold, in working order). No reason to go looking for features or lower price…unless you need a very specific power tool for something.
Generac isn't a no-name brand.
They make generators.
All I care about is Dewalt, I love yellow. LOL. I do have some Ridgid stuff too, they make very good stuff. Even Craftsman isn't too bad either. I don't really like Milwaukee to be honest. I used to love Makita but I feel like they were abandoned over the years.
Black and yellow. Black and yellow.
Imo Milwaukee makes the best tools.
I have noticed that commercial and residential trades dewalt has a big foothold. I believe it's because the salesman are good to trade companies and prices and markets they very efficiently.
I'm not going to start buying dewalt buy. I can't deny their presence in the trades is easily the grestest.
Changing over to Bauer from an odd collection of obsolete battery tech. Not a pro anymore, it's good enough for my needs. My air tools are worn out, and quite frankly the battery stuff has relegated the compressor to inflating tires and high pressure dusting...
Dewalt 20v max and Bosch 12v max…one hart leaf blower. Corded tools of several different brands.
My dads got a nice Dewalt set but im all makita. Harbor freight for the odd stuff. I buy my stuff online after a bunch of research. My dad mostly if not all in store. I love my brand except for the price he loves his brand. Im 37 he 62. Might have gotten milwaukee but have bad experiences with milwaukee shop tools( might not be fair cause those things get abused) plus my buddy got all his milwaukee stuff stolen ( its a popular brand)
Gen X here. Started with Ryobi about 5 years ago to fix things around the house. Great value. After 2-3 years decided to upgrade with Dewalt. Not much more expensive when on sale (hacks) but love the feel.
Splurging? Yes!
Also got 12v Bosch drill and driver that I love. Used mostly for cabinet building and other.
I buy anywhere theres a sale and gives a military discount on top of that😁
I use Dewalt. Not a professional. Broad product line using one battery platform. I will shop online but usually buy in store - Home Depot and Ace Hardware.
I'm thinking Makita is big, but I know it's just here in the SF bay area.
Milwaukee m 12 line and Flex 24 volt
I have no brand loyalty. I am locked into some brands due to battery/price. Harbor Freight mostly these days.
I've been using Dewalt for years. It's the platform I started with and it's to expensive to switch platforms. Beside I've always had good service from Dewalt.
Our tool journey…
Craftsman 1980
DeWalt 2000
Milwaukee 2020
Bauer 2022
I use Dewalt, Hercules, Skil, and Makita. I have no problems with any of them.
I'm a Dewalt fan boy. I don't have everything they make, but what I don't have is a shorter list... Gen X.
Hows come I hit thumbs up and the counter stayed at 0?
UA-cam... who knows with them.
You’re a bot 😂
You tube does love to censor controversial topics but I would never consider the den of tools to be controversial...
@@waterbottle4782 Oh I spent about three years on their naughty list for talking about long distance paper punchers too much in our live streams.
You can go wrong with porter cable cordless
