- ABB is the frontrunner in electric power and propulsion. Our Azipod® propulsion system, the first electric azimuthing podded propulsion introduced to the market, is an example of technology with such clear advantages that it has established an industry standard
Thats a WOW.. great job for ABB Azipod, electric power is and always be the way of the future:)
yes, ABB Azipod! Finland has always been leading when it comes to construct icebreakers.
Commenting in late 2020. Rad music
azipod and aquamaster both are great propulsoin systems hope that more ships could have them..
Espetacular, Magnífico, mas essa semana o Azipod das Barcas S/A pode ter sido o vilão no acidente no Rio de Janeiro.
De qualquer forma uma mudança absurda no conceito!
Great stuff ABB.
are all new cruise ships now are using the azipod propulsion?
If I had ships, I would definetly buy AZIPODS for them.
Might be she was on sea/ice trial and was still owned by Helsinki shipyard. I'm pretty sure the home port for her nowadays is Murmansk.
I'm sold. I'll take 2 please. BTW my margarita is a little low, can you turn the yacht stern to and chop up some fresh ice, I'm a bit parched and you know how I get when Daddy doesn't get what he wants!
Wow, that looks (and sounds) good. But I fear that azipods are quite expensive compared to the usual system of propellers and ruthers. That should be the reason why not every company uses azipods on ther new ships. But we can wait for it: the next decennia that is probably going to change...
@ 2:04 port of registry is helsinki nut ship's name is in cyrillic?
Vos vidéo existe elle en français ?
@posro1988 Maybe registering in Helsinki is cheaper, do you know how many ships are registered at Panama or Monrovia (Liberia) even being sailed by european companies?
@Renatodonadio yes I know, but should't names be written in latin alphabet if registered in finland, nyk has their ship names written in english with japanese characters below that
finland?? i live in there
@Theriomalstrom And everything else on board as well LOL!
@helstontvx do not recall saying it was special? however it was 'special' in the fit out installation and rectification and the size of installation two of the largest DC motors ever built GEC/ALstom...my Father commissioned it. bit of trivia, on its trial it lost a bearing that was delivered via a Nimrod.
Please lets not get all bitchy we are commenting because we enjoy engineering right?
LOL at the free fall lifeboat.
did you guys know that Azipod method is invented in Finland :)
Diesel electric..QE2 had diesel electric drive DC motors no less...natural development of the technology
ABB Azipod
no tug boat required.... in the future... no pilot required aha
@vertabine RAKIA CONNECTING PEOPLE--GREET.FROM CROATIA!
AZIPOD soon they will connect to IPOD..
too bad they are a maintenance nightmare. Thrust bearings and electric motor issues much more often than promised
Maintenance nightmares??? Electric motors have one moving part... Pretty straight forward
You must think these motors are like the one in your kid's tub toy. When the manufacturers promise x number of hours service life and they don't get nearly what was designed and the only way to fix the issue is to find a dry dock of the proper size somewhere in the world with a opening in the schedule to haul the vessel for a month... yeah... it's real straight forward and ungodly expensive both in direct cost as well as lost business.
+Aaron Barker The ABB Azipods have worked quite reliably. There is another manufacturer as well.
