@@Paul_KE9BHN Will do ! my QCX mini kit will arrive on monday and my ham license test is in 2 weeks. After that I'll dive inti CW like there is no tomorrow :)
Thanks Paul, it was a beautiful spot for sure! We love how CW POTA has taken us to some pretty amazing places we might not have ever explored! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you! It really was a beautiful spot to activate and we are glad to have each other as sniper spotters ... HiHi. It's like having a back up in case your brain shuts off mid call-sign 🤣 73, Becky es Mike
First of all, Thank you for activating Airwave Commandos!!! You guys pick a wonderful spot to do CW. What a serene & wonderful view to watch a sun set. It’s been over 3 decades since I’ve done CW from the military. Thank you for the QSO. Giovanni KF4ESG “Keep riding the wavelengths “
Hey Julia!!! Fun to get you in the logs again as always! Also, we email contacts after activations and get a bounce back from your QRZ email. Just letting you know😊 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you Teri ! Luis has hunted us a few times and we are always amazed when we hear him, but I'm not sure it's has been QRP-QRP before! 😮 73, Becky es Mike
Great video, Michael and Becky! Your enthusiasm for CW is inspiring, and thanks to you, I’m studying it myself. I hope to catch you on the air one day! 73!
Yay!! Thank you so much for letting us know. We absolutely love to hear how what we share gets more people on the air with CW. It's a lot of fun and when you can, decode short video : CW Practice message #3. It's very applicable for you🤣 ! 73, Becky es Mike
Thanks for the contact. A hint for CW. You kept calling my "OH" in my callsign as a "Zero." Remember in U.S. callsigns there is only one numeric. In my instance the 7. :) Also you and Mike have inspired my wife to relearn her CW so she can be an active participant in my POTA outings. She normally goes along, helps me set up, helps me tear down, greet people who walk up wondering what we are doing, and either reads or crochets the rest of the time. She is a coded General from when we had to learn code but has never used it. So thank you very much for inspiring her. Last comment. I teach CW through a Beginners Class through the CW Academy. I now refer my students to your channel. It is good for them to see it is fun to work POTA at reasonable speeds. You do not have to work 30 wpm contests to have fun. And I point out how much fun you have when you make mistakes but do not get flustered. You just laugh and continue. I hope to put you in the log many more times. Seven three de Kevin/NB7O
Kevin, that is wonderful to hear about your wife getting back into CW with you. We really enjoy the whole process together and being able to help each other. And oops, you're absolutely correct. I wrote down the letter "O" but for some reason when I see it I say "zero" ... I even sent the letter correctly ... 😕 Thank you for noticing, I need to pay more attention to that for sure. We also really appreciate you sharing our experiences with your class and that is why we started to share our CW journey. We just have fun and at the end of the day we learn from our mistakes and get better each time! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you for posting this. Great to hear what I sound like from your end. I was running 50W into an EFHW up in the trees. Your fist was excellent by the way.
Thank you David and appreciate the compliment. I really enjoy using the straight key. It keeps me relaxed and I make a lot less mistakes 🤣 73, Becky es Mike
Yeah, that was the first "live" attempted use. It worked fine when testing at home. Definitely back to the testing board, we were worried it was going to fly out into the river and be gone! 🤣🤣 73, Becky es Mike
I finished my 20m qcx mini this past weekend and did my first cw pota activation with it on monday. Its a great little radio only thing I kind of wish I bought with it was the agc board because when you have the volume up higher for a weaker station a really strong station may come back at you next and its super loud
Congratulations on the successful build and activating with it 👏 And yes, 💯%, we yank our headphones out of our ears sometimes after a quiet station come before a really loud one 🤣 Although not shown in my build video I did add the AGC (prebuilt) board to the 40m QCX mini. It really does help and hopefully we will activate with it soon! 73, Becky es Mike
@@HamRadioDuo I have a DJI Mini II and we've had a lot of fun with it, but we are finding more and more places that prohibit drones. A lot of state and national parks don't allow them.
Thank you, it was a beautiful spot and amazing sunset! Thankfully it was a little chilly for mosquitoes, but the little gnats were getting us 🤣🪰 And yes, we thought our new toy was going to end up in the river 😅 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you so much and glad it helps you practice. Great job on trying to head copy. We are still on our CW journey and working on ICR and head copying! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you for pointing that out! The Trail of Tears runs several places right around here so we definitely need to check into all of the different spots where we could add that to the park list. 73, Becky es Mike
Absolutely, we can share our understanding. RBN stands for reverse beacon network, and simply means that the reverse beacon network heard you and re-spotted you. On the POTA website, it shows the most recent spot. You can also click on the spot history icon to sees the list of all of the spots. Anyone who hears you can click "RE-SPOT" to let you know they heard you and leave a comment. The reverse beacon network is a network of stations "listening" for CW stations and if it hears your call sign it will automatically re-spot you. Anytime you see a message like that, it means that one of those stations heard you and re-spotted you. One cool thing is that if you don't have network where you are activating, you can let the RBN spot you. For that to work, you need to have scheduled your activation on the POTA website so that it knows your park number. Then, when RBN spots you, it will work. If you already spotted yourself or someone else did, it is just helpful to keep the time when you were last heard up to date so that others can tell you are still activating. 73 Mike N4FFF es Becky N4BKY
