    I've had a 2500 for a a year and later on bought a 500 just for portability and actually enjoyed working on the 500 more than the 2500! everything was just a lot more simplified and focused on the samples. only downside for the 500 is the fact it only has 12 pads. i feel like for a lot of chopping stuff having 16 makes things a lot easier for chopping full bars. eventually i sold both last year. moved away from MPC for a while but now i bought a MPC one (should arrive today) gonna be my first time exploring the modern MPC workflow. i used to hate on it but that was just me being dumb and elitist. although i still think i might pick up another 500... they're so incredibly cheap! i feel like they are quite underrated

    I didn't realise the MPC 500 was this powerful, I thought it was much more basic. It even has effects! It's a shame they didn't use a larger sceen, if it could even show as much info as the 2000 it would make for a much nicer experience.

      @@mpchead because the screen is small and the buttons are per function I actually found the 500 easier to use than the 2000XL. I learned the MPC workflow on the 500 though so I suppose I'm biased to it that way. Using the cursor for the 2000XL on one page seems slower than pressing a button for the page I want then only having two lines to scroll on. That's just my personal experience though.

    Fantastic vid, one of the best MPChead channels on here for that boom bap sweetness.
    Got a little question tryin to see what’s up if you can help me a bit - so I’ve always been a SP user myself when it comes to makin beats and recently picked up a 500 to get into the MPC mode of doin things. I think I had a misunderstanding bout the sample time - I picked up a CF card thinking it would increase sample time but looks like I’m stuck with only like a minute no matter what size card I use, is that a RAM issue? Looks like you got 12 minutes on yours, that has nothing to do with the card right? The card doesn’t increase sample time?

    • @mpchead
      @mpchead  2 роки тому

      Yeah, the size on the mpcs comes from the ram installed. You need to increase the ram.

    The resample feature is cool but you can also assign the same sample instead of re-recording it and then alter it to how you want as well. I sometimes reassign samples to pads on B and then put the low pass filter on it at different stages on different pads. It's a different workaround and it saves sample time if you haven't upgraded to the 128mb RAM.

    • @mpchead
      @mpchead  4 роки тому +4

      Hi Luke, the point of resampling was to release the FX slot that was being used by the sample, maybe it wasn't clear in the video sorry. Yeah reassign samples is always a good way to go.

      @ when you have no other choice it actually becomes very easy to chop on those machines. Chopping by ear means you listen to where the start and stop points are and cue to the start point and cut at the finish. If you use to do it with cassettes as a kid then it's literally child's play. Auto chop is great if you know how to use it so it chops exactly where you want it but chopping by ear can be faster if you listen and know what you want to take and just go in and take it. Playing a loop in live instead of chopping it exactly and auto looping, is also like DJing and scratching live. It takes a bit of practice but once you have it then it's second nature. TBH I'm old and the new technology frightens me lol

    •  4 роки тому +1

      @ working with a 500 is like working with one of those classics in terms of sampling, especially when you haven't upgraded the RAM from 16 to 128mb. The fact that it works on batteries too and it has internal effects that are very usable has made the 500 a dark horse that isn't so dark anymore.
