Hernia is asymptomatic bulge or swelling from abdominal wall, which come out while sneezing, coughing exercise etc and goes back inside in lying position. That's why early small hernia may be missed in sonography.
With time bulge increases in size, goes back inside when pushed, and symptoms start, such as dragging pain in groin.
With time it becomes irreducible and may not go back even with pressure, contents of hernia remains in the sac.. and it can get stuck at the neck of the sac (obstruction phase) symptoms such as vomiting, pain may start. immediate hospitalization and surgical treatment is needed at this stage.
