This song is the perfect release at the end of an intensely beautiful and emotional album. It almost brings me to tears every time. You have to listen to the whole album, even if you don’t do it on here.
SO GLAD you caught that the whisper scream is like a whisper metal voice. Most reactors just laugh at the absurdity of it but you caught the significance, imo. I like to imagine that the entire song is what she's expressing in her mind while alone in her quiet room. So that loud release is personified by that "whisper scream" -- something she can't do in her room.
The whole album is fantastic. I think you'd really like BoyGenius, which is a group Pheobe is in with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus (all fantastic individually too). They put out an EP in 2018 and are releasing an album next month. They already released three of the songs for the album!
This song is even more cathartic at the end of an album that doesn’t indulge itself with such moments. She shared a story about asking one of her collaborators Conor Oberst on how to scream because she had never done it before. He told her that there is no secret - you just scream. I feel like that’s the meaning of life in a nutshell, especially the laughter on the absurdity of it all.
PLEAAASE react to Punisher. This song is one of the BEST album closers I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Her lyricism is so simple yet so complex at the same time.
I think you would absolutely adore her song "Killer + The Sound" with Noah and Abby Gunderson. as well as being so so incredible, evocative, and chilling, many of her songs have references to either 'killers' or 'the sound'
Punisher is one of the greatest albums ever made and this is such a perfect ending to the album. The slow build into a satisfying and massive bridge to end the song. I can’t wait for the boygenius album. If you’ve never listened to that project, you are in for a treat.
This song really captures how it feels to live in America right now. It’s like finding comfort with and learning to live despite the absurdity. Especially on an album titled punisher, it’s just such a timely masterpiece.
Phoebe is a storyteller who happens to use music as her medium. Her lyrics could be printed as a stand-alone poetry book. Aurora Aksnes(Aurora), Ethel Cain are a couple of the young guns who are storytellers as well.
I love this song so much and am so excited to (potentially) get to hear it live when I see her as an opener for Taylor in May 🤞♥️ Please react to her albums!
PLEASE please react to “Hi Ren” by REN - it’s a musical, lyrical, story telling masterpiece. It’s honestly a profound experience to watch the video - something I’ve ever experienced before in a music video. He deals so profoundly with mental health, self doubt, and hope. I think it’d be right up to ur alley - and it’s just astoundingly good 👏x
This song is INCREDIBLE live, the crowd screams with her and it’s so therapeutic
I went to her Amsterdam show in 2022 and I Know the End was phenomenal live, it was crazy!!
@@-Roos97- You’re so lucky. I wish I could have been there just to scream in unison with the crowd and Phoebe
