Great lesson and analysis. 10:40 - Alternate middle roll -- M-I-M-T; 1-2-1-5 -- Also known as Osborne roll or Dillard roll, though Doug probably got it from listening to Sonny. I never listened to Osborne Brothers records when I was learning, but I heard Doug Dillard use this roll A LOT for ascending and descending scalar, almost melodic, phrases using two-note partial chord shapes. Back in the 70s, writers in Banjo Newsletter used to call these "uphill and downhill Dillards."
Hey Ricky I've been a fan of your channel for a while I just waited till this video to chime in. I'm really new to banjo I've only been messing with three finger for about 2 years I know it's not related to this particular video but I'm really struggling on up the neck stuff and getting licks under my belt any advice for that would be appreciated!
Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out! The best way that I know to navigate up the neck is with double stops. Check out my video "The Foggy Mountain Secret" for that lesson
Hey man time has been crazy still interest in getting some lessons regular, probably will be difficult weekly tho maybe monthly at the moment I'm stretched thin, What's best like private or thru your Patreon what's are we looking at?
