      With a roster of senior league players over 35 year old, Marmol has miraculously got the team almost .500 for the whole season. If Mo and Bloom are fired and replaced by a capable POBO, Marmol will win the NL Division again, maybe more.

    • @mikew3741
      @mikew3741 3 дні тому +2

      @rayrussell6258 I couldn't disagree more. Oli and miraculously don't belong in the same sentence. It's dead obvious at this point that he fails to get the most out of his players. He doesn't inspire his players to put in the extra work that's required to be great. There is no excuse for the season Gorman, Walker and Arenado had. We missed out on 30 homeruns from Tyler O'Neill because he couldn't get along with him. It just goes on and on.

    • @rayrussell6258
      @rayrussell6258 2 дні тому

      @@mikew3741 Mike, sorry you've missed it somehow, but Mozeliak disrespected O'Neill in contract negotiations, while in arbitration. O'Neill got an attitude problem over the episode, and wasn't hustling and always complaining about aches and pains. He's still doing that in Boston, under a different Manager. It wasn't about Marmol. He's got 30 home runs because of the ball park he plays in, but his batting average is nearly the same as in StL the last year there. You people can't see forests for trees. O'Neill was traded by Mozeliak and Bloom, not by Marmol. This failure is all Mozeliak and Bloom, not Marmol.
      Walker was put on last year's roster by Mozeliak, he put Gorman on the roster, he put Carlson on the roster. These guys didn't pan out with the talent they actually had, but Mo made those decisions to sign those players instead of others more talented, not Marmol. Walker should still be two years from even being on the field in StL. He isn't good enough.
      And I have to wonder how Marmol is responsible for Arenado getting older. You really make no sense, and are among the people criticizing the wrong person. It's clear that Marmol won a Division championship when he had a capable roster. It's also clear that he got the most that could be expected out of a pitching staff of seniors over 35 year old this season. Switch your ire to Mozeliak and Bloom for what's happened to the Cardinals. You'll be more right as soon as you open your eyes to that fact.

    • @mikew3741
      @mikew3741 2 дні тому +1

      @rayrussell6258 I didn't miss it, I remember the arbitration snub clearly. Unfortunately, that's just part of the business. A good manager still gets the best out of a player in that situation. I have consistently been calling for Mo to be fired. His product is stale, 90ish win teams that barely make the playoffs and aren't contenders for the last 10 years. That's the thing though this roster was capable of 87-90 wins, Oli simply didn't do his job. Stop making every excuse possible for him it looks pathetic at this point, he deserves to be fired.

    Dewitt and Mo have destroyed this organization through their arrogance and incompetence. There is no easy way out of this, they need a total rebuild of the front office, drafting, development and coaching. I guarantee you they will cut payroll next year and there won't be any big name free agents signed for a few years. This is going to be painful time in Cardinals fandom, and this was all because Dewitt couldn't admit he made a mistake and hold Mo accountable for his many mistakes.

      But you were wrong, because you didn't say to replace Mo, the root cause of everything. He even went on to hire Bloom, who was a horrible failure in Boston leading them down to last place in their Division before being fired, bringing even more losing attitude to the team in StL this year.

      @rayrussell6258 3 дні тому

      @@mwconservative lol, well I include ridding the front office of Mo and his losing philosophy in "changes" that were not made. I don't consider Marmol part of the changes needed.
      Mo actually made more changes, he got rid of Carlson and Edman, then DFA's the guys he brings in like Tommy Pham. We got nothing in the trade for O'Neill either. Mo's trades have all been to reduce payroll. At least Fedde is still with us, he is a decent pitcher when he gets run support. Fans should not be blaming Marmol for any of this. It's 100% Mo and Bloom who must go.
      Look at Detroit, they kept Hinch as Manager even though they had losing records a couple of years. He was getting the Marmol treatment by fans in Detroit, but team owners decided to only fire the POBO, and the new POBO has brought in good enough talent that the team has already rebounded and is tied for 2nd wildcard spot as of yesterday.

    I agree that young players need coaches that can instruct them. What hurt Walker was sending him to AAA to change his swing for launch angle. Homers will come so teach them to hit other than homers. Don’t agree with Marmol doing a good job with bullpen. First half used the same 3 pitchers and had an effect after All star game . They needed rest. Much better last 2 months since had an idea to give others a chance and it was good.

    • @rayrussell6258
      @rayrussell6258 3 дні тому

      that launch angle thing was an excuse to give the reporters something else to write about. Walker was sent to the Minors because he was hitting .100 and striking out 35% of the time, which should not be on a Major league team. In the first half the pitchers like Matz were on IL so much, StL only had 5 guys to hand the ball to. And Mikolas was giving up too many games all season. Players get instructed in the MINOR league, not at the MLB level. Those coaches in StL are there only to advise players when they are asked by players, and they provide advice to the Manager before and during games. They are not hand-holders for grown men professional baseball players. The problem in StL is pure and simple -- Mo and Bloom.

Would Wainwright or Carpenter be pitching coach. Or maybe Molina ??? Or would he want bench coach ??? Nothing about Marmol personally but if you want to sell tickets I think you have to move on. I wonder if Pujols would be the perfect pick for Manager. Would instantly have everyones respect. **. When Herzog took over he traded the warning track fly ball hitters. He realized he had to tailer the ball team to the ball park. He cleaned house.

    • @rayrussell6258
      @rayrussell6258 2 дні тому

      sorry but no, based on what happened to Shildt, Oli has had no choice but to submit to Mo's analytics to run the team, or else get fired too. He deserves a chance to continue beyond Mo, under a new POBO who allows Manager to make decisions based on traditional baseball intuition and experience. Analytics doesn't work.
      Also, Tyler O'Neill's bad attitude was contract-negotiation related, over what Mo said about him during arbitration. He has even said since being traded he has no issues with Marmol. However, a baseball Manager has to maintain control over players on the team. There was nothing wrong with how Marmol disciplined O'Neill and Contreras.
      If there is any lingering doubt about Contreras, his recent stepping out of line to make statements about the front office, even though he is right about it, shows he can be a prima-donna, and Marmol had to clip him back some over his poor defensive effort. After that episode, Contreras worked harder to improve his defense.
      Someone like Billy Martin would have been even more blunt with O'Neill and Contreras. Martin chewed out Reggie Jackson in the dugout, in front of cameras. Jim Leyland similarly chewed out Barry Bonds in front of cameras. In both cases, insubordination was eliminated from the teams.

    Skip Schumaker is a 56-96 Manager this season, last I checked. Certainly not someone who should be hired in StL. (nor should the Reds either, imo)
    I agree, JD, that player performance and the front office's absolute failure to do advanced scouting, evaluate 2-way talent, and put together a winning roster are why the team isn't winning. Marmol has done miracles keeping this team near .500.
    But I'm seeing nothing out of Walker other than the same thing he did last season, he fattens up his stats when the season is over for most of our opponents, or they are resting their pitchers for the playoffs to come. The new POBO needs to take the month of September, and use that to trade him. We cannot have Walker's strike outs and defensive shortcomings on the field again in 2025.

  • @Howard2006

    The Cardinals should play players like Baker and bring up Scott to get some playing time. They should also be careful with the starting staff to avoid injuries and should give minor league prospect pitchers.Oli is the manager and he cannot pitch or hit for the team. Better performance but not anywhere near expectations! Walker should have played regularly when he came back the first time and Baker should have been given more of a chance since Goldy may not be back. However, if Mo is retiring and Brown takes over, Brown should pick his own manager.

Ownership there didn't fire Hinch, they fired the POBO Al Avila, hired a new POBO who revamped the roster, and Hinch has them in the mix for playoffs with just a few more regular season games to play.
    Marmol and staff are doing a much better job with this senior league roster Mo gave them than Bell was doing in Cincinnati. Oli and staff deserve a full season under a new POBO, and the new POBO better be someone other than Bloom, who is no better than Mo at the job.

    The Cards are by far my favorite baseball sport team and it ain’t even close, but the small market Royals are our Missouri neighbors who play in the American League.
    Forget game 6, 1985 from the stand point the Royals should not have won! The Royals did not cheat! The umpire made a horrendous call and the Cardinals could not overcome it!
    That was the impact the UMPIRE had on that game and game 7. Any good team will take advantage of it and that’s what the Royals did!

    If possible, change hitting coach but give Oli a chance with a decent roster. As for Blake, from what I've seen, is good. He modified pitching approach for Lynn, Gibson, Helsley, Liberatore, McGreevy and it worked. Pallante got a new pitch during this offseason, he worked with Ward to implement it in game and boy oh boy did it work when you see the improvement from last year to this year. So I would keep him. Also he changed philosophy from Maddux who is a good pitching coach but tries to apply the same philosophy without consideration for the pitchers he is working with (stuff, pitching repertoire,...), making them all get the same approach which is terrible.

    Slash $50M, I’m ok with letting the young guys play. Love to see McGreevy, Hence, Mathews,Graceffo all get a shot. Problem is if they have a bad outing back to Memphis you go. Leave them alone!!!! Let them learn the league and how to navigate MLB hitters. Same for the position players!!! If one of the young guys has an 0/22, leave him alone!!!!! I think most fans would love to see these guys grow into great MLB players!

    Fire Oli??? How many pitches did he throw, how many times did he come up to bat, more importantly how many players did he sign this year? He may not be the best but he is not the cause of the problems the Cardinals have experienced this year. Too many times the GM/Owners just use the Mgr., as a scape goat instead of fixing the real problems. I don't care who manages as long as we win and we can't win with the players we currently have, because they simply did not perform this year. Facts are facts, if you don't believe them just look at the players numbers compared to other teams. Just saying!

    More than any other move, I believe the Cardinals need to prioritize player development and the entire coaching organization. Other teams incorporate much more sophisticated coaching and technology-driven player development. The Cards need to modernize in order to get the most out each player and help players reach their potential. Imho

    • @rayrussell6258

      sorry but just the opposite is true ..... too much analytics "technology" is used in StL because Mozeliak insists on it. He fired Shildt because he used Manager's instincts instead of analytics. Marmol cannot effectively do much of anything if it isn't based on analytics.
      Don't listen to those green 20-30 year old reports who parrot the wrong message everywhere. Our scouting system under Mo only looks for fastball hitters, but they come up to the team unable to hit off-speed pitches, and are really not good defensive players. The priority in StL, and only priority the day after the season ends, is to fire Mozeliak and Bloom.

    I love them both, but Arenado and Goldy are past their prime…. They just are. Time for both to go.
    Pitching is king in baseball… you have to focus your minor league system around elite pitching. We haven’t done that.
    That being said, Oli isn’t a coach, he’s a yes man for Mo… that won’t get it done
    I agree with some other commenters… might be looking at a rough 3 to 5 years ahead. Hope I’m wrong.

    Hey JD; the Cardinals have a line up that seems to made up of players who are not winning players. Go back to the playoffs against the Phillies. Goldy and Nado did not hit. They may be great players but are they winning players? From what I’ve seen it’s become questionable to me. I’d say Contreras and Winn appear to be winning players. Maybe Donovan too. IDK. Overall I just don’t think the Cardinals are gamers when big games are being played or a regular season game is on the line. The Cards need clutch players who love to be at the plate when there are RISP and/or the game is on the line. You know…WINNING PLAYERS!

    I'm sorry, but Gorman hitting less than .250 is not acceptable. I'm done with the "boom or bust" guys (if you can't hit for average, you get our batting this year: unable to score with runners in scoring position).
    I don't need Gorman to hit .300. But hitting 1/4 times, for a guy who was supposed to be a "premiere bat" in our farm, is the lowest I'm willing to move the bar.

    If you remember " soft contact" thoughts. With 3 wins out of last 6 at least over 500. But still not good enough to ever get away for that 500 mark. Are we to believe that Goldy & Arenado are on the down hill. That Offense is so bad right now. RISP numbers are horrible. Record breaking at that. When these players sign huge contracts, they wouldn't give back money to sign more players. What do you think about Contreras's contract when he got all that money.
