I was just in Nepal this past fall and got stuck in a little town, Jomsom, when the road got washed out. Tucked in the mountains, planes need clear weather to fly to avoid crashing into the mountain (which rumor has it, had just happened again in the spring). Every morning pretty much everyone in the hotel would go stand outside in the courtyard, evaluating the clouds and visibility and we'd debate amongst ourselves the likelihood of any flights. Never cleared up enough for a plane, but we did get a rescue helicopter eventually. It was quite a dramatic end to my hiking trip.
