A song with the theme of "The Night of the Milky Way Train" by Kenji Miyazawa.
But this is not the story BGM.
I composed because I wanted to express the story using sound.
Let's go on a train trip to the galaxy. - KASHIWA Daisuke -

My father told me its story: A long time ago in a field there lived a scorpion that ate other bugs by using its tale to catch them. Then one day he found himself cornered by a weasel. Fearing for his life, he ran but could not escape it. Suddenly, he fell into a well and, unable to climb out, began to drown. He started to pray then, saying:
”‘Oh, God. How many lives have I stolen to survive? Yet when it came my turn to be eaten by the weasel, I selfishly ran away. And for what? What a waste my life has been! If only I’d let the weasel eat me, I could have helped him live another day. God, please hear my prayer. Even if my life has been meaningless, let my death be of help to others. Burn my body so that it may become a beacon, to light the way for others as they search for true happiness.’
“The scorpion’s prayer was answered, and his body became a beautiful crimson flame that shot up into the night sky. There he burns to this day. My father was telling the truth…”
- Kenji Miyazawa, "Night on the Galactic Railroad" (1927)
It's a beautiful story. You may also read "The Nighthawk Star よだかの星".
@@KASHIWA_Daisuke Thanks for the recommendation! I read it and you're correct--it is a beautiful story. I also purchased pm3 and am looking forward to listening to it. :)
Still one of the most intricately produced, and most memorable songs I’ve ever heard.
That was 13 years ago.
@@KASHIWA_Daisuke And you have continued to compose fantastic music ever since then, making several of my favorite albums of all time. I feel lucky that I can be here to hear it.
@@KASHIWA_Daisuke Thank you.
@@KASHIWA_Daisukeyou know its good when people keep returning to it :)
this music saved me when i was 15 , thank you
I encourage everyone here to check out Fishmans 'Long Season', if this song means something to you. Big love
Favorite album of all time; the more you listen to it the more you get out of it. You start to see the scenes from the books emerge and come to life. It's literature fully realized and one of the greatest adaptations in any medium. Nothing else has ever made me feel the types of emotions this man's work has, I love everyone that is coming to listen to this album and I hope that you too get as much out of this music as I have.
I can move forward too, thanks to you guys.
I named my cat after this song, I enjoyed this mysterious song for 13 years now. Thank you kashiwa
It's a cute name!
random guy from germany here; Like it great piece ^^
If only I could listen to this again for the first time.
Audio storytelling at its finest. And every emotion of the human soul to boot.
When I first heard this in my twenties it deeply changed me.
A fair few years ago I used to be the channel that put up this music track, because of my desire to share this piece of music with everyone. Of all the music I have listened to, nothing has ever managed to be as impactful as this piece has. It has carried me through my toughest times and inspired me every time I have listened. As I uploaded it to share with friends, the video itself slowly accumulated a fair few comments and reading through other people’s experiences is a treasured memory of mine. When it was eventually removed, so too were the comments and I lamented over the fact that I couldn’t share it anymore. I remember writing an email requesting that they upload it themselves, and while it might have taken a while, I’m ecstatic to see it back up under the composer’s name.
It’s been over 10 years since I first heard this and I’m just as in love with it as I was when I first listened. It may well forever remain the magnum opus of my collection.
Sorry...about 10 years ago, UA-cam was also a problem for musicians. and we had to remove it for various reasons. But with the creation of "Content ID", the rights are slowly being protected. I am glad to appreciate your sentiment. Thank you!
Could have written this myself. 8 years after finding it, it's still my favourite song. No other song has captured me like this one has, there's something magical about it. Stella has very special meaning to me.
Didn't even realize I was listening to this at 1.5x speed. I recommend trying it!
I remember the first time hearing this, I was enthralled. It was in the background on a stream I was watching at the time. Fell in love with it and have been enamored since.
Thank you for this gift to humankind.
Destiny ?
@@WuubWuub Destiny.
10 years after, still the best track i ve ever heard.
The milestone of my musical journey.

My all time favorite song.

I love coming back to this many years later. Lots of memories listening to this driving to high school!
This was one of the reasons I got interested in japanese music and other circles like Virgin Babylon Records. But there is not much that can compare to this piece of music. It is still my favorite.
Stay tuned for "pm3".
has to be the greatest piece of music ive ever heard
So happy to see an official youtube for one of my favourite artists ever, and for my favourite song ever to be the first upload.
I feel brave!
That's the song i started to know you, and that's gonna be my favorite till the Day i die.
21:03 Chills everytime. Honestly one of the greatest songs ever produced. Monumental
Thanks!
Finally I can listen to it knowing that it's from the author himself. I've only listened to your music on other channels feeling bad about it because I can't buy your CD and in todays age I don't really own anything that can play a CD. Your music is constantly in the back of my head and I'm returning to it every now and then. Thank you very much for your work, not many artists get through me the same way.
You don't need a CD to listen to it, so enjoy.
Hello, i'm from Brazil, and, this song is my love.
I've listened to this song for many years and it always made me wonder if you also have sound->image synesthesia? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromesthesia). I have and I can tell you that your music is very different from regular instrumental music. It not only sounds fantastic but it also creates beautiful imagery in my mind. The way the sound pops out from the darkness of silence is like watching beautiful fireworks in my mind's eye. You are an ingenious painter!
Thank you! I'm trying to create stories and landscapes with sound. I'm glad that comes across to you.
one of the most absurdly talented musicians of all time, thank you for everything you've put out. your music has dazzled me since i was a young teenager
The whole team is mind blowing
@@mendozosa what is he a part of ?
I was not expecting to see you here Lute! I'm so happy to see you love this music too :D
This song is unforgettable. As a musician it has embellished the tonality of the lydian.
It's a fcking masterpiece
Эта музыка для меня - непобедимая весна.
Been listening to this regularly for 10 years, always connects for me, thanks for your work.
Still one of the best songs I've ever heard, incredible production and the movements are beautiful and exactly where they should be. I'm glad you decided to upload this yourself.
Hi Kashiwa, im a big fan of ur work, thanks for putting Program Music I on Spotify!! I saw your interview with archipel a month ago, really inspiring to hear about what drives you to make music. Just listened to sons and it is really good! I hope you will continue to make such innovative and beautiful music, you are for me one of the only artists that really makes the music more than music, it is something I feel. It changes the way how the world looks and pulls me into this universe that you explained in the interview.
Thank you! You should try your hand at aquariums too.
@@KASHIWA_Daisuke I will for sure in the future! I forgot to say and i don't know if it interests you but last year i made a visualisation of Solar Man for a short film, here's the link if you ever want to watch it: ua-cam.com/video/fcv9EjmE3zs/v-deo.html
God this song makes me cry. This is unbelievably good music, and I'm glad you've finally put it on Spotify. Thank you for sharing your work with us. I've loved your stuff for years, but always find myself coming back to Stella.
I am glad. It is music that travels the galaxy.
Thanks for creating this, it's my all-time favorite song. Absolutely beautiful and a masterpiece.
I'm so happy!
In the german version of the Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild, Kass name is actually Kashiwa. I really like to believe that a fan of your's sat at Nintendo haha. Kass is the Musician traveling Hyrule if you don't know.
Interesting! In some areas of Japan, chicken is called "kashiwa". That seems to be why it is called that. I also bought "Breath of the Wild" but haven't played it yet. LOL
Wow, absolutely phenomenal. Don't know what to say, coming across an official version of this song is awesome. It brought so many memories to light. I remember this song carrying me through many times, good or bad. Thank you for that.
I'm glad I could help.
Your music and visuals help me relax, open my heart, help me feel deeply which helps relieve tension in my body while feeling loved by the gentle beauty of your visuals. Thank you for making my life better. I enjoyed going forward and backward.
what the beautiful is... love this song.
Hi Kashiwa, I just want you to know that you're the most impactful artist in my life thus far. You are up there for me with Radiohead, Coltraine and Chopin for me.
I'm honored! Chopin is my favorite.
It's been more than 10 years and this still one of the best songs I've ever heard. Thank you, thank you so much❤
Hello KASHIWA, thank you for producing the finest music this century has to offer. To this day the pieces on Program Music I stand far above anything I have ever heard before. As a person for whom music is vividly synesthetic and visual, I can say that this music stands far above anything I have ever seen before as well. It is very dear to my heart. Please release remasters on vinyl! Take Care!
Thank you! Very happy feedback. Synesthesia is a strange thing, but somehow understandable.
@@KASHIWA_Daisuke Will Write Once, Run Melos get a remaster too? :^)
Thank you for making this! This is one of my favorite pieces of music! I originally heard this back in 2016.
Kashiwa,
Thank you for updating me. Subscribed.
i guess it is a life sentence coping material for me. such a strong story. the mixing is something else. otherworldly. this is peak, must be lonely there.
A true masterpiece! I can't wait to listen to Kashiwa-San new album!!
It's coming soon...
❤ Finally...
Thank you so much for posting this, I'd love to buy the album or record! My hope is one day to see you live. I could not write without your music - thank you for the wonderful work you do.
I am proud of your music ~~
Thanks~~
Thank you for all of the beautiful and creative music you have made over the years. When I first heard stella over 10 years ago it really changed my outlook on music, and it still has a huge impact on me every time I listen to it. Even though I love so many of your works, stella will always hold a special place in my heart.
I love this song so much, since 2014! What a masterpiece! Is this your official channel? :D
That's right! Have fun with it.
Thanks a lot, love your music, do you plan to release another project anytime soon? If so, you might want to consider starting a twitter page to keep both western and Japanese fans updated?
I am preparing for my next project. I will inflate it more.
I'm not very good at Twitter. I joined it before but quit after about a month. haha..
I also have a Facebook page, but I don't manage it.
I miss my wife
Кто знает, если ли этот альбом на виниле? Искала, не нашла, очень хочется купить.
i wonder, is the remastered version available anywhere else?
Thanks! Not for sale, so enjoy here.
