  • Failed Breville giving error 001. Result of motor / Gear Stuck.
    Fortunately replaced with warranty.

    just thought i'd mention for those that don't know. You can easily take the stainless disc off my turning the plastic cover in the center counter clockwise ( might need some kinda pliers) I was able to do it by hand once the plastic with the nut is unscrewed you can just pull the disc out and clean it very easily. hope this helps

    Sometimes even if you clean everything perfectly the 001 error will still keep coming back. On my machine there was a tiny 4 pin mosfet that went bad on the main circuit board when you open the bottom of the machine. It is on the back side of the board, you can easily bypass it by soldering a wire across from the 3 common pins to the 4 common pins. There is 1 pin left make sure you don't bridge to it , it is the on switch for the mosfet, a gnd reference will turn it on. This can be done by anyone with basic electronics skills. On mine it was turning on but not enough to allow enough current to flow to power the motor for the spinning disc. If your disc motor seems to be struggling to turn and its clean this is most likely the cause.

    001 error. Did everything in the video and instruction books. Ready to call it quits. Cleaned it and set it sideways in the sink. Flooded the spindle area with boiling water, tilting it to flood the spindle area only( DO NOT FLOOD THE MACHINE) just the spindle area inside. Wiped it dry. Notice spindle is hot. Let it cool for about 5 min. Plug it in. Set it up and add beans and water. Plug it in. Open the the filter door and close it back and hear the pleasant sound of the spindle spin. Make Coffee be happy.!!!!

    I have the older version of this machine and it gives the same error. I filled the tank with one third of white vinegar and two third of water. I start brew after 10 minutes and it went well, no 001 error. I think scale prevents the heater from working properly. The vinegar mix helped to remove the scale. Give it a try and hopefully it works for you.

    Hi I am not under warranty did a search and found "Breville Coffee Maker with Grinder How to Remove and Clean the Back of the Round Metal Disc/Disk" video by Automight and my coffee maker is now error free. the disc gets a build up on the back side and that video show how to fix it.

    I just had the same 001 error show up and found your video looking for a solution. After following your instructions it too failed to operate so I removed the upper burr, brushed out all the coffee dust then vacuumed out the grinder area, coffee chute, and around the disk. Put it back together and everything worked as new. Just thought I'd pass that along as something else to try. Cheers.

      I cleaned everything but the shute cover disc was stuck in place at 12 o'clock position. I was not able to remove it so I used dental floss to clean behind it. Eureka! No more code 001 so I will floss regularly to remove coffee residue build-up.

    Another thing to check if you're getting an 004 code. The freewheeling diode across the heating relay coil shorted out on my unit. It's labeled D5 on the PCB. Check that it's not completely shorted. It's in parallel with the relay coil so it will ordinarily be low resistance, but check that it's not 0.

    This machine that I have has a stuck disc as well. I maintain the POS quite well. I see no reason to buy one of these, given the cost and how often they seem to fail. 7900+ views on this video tells me there is something wrong by design with these machines. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE.

    On mine I could hear the relay kicking on to run the small motor (to open the chute), but the motor never ran, and made no noise. I tore the unit down and the motor had a dead short on it (like 1.5 ohm) applying 12v did nothing. I opened the gearbox and nudged some of the gears, applied 12v and it was running again????? I couldn’t get it to jamb again. I did clean the motor brushes and shaft in case that caused it…. I put it all together and it has been working ever since. The resistance on the working motor I think was 22.5 ohms. Motor dated 2019/10/29. No idea what caused it to stop

      +Alloda Badeucie the failure is the disk / chute that will stop working eventually. I had my machine replaced twice already. It’s a design flaw

    I just got mine last week and i'm trying to decide if I should return it or not. If you had it to do all over again would you have bought this knowing what you know now? I got mine for the best price i've seen after stalking it for over 2 years. My only problem so far (1 wk in) is that there is a definite odd flavor given off by the machine. Luckily I prefer pretty strong coffee because I had to make my strength level 8 to get it close to the flavor i'm use to. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do.

      the1blkman it’s a great coffee machine and their customer service is great. But it does break down easily if you don’t maintain it

      The 1blkman, I too got mine about 3 weeks ago, however, I did find that I had to play with not only the strength setting, but also the Grind setting. I originally had the Grind and strength setting both at 4 and the coffee seemed pretty weak. I increased the strength setting to 5 then 6 then 7 and still, I found it to be too weak. It wasn’t until I kept the strength setting at 7 and adjusted the Grind to 3 then 2 where I found the sweet spot (at least for me). When you decrease the Grind to be finer, the contact time of the water on the grounds increases resulting in a stronger brew, however, too fine of a Grind will result in a bitter taste because the water contacts the beans too long. It’s definitely an art.
      This being said, I do love this machine. We had a Cuisinart Grind and Brew before this and the Breville blows it out of the water. No matter what machine you get with a built-in grinder, it will require maintenance just because you have a very nice conical burr grinder as well as a coffee maker all in one machine. My $.02.

      Thank you BSharp, I wound up returning the machine. I just couldn't justify the cost of it with the bad tasting coffee. I just couldn't get past that odd taste and smell. I absolutely loved everything else about it though and it fit right in with all of my other Breville stuff. Maybe i'll try it again after a few updated models.

      +the1blkman they have a major design flaws. I replaced it 3 times . The beans chute stops turning

      I fixed my machine by getting a steamer to spray and clear up debris behind the coffee chute disc.
      After I emptied the entire bottle worth of water in steam form it eventually rotated the chute disc back to the original position and everything returned back to normal.

    design flaw..We hardly ever used the grinder and still error 001. Made great coffee, out of warranty GARBAGE.

    Same error here... called service....they would not replace... just 2-3 month outside warranty....they want another $130 to repair it... would not recommend this machine as it is expensive and only has 1 year warranty..... buy something else.

      +teddyz2112 for me I got lucky , perhaps call another time and speak to someone else.
      Otherwise one would say (not I) buy another one and return it and use that bill and serial number to warranty the old one.

      Hi, I had the same problem and fixed it! I'd contacted Breville and since I'm using the coffee maker in a country where they do not sell it I lost the warranty. We decided to take matters into our own hands literally since we had nothing to loose. If you're handy with a screw driver, just follow this video instructions (ua-cam.com/video/B25HlC1e-J8/v-deo.html) to remove the housing for the bean hopper, the float is a pain! It took us quite a few tries (we ended up using two knives). There's a white wire that connects it to the rest of the machine. Those wires are welded to the bean hopper and covered by a black rubber protection. In ours, those protections were loose and the wires are pretty tight when you put the bean hopper back on. It caused a short circuit that prevents the disc from turning correctly. Just place them covering the metal connectors and hold a lighter for a few seconds to the black rubber protections so they contract and cover the metal fixings of the wire. Reasemble the machine and enjoy your coffee again! We're on our second pot!! Thank you Doug for your video!!!

    We just got this machine and keep getting the same error, endless resets, unplugs, cleaning bla bla bla... $400 machine should work - end of story...ridiculous we cant even get water to run through it...

    I bought 2 of these machines. If anyone knows of a class action lawsuit please let me know. They break right after warranty and there’s no way to fix it.
