I like your words of wisdom and helpful for us aspiring coders. I may not dwell in software engineering but I’d like to be a web developer. Maybe one day be a software dev but that’s a whole different ball park! Web development jobs also pay very well especially where I live in California and once you reach senior status sky is the limit.
You just have to keep going and make your way to your aspirations! With that mindset, you are already one step closer to your dream of becoming a web developer!
I'm new to coding and hoping to make a living doing this! I'm very motivated an I want to do as best as I can do. Currently, I am learning through codeacademy about a couple of hours a day after work. Very basic so far, but, everyone has to take their first step somewhere!
That’s good, Aether! I use codeCademy to teach my students the basics, is s great starting point. If your ever need a mentor to teach you how to code, check out www.ROOTsTechnology.info Wishing you the best on your coding journey. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
I have also been thinking about switching from Finance to software engineering. What is the best project can I start with web development (using HTM, CSS, JAVASCRIPT) to add to my portfolio that will lead me to software engineering path?
Hey Philip! Glad you're interested in learning to code and becoming a software engineer. To answer your question, web development isn't just something you do a project and just get a job, it's about understanding the different technologies you're working with enough to be able to discuss them and explain your projects. You have to learn more than those three technologies that you mentioned, and your projects have to incorporate different technologies that companies use daily, like "APIs". Here's a link to my sample curriculum, so you can see some of the technologies you need to learn and the order to learn them in: drive.google.com/file/d/1wJdSuSlxehJU97m8f1iYMqD1niMrDVys/view?usp=sharing Also, here's a video I did on the types of projects to build to help you get a job: ua-cam.com/video/dbia5lqgEXI/v-deo.html
I've recently come across you channel. Thank you for being informational and straight to the point. I'm transitioning into the programming industry and I'm starting my Python Journey now. I look forward to more educational content to become a software engineer.
Oh wow, that's awesome Angelic! Glad you're learning a technical skill that'll open up your job opportunities. Thank you for tuning in and subscribing to my channel! Stay tuned for more tutorials and insights!
Hellow Please may u give me some advice I have learned some html , css but haven't learned java script and learned python syntax and I need to buld a web application so what steps should I take tk complete my journey
Hi Prince! There are still some technologies you need to learn to help you on your journey, check out the Sample Curriculum on my website that'll show you the different technologies you need to learn and the order you need to learn them in: rootstechnology.info/resources/
I received my bachelor's degree in Information Science over 6 months ago, but have not been able to land a job in the field of IT. One of my drew-backs is my age. The other is I'm not sure what I'm doing or to do when applying for a job. To let you know my age is 60. I would like the work my way into the IT field and make 6 figure or above. The question is. Will I be able to get a job in IT being my age, and where do I start?
Hi George! Sorry about the tough time you're having with the job search. Unless you were told your age is what made them pass on you, then I wouldn't even focus on that, since there's nothing you can do about your age. Same thing with race. You can't do anything about it, so better to focus on what you can and keep applying. My question though is, what jobs are you applying to? "IT" is a huge field, and having the degree isn't really enough to get a job. For example, having a Computer Science degree isn't enough to get a job as a software developer, you'd have to build some websites and apps to actually demonstrate your skill. So, think about the role you're trying to apply to and look into how you can demonstrate your skills there. A better way to contact me will be to message me on my website, so your comment doesn't get lost in the notifications: rootstechnology.info/
Hey! I actually made a video on what's best for beginners to start learning: ua-cam.com/video/nl41QFAMOJc/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Thank you for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hi TJ, Thanks for the great video👍🏻 If so confused, what's the difference between Software Developer vs Web Devloper vs Web Application Developer Kindly reply
Hey Marcus! Those are all the same things. Different companies use different terms to describe the same job/role. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
thanks, TJ for all you are doing for us, my name is Yassine from morocco, I have started with HTML and CSS one month ago, now I am confused about remembering all the tags and functions I have learned I hope you are going to help me with that.
Hi Yassine! If you're not doing this already, you should be taking notes and reviewing/studying your notes to help refresh your memory. Treat learning to code like you're studying for schoolwork. Focus on understanding and not just memorizing. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hi firstly amazing content. I want to build apps for android and os devices. Would you still advise learning the html, css and javascript or would you lean towards something more like Dart or Flutter, etc. Thanks
Hi Benjamin! You should definitely learn web development basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, before diving into Dart or Flutter. Learning those technologies first will make it easier for you to comprehend what's happening in Dart and Flutter, and make it easier for you to manipulate HTML & CSS code in Dart and Flutter. When you're building stuff for the web, which is what Dart & Flutter is for, you should always learn web development fundamentals first. Hope that helps. Thank you for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hey! No, I wouldn't. If you're learning Python for web development, that means you need to build a website for it anyways, so you should start with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The only time you should start with Python, is if you're learning it for data science. Otherwise, don't start with it. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!

TJ, so you're saying you dont need a CS degree to work in the software engineering field. But I wonder if not having a degree will prevent you from getting a higher pay? I also wonder what is the most streamlined way to get into working for a good company with a good paying job without interning first. Seems like getting a CS degree, then interning is the most standard way to enter.
Hi Matthew! As an engineer, you control you own pay and career path because you can always get a new job that pays more. You don't have to wait around for a promotion or stay in a situation where you feel like you're not paid enough. As long as you're an engineer, recruiters will always be trying to recruit you and you can always ask for more money than you make. But, whether or not you should get a CS degree depends on your career goals. Even if you have a CS degree, you still have to teach yourself how to build websites and applications on the side because most CS programs focus on theory instead of practical skills and applications. So, either way it goes, you'll still need to teach yourself to help improve your chances of getting a good paying job.
How do you spark creativity when it comes to coding? I understand that you have to learn the basics, but what can you make after you've learned the different types of tech languages? I hope this makes sense
Hey! So, once you learn the basics, you start building websites to apply your skills. That’s where your creativity comes in. I’m sure when you look at a website you can think of different design and style changes you would make if you knew how to code. Well, once you know how to code, you can flex those muscles now. That’s why i teach my students using a heavily project-based approach. Not only did it help with creativity, it helps them to really hone their skills and start getting comfortable working like an engineer. Hope that helps. If you have more questions, contact me at www.ROOTsTechnology.info Hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hey TJ i came across the coding space through a codecademy sponsorship in a video on another youtuber's channel. I was wondering if you thought this might work for somebody who is thinking about pursuing the space without much ability to attend a college or anything like that or if you thought there may be a better result. hoping to hear your thoughts soon!
Hi Willie! Yeah, Codecademy is a great way to learn the basics of any technology. I use Codecademy tutorials in my Coding & Career Prep Program to teach my students the basics, before giving them multiple practice problems and projects to work on! So, It's definitely a good place to start! I recommend you focus on a more heavily project-based program though, as building projects is what helps you to really solidify those skills, and find a mentor to help tutor you along the way. Check out my Coding & Career Prep Program if you're interested in learning more: rootstechnology.info/
Tj I really want to learn coding and I have been watching tutorials hear since last month but I don't have any mentor to put me through the person I had said it will be difficult for him to teach someone bcuz he's always busy

Companies typically buy engineers Herman Miller chairs, but I’m working from home out of my sister’s room right now, so I’m using some cheap chair she has. I just bought a Herman Miller Embody chair tho, bc this chair is causing me back pain. Hope that helps answer your question. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
I’m six feet. Hmm, you can learn more about what chair size is best by Googling Herman Miller. They’re the top of the line chairs when it comes to comfort and back support. Award winning even.
Hi Anne! Yes, there are plenty of frontend developer roles! Those are one of the roles i teach my students to apply to at www.ROOTsTechnology.info It’s very rare to find pure fullstack roles, because most roles lean heavily towards the frontend or the backend. The frontend is really in demand now because of React JS. Almost every job posting now mentions React JS experience because it’s the dominant frontend JavaScript library in the job market. Hope that helps. Thank you for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Would you recommend going to school and getting a degree, just doing boot camps, or something else? Also I noticed you mentor, how much do you charge ? And what does it entail?
I replied on your other comment - but I'll paste the response here as well. Hi Jessica! Thanks for watching my videos. If you want to discuss which option is best for you, you can contact me at www.ROOTsTechnology.info to set up a phone call so I can answer your questions (or you can message me your questions there and I'll email you back) Deciding between a bootcamp vs self-taught is a decision that's based on your unique learning style. I'd have to hear more about you to give my best recommendation. And yes, I have my own Coding and Career Prep Program that I created where I mentor my students, teach them how to code and then assist them in the job search. My students go from not having any experience in coding to feeling comfortable building their own websites in just a couple weeks! You can also learn more about that on the website - www.ROOTsTechnology.info In the meantime, here are my Coding Tutorials to help you get started: ua-cam.com/play/PLSfWIdYZl6qcI4mKuRV4ViQyPzM38JPy7.html Hope to hear from you soon and start helping you on your coding journey!
Hey TJ I understand some of the basic elements of html. However my typing skills put me off as I’m a two finger typist. Would you suggest learning how to speed type? And can you suggest a good tutorial book or course to improve typing speeds?
Hi Youpele! Thanks for reaching out. Yes, i definitely recommend you do a typing tutorial first before learning how to code. You don’t want your typing to hinder your progress. My recommendation is to use Google to find an online interactive typing tutorial. Not a book. You want to actually be practicing typing, that’s how you’ll learn. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
@@rootstechnology I've been using one finger for years, just started practicing properly from your recommendation ty. I've just turned 50 and have been working on building sites all my life, i'm making a change. I'm going to learn code, it's intimidating having done nothing even close to this but i do have a macbook and i really want to learn. Love your channel, glad i found you , exciting times.
I just started watching randoms videos of how to become a software engineer because I was just curious and I came across your videos which are so interesting. However, I have no experience in the technology nor do I have any idea about coding. In fact I don’t even know where to begin let alone know any of the terms. Just to throw that out there so you know you dealing with someone who doesn’t know anything about technology. I don’t have any problem paying the money for your program because I figured that this is really something that I’m interested in and is also cheap too. Therefore, I will really like to know how long will the course take, and also how will it work being that I live in New York?
Hey Sailbou! Thanks for watching my videos and it’s excited that you’re thinking about coding. It’s actually a super cool industry. My program is self-paced, and takes students between 4-9 months depending on their own learning habits/work schedule. It’s also virtual. I have students all over the world. Feel free to send me an email if you’d like to discuss if it’s right for you. You can send a message to the contact form on my website and it will come directly to me. While you’re on my website you can also read more about the program. rootstechnology.info

I have a question, whats the difference of python and all the other languages you named? And is it good to learn python first? Or is it better to learn the other ones
Python is typically used for building web applications, data science, machine learning/AI, and it's really big with companies that work with financial data. You can always figure out what a programming language is used for by Googling something like: what is used for I always recommend beginners start by learning web development basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. To help you get started with those, here's Coding Tutorials playlist: ua-cam.com/video/gskko9DggXs/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hi Ibad! Online courses are hard if you don't have a mentor there to help you when you get stuck and have questions. And, a mentor is also important when it comes to helping you prepare for the job search. So, if you find an online course that offers you that, then definitely check it out. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend unless you think you'll be able to learn to code on your own without help from an experienced engineer. You should check out my coding & career prep program though, where I help beginners learn to code using a heavily project-based approach and I serve as their mentor as well. Check out my website to learn more: rootstechnology.info/ Hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hmm, idk much about that field. What i do know is that cybersecurity cares a lot about certifications tho, so make sure to research the certifications you need and in which order. If you look at job postings for the roles you want, they’ll typically mention the certification you need. And if not, find someone on LinkedIn that is in the role you want to be in and reach out to them to get advice on what steps to take to get to where they are. Hope that helps. Thank you for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Question, I been doing CS50 course for a couple of now, it’s very difficult course but I’m still trying to get through it, my question is should continue it or should I just learn a language?
Yeah, I recommend you start learning web development basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. That way you start learning the practical skills of building websites and web applications. You can come back to the theoretical computer science stuff later if you want, but you don’t need that to be a frontend web developer. Make sure you check out my tutorial videos to help get you started! Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel.
Is there an advantage to a CS for young people going to college or should they skip it? Also highly recommend Saylor University- it’s free through generosity of michael Saylor. You can get a certificate or degree for free.
CS programs don’t teach you the practical skills needed to build websites and web applications, they focus more on theory and understating how computers do what they do. Whether it’s an advantage or not depends on your career goals. If your goal is to be a web developer, building websites and applications, then you m need to supplement your CS degree with learning how to build websites and web applications. If your goal is to work at a large tech company that creates technology, then a CS degree will be more helpful. A lot of CS students end up having to go to coding bootcamps to learn the practical skills of building websites and web applications, because they don’t learn that in their CS degree programs.
One question is there a software engineering course for 6 months, it's about 25 hours a week, do you think 6 months is enough to start working as software engeinne, thank you greetings from London
Hi Jhoan, my program takes about 3-6 months to complete, as it's a self-paced program: www.ROOTsTechnology.info But, taking six months depends on your study schedule and how well you're understanding the material because you always want to prioritize understanding over speed. Because during the interviews, it's your understanding that will be discussed, not necessarily that you got the answer right. That's where having a mentor guiding you in the process makes a huge difference. So, if you want to learn how to code with me as your mentor, check out www.ROOTsTechnology.info In the meantime, continue watching my Coding Tutorials to help you get started: ua-cam.com/play/PLSfWIdYZl6qcI4mKuRV4ViQyPzM38JPy7.html Hope to hear from you soon and start helping you on your coding journey! Hey Shemar! I don't have a CS degree, but I have degrees in Nutrition and Business. So, it all worked out. Don't let the degree thing keep you from starting to learn though. You don't need a degree to start learning or to even apply to jobs, so I recommend you start while you can. Here, check out my Coding Tutorials playlist to help you get started: ua-cam.com/video/gskko9DggXs/v-deo.html And, for more free resources, checkout my website: www.ROOTsTechnology.info Hopefully this helps. Hi Mary! You should learn HTML & CSS before learning a programming language like Python. You can't really learn all of them at once, you'll have to learn one technology first, then learn the other after it, since they all build on top of each other. Check out my website for the sample curriculum I use to teach my students, and it'll show you what technologies to learn and the order you need to learn them in: rootstechnology.info/resources/
Hi Mohammed, I just released a video about this actually, listing out the top 7 websites to use for job searching in tech, along with some job searching tips: ua-cam.com/video/5zvO1UBgF70/v-deo.html Hope it helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hey Deng! That's a really broad question. But a good answer is, it depends on how you're learning. If you're learning to code with a heavily project-based coding program, like I teach at www.ROOTsTechnology.info, then you'll start seeing results immediately. Building projects is a good way to help you apply all the things you're learning and start getting good at coding. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing to my channel!
Hi Osayande! All of my students are still working on the program, so you won't really find them in the comments. You can check out www.ROOTsTechnology.info to read some of the testimonials so far. In the meantime, if you're interested in learning to code, check out my Coding Tutorials playlist to help you get started. And, check out the Free Resources at www.ROOTsTechnology.info as well. Hope that helps. Thanks for tuning and subscribing to my channel!
Ha! No, I don’t think any college degree is useless. It all depends on your goals and interests. Getting a degree in general helps you to learn how to think more critically due to the coursework you have to do. But, i can’t advise you on that, I’ll just say to start with the end in mind and work backwards to figure out how to achieve your goals.
Hi Daniel! I wouldn't recommend for beginners to start their coding journey by jumping into Python, or any other programming language. It's too complex a topic to hop into without having any prior coding experience. That's why I always recommend beginners start with web development basics: HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript, before diving into Python. Check out my Coding Tutorials to help you get started learning web development fundamentals: ua-cam.com/play/PLSfWIdYZl6qcI4mKuRV4ViQyPzM38JPy7.html Hope this helps. I like your words of wisdom and helpful for us aspiring coders. I may not dwell in software engineering but I’d like to be a web developer. Maybe one day be a software dev but that’s a whole different ball park!
Here's a link to my sample curriculum, so you can see some of the technologies you need to learn and the order to learn them in: drive.google.com/file/d/1wJdSuSlxehJU97m8f1iYMqD1niMrDVys/view?usp=sharing

@@rootstechnology thank you for the advice 🙏
You’re welcome!
You’re an excellent mentor! Would you recommend learning Python before dabbling into html, css, java, etc.?
Hey! No, I wouldn't. If you're learning Python for web development, that means you need to build a website for it anyways, so you should start with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
The only time you should start with Python, is if you're learning it for data science. Otherwise, don't start with it.
Hope that helps.

Hi TJ,
Early bird here ;)
Welcome Sheeraz!
Thank you for tuning in early!
If you have more questions, contact me at www.ROOTsTechnology.info

Hi TJ. Do you think that knowing only frontend is enough to be a really good software engineer?
Hi Anne!
Yes, there are plenty of frontend developer roles! Those are one of the roles i teach my students to apply to at www.ROOTsTechnology.info
It’s very rare to find pure fullstack roles, because most roles lean heavily towards the frontend or the backend.
The frontend is really in demand now because of React JS. Almost every job posting now mentions React JS experience because it’s the dominant frontend JavaScript library in the job market.
Hope that helps.

Hi Youpele! Thanks for reaching out.

I have a question, whats the difference of python and all the other languages you named? And is it good to learn python first? Or is it better to learn the other ones
Python is typically used for building web applications, data science, machine learning/AI, and it's really big with companies that work with financial data. You can always figure out what a programming language is used for by Googling something like: what is used for
I always recommend beginners start by learning web development basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. To help you get started with those, here's Coding Tutorials playlist: ua-cam.com/video/gskko9DggXs/v-deo.html

Hi Jhoan, my program takes about 3-6 months to complete, as it's a self-paced program: www.ROOTsTechnology.info
But, taking six months depends on your study schedule and how well you're understanding the material because you always want to prioritize understanding over speed.
Because during the interviews, it's your understanding that will be discussed, not necessarily that you got the answer right. That's where having a mentor guiding you in the process makes a huge difference.

I wouldn't recommend for beginners to start their coding journey by jumping into Python, or any other programming language.
It's too complex a topic to hop into without having any prior coding experience. That's why I always recommend beginners start with web development basics: HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript, before diving into Python.

I'm 18 and in college can you help me make money coding while in college?
No, I can't help you make money, but I can teach you how to code and educate you on different tech jobs you can apply to. Once you know how to code, you can also start taking on freelance projects, building websites for people.

Hi, is freecode camp a good site to learn coding?
HI David! Yes, Freecodecamp, and my personal favorite, Codecademy are great ways to learn the basics. But to really help you feel comfortable going from idea to website or web application, you need plenty of practice and projects that challenge you to do just that.
