  • A tribute to Betty Grable:
The Queen Of Technicolor, The Pin Up Girl,
The Girl With The Million Dollar Legs...
In the 1940's, she was the highest paid star in Hollywood,
During WW2 she was the number one pin up girl,
20th Century Fox insured her perfect legs for a million dollars,
She was married to bandleader Harry James for 22 years.
    In 1943, 1944, 1947 and 1948 she was number 1
at the box office, and she appeared on the list every
year throughout the 40's - she holds the
record for continuous years on the top box office draw list.
Betty is one of the greatest stars of Hollywoods golden age,
she could sing, dance, act, she was a brilliant comedienne and one of the most beautiful women in the world.
She really had something that nobody else had. And she was also a very down to earth, sweet, funny person that everyone loved to work with.
She is most remembered for starring in so many great Fox technicolor musicals, like Pin Up Girl, The Dolly Sisters, Moon Over Miami, Coney Island, Down Argentine Way, Springtime In The Rockies, Sweet Rosie O'Grady,
That Lady In Ermine, The Shocking Miss Pilgrim, The Beautiful Blonde From Bashful Bend...
And she made four movies with pal Dan Dailey, they are one of the greatest team-ups in movie history, and it was their 'Mother Wore Tights' that was Betty's favorite of all her movies. They loved working together and were good friends for the rest of their lives.
" Betty was big...how big is big?...Betty was the biggest! "
    ---Debbie Reynolds
"Comedy is the most difficult of acting tasks. Goodness knows how a star like Betty Grable can make people laugh, cry and set their feet tapping - all in one film. That takes talent."
    --- Ava Gardner
"She was one of the most natural dancers I had ever worked with. She was what I called an intuitive dancer, and always ready to adapt to any new style."
    --- Dan Dailey
"Betty Grable was a funny, outgoing woman, totally professional and easy."
    ---Lauren Bacall
"I had the best of both worlds. A family and a career. And millions of friends all over the world."
    ---Betty Grable
"Somehow I will never be able to believe she is gone... Those beautiful legs, and the pin-up blonde looks,
still dancing and dazzling whenever they show her old wartime movies on the television screen.
Betty Grable was a star, and there will never be another one like her. When she went, they destroyed the mould!"
    --- Diana Dors

Bonnie,I don't know where you got your info about Bettys lifestyle, she was married to Jackie Cogan for 2 years and she divorced him because he was living off her and he was a heavy drinker, she dated George Taft for a while but broke it off because he wouldn't divorce his wife, she dated artie shaw, who left her for Lana turner, dated Victor mature and met Harry James while filming Springtime in the Rockies he was married, unhappily apparently because he was seeing his bands vocalist Helen forrest but he chose Betty and I believe he was the one responsible for her smoking and drinking habits, still she was a beautiful woman and the biggest female box office star of the 1940s,so she made some bad choices in her life, like you havent?

Betty was beautiful & could sing. I could see she was very popular in the 1940s & was mostly in musicals. What's the movie where she has curly hair & in a wedding dress?

I would agree with you 100% in most cases. But I assure you, my mind is not weak, I was just very mad that night that such a negative person would make negative comments about a legend of hollywood. I am normally a very agreeable person, but that night I was upset. I hope anyone who reads that forgives me. But honestly, why would somone go on a fan vid of a star you love and start a battle with the people who appreciate it?

I don't understand what I said wrong. I love Betty Grable. Io say that she is in the top five of any category is a complement.
Here's another example. Take the categories of classical music: Opera, symphonies, piano concertos, chamber mucis, etc. No matter what category you name, Mozart is in the top five.

It is easy to call names in certain situations like this, U39. Especially when you have someone so desperate to be inflammatory and so pitifully vindictive that they go to your channel and leave what's meant to be a scathing comment on their video but which alternately falls will short of its mark. Go throw your elf darts somewhere else. YAWN

Ok Donald. Listen up. During WW2 she was a very big star during the war. She was beautiful, sang and danced and had a great figure and can't forget the legs. This is what made her so popular during this dark time in history. She herself didn't see the big deal about her but she was the biggest female during the 1940s. Peoplewanted to take their minds off the war. Comprende?

@@dpf5939 I said that Betty was Top 5 in every single category. It's a little like say that Mozart is Top 5 in symphonies, operas, pia
no concertos, chamber music, bassoon concertos, etc.

    • @dpf5939

@@beachsideoldman869 OK. At the time I read what you said it seemed like you were demeaning her. Being a fan for so long I got defensive. Fact is she was the top female box office draw of the 1940s. As an actress she was no Bette Davis. The studio put her in movies that would distract from the dark things going on during the war. Especially in technicolor she was beautiful and could sing and dance. That was her niche at the time. And by the early 50s, Monroe took over. It was Alice Faye in the mid 30s to early 40s and then Grable from the early 40s to the early 50s and then Monroe to the late 50s. I know tastes and times have changed but I just like the old hollywood compared to what we have now.

I grew up adoring her and watching all of her movies. Recently I did some research and found out she had affairs with multiple married men while single. She had an affair with married Harry James and got pregnant. He left his wife for her. It makes me respect her less. She was beautiful and talented, but now I have lost interest in her.

OK Bas. Are you perfect? Probably not. Betty met James in one of her movies in 1942. She divorced Jackie Coogan a few years prior. Harry was in a unhappy marriage. She dated like every celebrity dates. She dated Victor Mature,Arty Shaw, who dumped her and married Lana Turner. That didn't last. Nobody is perfect, like you. Look at Elizabeth Taylor or Zsa Zsa Gabor and so ,any others. F U!
