    Dear Ustaza, according our religion İslam the word (nefs-نفس) describes unacceptable intentions and actions of human being. In the dictionary it corresponds to the English word "Soul". I think it doesn't exactly cover the meaning of (nefs-نفس) . I wonder whether any other English word. May Allah bless you.

    • @ArabicKhatawaat
      @ArabicKhatawaat  Рік тому +9

      Thank you for pointing that out. The Arabic word (نفس)Nafs in religious text has multiple degrees (meanings ) of self (soul, intention, ego, spirit...) It occurred to me when I was looking for an example, that in English speaking Contexts, the word “self” might not be perceived in the same layers of meanings as in Arabic.....The beauty of the Arabic language is truly fascinating ☺️

      @@ArabicKhatawaat I have pointing this out for years, with regards to translations of Islamic texts. Muslims should at least understand words like Taqwa, Nafs, زهد etc, in Urdu Translations we leave these words as they are, as Urdu has co opted these terms. Similar example is translating Taqwa with terms like "God-wariness" when we know that Taqwa is a much more vast concept.
