Regarding the torque setting, the correct value is 30 Nm/22 lb-ft - BMW revised it upward because they were seeing plugs backing out at the lower Bentley spec. Also, put the plugs in DRY - explicit instructions from BMW.
Wow! I am commenting on your easy very well directed guide. This video was not about you but the proper way for a DIYer to replace spark plugs. I am impressed. Some people put a dot of dielectric grease into the spark plug boot on the coil pack. I don’t think it’s 100% necessary or called for by BMW, but is common practice. I learned to do it that way at a euro shop I worked at while in college.
shouldn't be, if by "hand tighten" you mean nice and snug with a ratchet? You get the feel for how tight to go with time and experience I guess. Definitely hard to describe without showing you in person. If you have any concerns just use a torque wrench to be sure.
hey Bill, either is fine to be honest depending on price. Bremi is typically a better brand, but the warranty on both is likely the same and I would guess the Bremi could be 20-50% more expensive. Bosch is fine, if you buy from Amazon they'll replace for free if you have any issue with them.
Hey all, I have an issue with a bmw z3 M54 2.2i. It keeps coming up with bank lean codes and misfires. Both banks and single banks, random misfires, but diagnostic says cylinder 5 is troublesome. No obvious vac leaks anywhere... fault has been getting more frequent, although the car hasn’t run much in the last six months... any thoughts??? Thanks.
@@BIMMERZEITT spark plugs are new this year. BMW specialist has checked it over and thought coil pack for cylinder 5 but the engine runs sweet 99% of the time. Engine warning light comes on randomly at around 700 rpm (idle) with lean codes and sensor faults. No smoke test done, and I have bought new O2 sensors but have not fitted them yet. Misfires seem to be linked to the lean codes. ?
@@701jimbo you can swap coil pack cyl 5 with another one like cyl 2. See if the code changes to cyl 2 misfire. You have to smoke test, it’s the only way. Some cracks are hairline thin and impossible to see with your eye.
I torqued them down to 25 nm, is that going to be a problem, also i cracked on of the coils and after two days i had engine light on, is that possibility related?
+Augustinas R. Usually you will have a service engine light with a code present for a misfire on a particular cylinder, or a group of multiple misfires across several cylinders.

That's pretty sweet. I'd have put the oil cap straight back on after removing the cover 😎
For proper spark plug torque spec. On this vehicle always refer to the German torque spec system, known as “Gutentite”

I
great video nice clear sound and vision, but you didn't put the cap back over the rear housing cover bolt- naughty
You videos have helped me a lot 🙏 thank you..
So, did you tight to Bentley's or NGK's recommendation?
from what i've read on forums..the torque should be around 18-22 lbs
What size breaker bar do you use in the video?
Great informative video. Considering changing them on my car now!
Definitely!
Is their something we have to put on the new spark plugs before the installation? Like silicone to prevent the spark to stuck?

So do you think my spark plugs are going to stuck? because i just installed them without anything

What's the name of that fat tube you disconnected from the air filter?
Hey will this work on a bmw e60 530i 2004 with m54 engine
Yes - any M54 engine has the same config.
Great and helpful video Thanks!
what if you just hand tighten it to around 22nm would that be detrimental to the spark plug and performance of the car?

Always Always Always check the gap...even if it's pre set Always double check...
This was a really great video
Hi do you recommend BOSCH or BREMI coil packs for M54B30 engine? that's all that's available where I am. Thanks in advance

How old are coil packs and spark plugs?
Has CCV been replaced?
Have you smoke tested for leaks? It’s essential.

+Kevin Sahib I would suggest scanning the car and finding out what the code(s) are for the check engine light first so you know where to begin.
Great vid :)
How do you know when need to change ignition coils?

@Emil Atanasov That is more likely to be a vacuum leak, IME.
