My boss Alex Norris is the most compassionate and understanding manager I have really ever encountered in my 42 years on the planet. It absolutely impacts my work and my loyalty to the company!

I trying to find my fellow "grandparent parents" out there where I was not long ago.. Frozen solid with fear, and overwhelmed by life's blows.
Found you to listen to in the garden to better communicate and understand my "2nd batch".
Considered a book, but as a busy procrastinator, but seriously I'd like to reach out and teach, hands on, my fellow generation of kinship grandparents my path so far, to show how easy this can be and ease so much despair you can’t imagine. United we Stand, right? I'm not rich or close even, but happier and looking forward to each new day.
I got started, for me, with my "Peruvian tile inspired, custom designed, handcrafted by a German artisan, kitchen floor". My 20 something son complimented that was the fanciest sentence he'd ever read. 😍💫 proudness! Which, fear not, translates to how I painted my kitchen floor I (German decent) couldn't afford to get done my terribly embarrassing kitchen floor.. SO, armed with my grandson's acrylic paints as tint. A bunch of 6" stencils masking taped together making a large 18x18 stencil. (custom design) And lots of colors are high hiding! Which i realized soon in, was gonna be needed here! (search the tiles if need be, they seem much but that'sjust what I did) A ton of scrap white tones (cheap paint base) and of course the floor sealer, which, was the money pit. But all said, about $100? And lots of trial, error, backache (that felt great, I'll explain) when getting back up (each night) and time. Which to be honest, was a few months (that flies by).
I'm about to redo my redo now. Knowing what I know now. And lots of leftover supplies! Thinking retro 50s kitchen. Yellow flowers and such... I'm going for under $60 this time! (seriously)
Sorry for the book here, but if your still reading this and listening to the info here, do contact me! I'm not a crafter/diy, well, wasn't. I was a corporate bean counter. Not a gardener, we all are now. Kids barely need me. One loves the watering, care and harvesting, got my on the money composter kid that can instinctively add the right amounts of brown to greens and have them on hand, and even my young Gordon Ramsey who can sort and dry everything as needed.
I was willing to consider my first month of plant caretaker, a success if we could avoid a plant genocide. (decades of history of plant killing screaming at my brain, "don't you dare"!) But hey prices up, doctors retiring and bad Medicare "coverage" swatted those and said, "do it". Just do it.
Startlingly, yea, we did. Are doing it, holy cow chips!! (what don't we have to do if we want it though, right?) DON'T BE SCARED! Well, a bit scared, but move! You can do anything you want, and make everything you need! (within reason there, Rumplestilskin)
Now I'm pottery without a kiln, understanding the earth, and what's offered, my flowers are pressing(literally) baskets woven (weeds are great for so much, good thing they're abundant)
Now I'm I needed some clay, for something in the yard, eh hem, so I'm finding where it's closest. (though I am resigned and inclined to think possibly Fairmount Park if my childhood memories are at all dependable)grandmom. I'm a dang life is HARD Grandmom.
Taking on next biggest task, day is young though. Taking on life for so near to free it's staggering and I can even afford mostly free.
Contact me if you'd like to give it a try. Nothing to lose....the world to gain. Here, of all places. All walks of life welcome, except outright mean. Openly discriminate against mean!!
Oh, you should see what I've just started with digital art! (fancy name, shhh) Grandparents, you know we can, and will, do anything. Are already most of us. Why not have fun and improve everything? I'm not even Willy Wonka. No golden ticket, but everything I just mentioned is clinically proven to reduce stress, anxiety, ptsd, depression, trauma behaviors, even RADS! Seriously, look it up! It's all literally good good for what ails ya. At least, better for than bad for. Stamina and outlook, self-worth, knowledge, all go up. Look it up! As well as your grandkids, when they're doing it all with you! Hand to God, won't be hard at all, mostly.
Most of mine caved at painting on floor. Older, well, withheld fully till was eating from the yard and showing off what "we'd grown"... 😒 hmmm

I think this video is invaluable to all leaders and should be compulsory for leaders to watch. There are so few leaders (bosses) have enough compassion.

Agreed! I think compassion should be a key measure of leadership readiness.

Thanks Alex. I m a speech coach based in Lyon, France (no kiddin'). Great video, as always. The latest Summer 2019 issue of the Harvard Business Review on 'How to become a fearless speaker' offers invaluable insights into how to project warmth rather than strength when you want to connect and lead effectively. I thought this might interest you. Keep up the good work !

I find that, as a supervisor, I'm in a good position to help the people I work with. Sometimes, it's just helping them with something small like putting them in touch with the right person. So, helping people network is one way we can help them by connecting them to people with the answers they need.

    What is leadership?
In the broader context of: servant leadership, authentic leadership, conscious leadership, empathetic leadership, collaborative leadership, courageous leadership, confident leadership, 5 levels of leadership, situational leadership, 48 laws of power, 21 irrefutable laws of leadership, 21 indispensable qualities of leadership ... or just check 5-7 characteristics of any of just listed "leaderships", find any not already listed characteristic and start a new trend i.e. style.
Why are we beating around the bush?

What about if the company where I work is going through a rough re-organization and I need to fire people. How to act compassionate in that case?
