Thoughts on the Rio? Would you stay or play here?
I’m so grateful to both of you for making quality videos like you used to. Thanks for adding the slot machines videos you guys really stepped 🆙 it really feels like Vegas to the viewer. Good luck
Hope the new owners grow a brain and reopen the Sea Food Buffett.... only reason I ever went there
Never. The new owners need to give people a compelling reason for why they would want to venture out there. If they do that, we'll see.
Absolutely not , regrettably.
YES ... I ❤ CATS 🐈
I remember back in the day the Rio used to have an amazing buffet.
Jimmy Buffet
The Best in the late 90s
It was called the carnival world buffet it was the best went there in 1998
...do you know if that Indian restaurant is still there? I ate in there back in 2012...
Yes, they different food stations from different countries if I remember right.
That’s just depressing. I used to love their buffet and the vibe of the whole casino. Once they’ve completed the renos they need to bring back the free shuttle from the Strip. That will bring the crowds back in and hopefully the Rio will once again be a fun experience. Thanks for the update. I enjoy your videos
It's terrible how Caesars ran the place into the ground after they sold the property and leased it back for a few years. Another vlogger just did a video on the Rio and the pools were closed ( door chain locked) , only the sports book food court was open and the rooms hadn't had any kind of remodel since the early 2000s. I am looking forward to seeing what the new owners do now that Caesars is gone. Would be nice to see the place become as popular as it used to be.
Hi Derek and Catherine! That was so sad to see. The entire Masquerade section, dead. I used to go to the Rio in its heyday and boy, I hope they can resurrect it. There’s a lot to work with and it’s not that old. 🤞 Glad you won!
Joe
As a person with a big family the Rio is our go to hotel, the rooms are big, free parking, and close to grocery store/fast food at regular prices, its also close to the strip so you can walk or just drive a couple of minutes and park at palazzo (when they had free parking)
Derek and Catherine, thank you for updating us on the RIO. We have many great memories of the resort. The buffets were awesome. Some of the best in Vegas.
We also really enjoyed the Sky Float parades. It made for such a great atmosphere. Cesar's should have taken care of it better. We're hoping the new owners restore it and make it a desired Vegas destination. The property has so much potential. Please keep us posted on the renovations. Also congrats on the WIN!!
As always, sending luv to you both. Luv your videos. Keep them coming!!
I was there during their best time. It was a blast. 👍 glad they are bringing it back to life.
The Rio is in Transition after years of neglect from Caesars, It will get better, I hope it comes back to all it's former glory!, Great video Dereck and Katherine!
The Rio in its heyday was fantastic. The overhead show was amazing, high energy, beads flying everywhere, dancers, just a complete blast. We returned maybe ten years later and the place looked much like you see it now but still some signs of life, but barely so. Now, it just looks like the end is near. We renewed our vows for our 10th, 20th and 30th anniversaries in Vegas. The 30th at the Palms across the street (February 2023) was really pretty darned nice...the restaurant treated us like royalty and the food was out of this world. We WOULD return there but overall, the cost of visiting Vegas has just gotten obscene.
GREAT VIDEO, I remember when Rio was the place to be. I hope they restore it to its former glory. Makes me sad.
great channel, as always putting every effort into giving us a look at whats good in vegas and beyond, thanks derek and catherine
I love that you aren't trying to hit the big progressive numbers, just win the bonus to get back to or above your initial buy in. It's an achievable goal that I think I'll try on my next trip to Vegas.
I'm already pissed at MGM, and now I guess I'm pissed at Caesars !!!! I didn't realize it was a Caesars property ?? How could they let it go down hill like that ?? Used to have 2 of the best buffets in town with Carnival & Seafood Buffets. Then they closed them. Used to be cool to see trams rolling around the top of casino with people throwing down plastic beads that couldn't have cost much money. Yes, used to be a place I'd always go to, then they take away all the neat stuff. Someone tell me how this was good business.
I used to really like the Rio. I remember catching the Harrah's shuttle to the Rio and walking across the street to the Gold Coast....good times indeed!
I hope it is brought back to life soon. Thanks for sharing the walk-through 👍
They had to complete a final audit of all the machines before handing it over to the new owners. I sure enjoyed the RIO back in the day with the show in the sky floats and both awesome buffets going it was a ton of fun if the new owners can capture any of the excitement the place used to have it will do well Caesars really dropped the ball with regards to the RIO very sad. But hey keep us posted you guys looks like they are trying to revive it to some of its former glory. 🙂
When I first started to go to Vegas I stayed at The Rio a few times. It used to have the best Seafood Buffet, a bus to the Strip that ran regularly plus I liked the vibe. Hopefully they can rebound.
Years ago it was a georgeous property , sad to hear its gone downhill . Hopefully it will be brought back to its former glory .
I stayed at the The RIO maybe 5-6 years ago not by choice but it's where the guys (not me) chose to go for the annual SuperBowl game. It was okay but I wouldn't do it again although it wasn't all that bad then.
That looks sad. Just like MGM properties when they got hacked! Hope new owners bring it back to life.
So cool when you just walk about...love you guys ..
The outside of the Rio is so beautiful. The inside has so much potential but i feel like its just promise after promise this place is gettung refurbished. Time will tell... look at Fontainebleau, never thought id see the day that it opened. Here it comes
Penn & Teller need to leave the Rio ASAP!
Unfortunately I’ve read that they have extended their residency until 2026 🤦🏾♂️
they had the best buffets in the 90s at $28
Bring back the seafood buffet. They will come.
Sad. Used to go there for that famous buffet. Reminds me of those vids of people walking around in dead malls.
I stayed there with my family years ago. Great casino, buffet etc. The big drawback was its distance from the strip.
Wow I pray the owner revive that place most definitely giving Ghost Town😂
Hyatt purchased the hotel and the hotel is in transition right now
Wow, you’re so lucky!! 🍾
Use your Rio rewards card so you can give us a renovation room tour
Please do more food videos they're the best 😊
I live across the street. Use to go a lot but haven’t been there in years.
Nice 👍🏽 Win
Thanks!
I think this is gonna happen to all non-strip casinos in Vegas, particularly those are not right next-door to the Bellagio or across from it.
Man I remember the last time I was in Rio. This is just weird and quirky seeing a sad trail of broken slot machines
And with that 61 dollar slot win the Rio sign will remain off for another two weeks at least. I hope you feel good about yourself.
Is the Rio back? That was my favorite resort and the Carnival buffet was amazing
They shouldve put the baseball stadium there instead.
Play a silver strike at the plaza. Those silly things are fun
Looks like Primm. 😂
I hope the new owners fix Rio since Caesar’s neglected it for years!
Also, what about the tables?
I lived there when the Rio opened, we had some great times there.
Who bought them from Ceasars?
Hello Derek & Catherine 😊
I remember the rio being a cool place with the live show on the stage and the shy show at the same time. The winery downstairs, and the two buffets. The seafood was the best in town at the time and started to go down. It was better to demo and build the baseball stadium there and not where the trop is. That location is prime for a better casino. Makes me wonder when the Fountain opens and exactly how that place will do. The spa was hopes and dreams but location. Fountain is right there. Idk. Any opinions?
The Rio was the first hotel I stayed at when I visited Las Vegas in 2000. I don't remember much about the place... most of my memory is loaded with going to Crazy Horse and staying from about 9pm to 8am. 😵😵🎉🎉
I love this story! You should do a storytime on the channel of what you DO remember Ken😂
@@vegastocali 🤣😂
The busted open slot machines did it for me 😊
Didn’t the Rio host the World Series Of Poker every year. I know it move to the Paris this year.
Penn and teller?
I dont know why im not getting notifications
Wow, very post apocalyptic feeling.😮 Stay safe you two ❤❤❤
...you think it will get rebranded Derek?...
Doubt it!
why even leave it open till they get it back in good condition
Seems like a front....
Surely living on borrowed time now sadly :(
Is this what it was like during the height of the pandemic?
These brightly lit and well programmed slots machines are all the proof you need...capitalism works.
Profit motive is best and un-ending.
And healthy for society.
I know it can get expensive for you, but I am loving these slot play videos! Keep them coming❤
I would not stay. Because its sad and run down and bad location.
This place has been so run down and neglected over the years that I have no interest in going back even after the remodel. It's obviously off strip so it takes a bit of effort to get over there. I don't think the projected $350M is enough to transform.
