Ahahahha! That one is actually the one that I use personally (it was my "first attempt") but I could work on making some more for the shop, if you're interested! 😇💖
I’m here for the sea shell necklace. My Dad said I can get the shells! So yay for that. Thank you for making these videos, you make such amazing aesthetic crafts! ♥️
Put a piece of wood under the sponge. 3 inches long, 1/2 thick. Use a masonry drill bit instead of a regular bit & a battery operated drill. It’s safer than using an electric drill in water. It took me less than 5 seconds to drill the holes.
Any chance you could give me the make/model of the drill and bit you used? I am a total beginner and am trying to figure out what to buy for my first project
Lol. I'm glad I I usually scroll through comments before watching a video. I won't bother with this one at all. Drilling in reverse would have driven me crazy.
A couple of comments: 1. I'm sure its been mentioned, but, please be safe with water and electricity. There are cordless drills on the market that are better suited for this work. 2. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Your work is beautiful. I work with glass, and glaziers use diamond coated drill bits. They may be more effective for drilling through glass. Happy Crafting!!
Florida Mermaid here. You are working with a scallop shell. They would be a pair to hold the tasty little scallop. Nice work. Thanks for todays lesson. 🧜♀️
*CAUTION* Please note that there are several different types of drill bits for woodworking, metal, masonry, and also multi purpose bits. I'd imagine a masonry bit intended for tile or porcelain would likely work best for shells but I don't know for sure. I urge you all to make sure you're at least using a multi purpose bit and probably definitely not one made for wood. Wood is obviously a much softer material and using a wood bit would not only be more likely to crack your shell but more importantly, more dangerous. By which I mean the bit would slip around on the shell much more and could cause serious injury.
Hi!!! Using a diamond burr drill bit, will be a big help in this method. It goes thru smoother and faster with less slippage. Thank u so much for your tutorials!
Thank you so much! I don't know that much about drills, so I just used what my dad had on hand. This is very helpful! Ooohhhh... and you are totally welcome! Thanks for watching ♥
I am glad I saw this, now I can work on making sea witch charms, necklaces, and so many oceanic witchy stuff :D especially with staffs, wands and broom charms
I'm glad that you found this helpful! I hope all of your crafts turn out as you wish them to. It sounds like you have many magical projects underway! ♥
I'm glad you found a way to work with your creativity even without a hole! I'm super glad you found this helpful too! 😊 Thank you so much for watching!
Holy crow my voice is so annoying in this video! Please feel free to check out my newer videos. Here's one for my mermaidcore fashionistas: ua-cam.com/video/ufW8xNVhVt8/v-deo.html
I have drilled through many of these sea shells without all these supplies and had great success. Drill(not in reverse)😂+shell= 👍 Although I give you points for the staging /aesthetics aspect to the video🐚🐚🐚🐚🐚
Thanks for the video. Good information, especially the safety aspect. I use a dremel. It's easier than a big drill for delicate applications, and there is a wide variety of bit for different sizes of holes.
I'm glad you found it useful! Also, thank you for the tips! I had no idea where to start, since I literally knew NOTHING about machine thingies until I asked my dad about them 😅😂 A dremel sounds much easier to use for sure! ♥
Thank youuuuu! I think I'm going to do the lighter colored one first (right after I get over this cold I was so graciously given 😑) and then I will do a tutorial for the Goth one too. Thanks so much for watching! 💜✨
Thank you. I tried without water as I am a novice, this makes much more sense and ease. Im sure you have been informed that your shells are scallop shells but in case ... :)
Thank you soooooo much for this video! Like you, I had no idea what, where or how and I have 150 oyster shells that need holes (for my daughter’s wedding). You’re a lifesaver 😍🎉🦪
I just found your video today! I have a bunch of seashells and have been wanting to make necklaces with them for forever! I can't wait to see the tutorial for it!
Wow Amazing...Oceans are one of the wonderful place in the world. Where there a lot of 😍 beautiful shells 🐚!!! Which i have millions of collections too 😊. This was a great video. So inspiring.
The Magic Crafter Hey, Phantom? Whenever you have time, can we talk? I have some news I really wanna share with you! I'm really so excited to tell you. 😊
🎉Sincerely Thank you for sharing! Now I’ll let you know one thing I want to make an sell with one of my Abalone Shells I’ll make the hole first, I plan to sell them. I’m making Lamps. Wish I was more Computer Savvy. I would send a you a picture on this utube channel of one of the ones I made they are beautiful . Maybe next time.
Thank you so much! And sadly, I do not the size of the bit I used. Mine was about the same diameter of a shish-kabob stick. Also... thank you! I don't know much about shells yet, I'm still learning! 😅✨
Oh yay!! ♥ Do you know what fabric tail-maker you'd like to go with yet? That's very exciting! And Lake Michigan is my absolute favorite place to go! 😇
You don't need water for cooling if you're taking that many breaks between short bouts of drilling. You'll get less slippage with the bit on a dry shell and it will be easier to handle.
Excuse me. I make videos that help people. What do you do aside from helping adding to the bitterness and decay of society? TYSM for this tutorial. I've been searching for the proper method of drilling holes in seashells.
Your drill is in reverse, that's why it took so long to make the hole. Also, most of the times electrical equipment and water don't go so well along.
You're right. I can see it spinning the other way.
Lol. I'm glad I I usually scroll through comments before watching a video. I won't bother with this one at all. Drilling in reverse would have driven me crazy.
Diego Barragán it’s cordless dumbass
@@lillily1 You can still fry a cordless drill with water, dumbass.
That's what I was thinking 🤔 is reversed.

Its a diamond drill bit that you're supposed to use.. on something like a dremel.
Diamond drill bit is used for efficiently drilling shells.
Hello northern Michigander mermaid. I’m a southern Fl mermaid myself🧜🏼♀️⚓️Thank you for your wonderful video so very helpful.💖🧜🏼♀️⚓️
Awesome
You could have explained all this in 3 minutes! That's 8:39 minutes of my life I will never get back!!!
Somebody certainly put on their complain-y pants of judgment today!😂😂😂 Good bye!!
You can double tap to fast forward through UA-cam videos if you need to.
How'd you get 8.39 minutes out of 3 minutes? It's the best 3 minutes I've had in a long time!

The Magic Crafter a Dremel was my first "power tool". It is less intimidating than a full sized drill.
Thanks again for your imaginative video.
The Magic Crafter I love you craft. I would love to know how to make both necklaces. Thanks so much. Email
Wow, that's all that's needed is water and a sponge! Awesome, thanks!!
I loveeee both of the necklaces. But I really love the gothic one.🖤💜

The Magic Crafter Awesome!
I'm so sorry about your cold, Phantom.😕 I hope you get better soon.
Thank you for this video. I use a dremel tool with diamond bits. I find a dremel easier to work with than a drill. Smaller & lighter
Very pretty necklaces!
Gothic all the way! It's girgeous!
i once drilled a hole in a seashell with a knife, it took me a hole day to finish it loll
VN thug I see what you did there
Thank you. I tried without water as I am a novice, this makes much more sense and ease. Im sure you have been informed that your shells are scallop shells but in case ... :)
I have been wanting to make one for ages and know I can give it have a present for my friend thank u lots
That is A LOT of work for just one shell.
Ayyyy Michigan!!! ❤️
Yes yes yes!! There is not better place in the world! ;)
Soooooooo useful thankyou, because I love to make seashelll necklaces!!!!!! 💙
I am so glad you found it useful! Once you get the technique down, there is no limit to what you can make! ✨
Love them both. Want to learn to make them both to send as gifts.
Awwww!! Thank hun!!
Smart process!
Thank you soooooo much for this video! Like you, I had no idea what, where or how and I have 150 oyster shells that need holes (for my daughter’s wedding). You’re a lifesaver 😍🎉🦪
did you have it drilling counterclockwise initially? is that why it wasn't doing too well?
I have no clue how a drill works, only how to use one for specific tasks... so it's possible! 😅🙃
I noticed the drill motor was running backwards. This will cause a much longer time drilling as the bits are made to cut when running clockwise.
Thank you so much. I have wanted to do this for yonks. Now I can xxxx
Sure thing, Kris! ♥
Oh wow ❤
That’s a great idea. I’m definitely going to make it.
Thank you!!! Awesome!
Thank-you!
I would love a tutorial for the gothic necklace 😍😍😍

Love that blue one you call gothic.
This is very nice! That is a scallop shell I believe.
Thank you! 😊
Is that what it's called? Oh my gosh, thank you! ♥

Thanks for this advice.... I was always wondering on this.... how about sea glass holes?
ok its only snagging on shells that are too thin
tysm for this !!

The Magic Crafter Glad to be of service :)
Hello, what kind of bit did you use, for wall, for wood?
An electric drill and water? YIKES!
You don't stick the battery in the water. 😆😅
OK, if it isn't electric, water isn't a problem. Battery operated isn't electric.
It's charged by an electrical outlet though 😆 Mermaids don't mix well with tech stuff😅
Did anyone see when the drill ripped the sponge? *RIP SPONGE 😭*
After a few days in rehab, he recovered well 😆
The Magic Crafter lol! Tell him he did very well ♥️ 😂
the blind leading the blind. a 1 minute video stretched out to 8 plus minutes. thank you

Good
Woot woot Michigan I'm in rose lake township.
Michigan *is* where all of the awesome people are! 😝😘
The Magic Crafter I live on a private lake so I have been finding a lot of pretty snail shells that are this pretty green color I came here looking for ideas on how to make them into jewelry.
The Magic Crafter the shells smell bad so I'm soaking them in vinegar and sparkling water
The Magic Crafter the shells I cave are the conch shaped shells
Those are a bit different than the shell I used here. Hmmm... How big are they?
when you drill the wrong way lol. Will go faster if it's not in reverse
lol
Which drill machin u have used from where I can buy?
What size is the drill bit? Does it work on all shells?
I know the water is to help reduce heat from friction but doesn't it also eliminate any dust that might kick up?
Would you ever consider providing some consult for different tools I should get to make shell jewelry? I would send you photos and explain what I’m trying to do.
I would like to see the one with the white pearls
Perfect! I will be finishing up the video series with that tutorial as soon as I beat this cold! 😅
Beautiful thank you . New subscriber 👍❤
Thank you so much, Donna! ♥ Welcome to the Magic Crafter family! 💖😊✨
What about the abrasive dust? Does the water take care of that danger?
I am not sure. In theory, it should minimize the dust from the shell. However, it is always best to be extra safe just in case! ♥
What mermaid powers do u have
I used a glass bit with water and some sponge it took some time lol but I made holes without breaking the shell.
I would use a diamond tip drill bit
Good tip! Thanks
Would a mussel shell be too fragile for a drill?
I’m in Florida and would love to make some shell jewelry. Help
Hi there!
Please check out this playlist. I think you'll find it very useful. :)

Ive made a lot of different things with sea shells and the drilling of holes is better if you use a self tapping screw or self drilling screw and you will want to use one that is hex head and you can purchase them in any size you wish to and they last longer and are sharper than a drill bit just give it a try and let me know what you think sincerely Barry
If you put the drill in reverse it will pull out easier.
It took you so long time, because the drill was going counterside..... :))
Oh, really!?! Thank you! I'm still learning all of the time too 😅
Claudio what does counter side mean? I’m learning as well :)
Don't be shy bought some more 😅😂😂😂😂
Woohoo!! Sounds like you're ready for lots of shell crafts!
The Magic Crafter ya I am😂🤣
Scallop shell😁
Thank you!
How do you make the gothic looking necklace?
Hey Jennie! I'm hoping to finish the tutorial for these necklaces soon... but I've been limited on time. I'll try to get the tutorial for both necklaces up this summer/early fall. ♥
Omg I didnt know it takes a long time to drill. Thought it was only gonna be a second
She had the drill going backwards
Is there a way to make the hole without a drill?
Hmmm... not really that I know of? I suppose you could try carefully creating a hole with an ice-pick, but I'm not sure if that would work or not?
Use a strong metal and scrape it or with small hammer taps
Be sure drill is in forward when maki g hole.
What about using a porcelain drill bit or a diamond tip?
I've heard someone else suggest that before too. I'm certainly not an authority on drilling, but you could always try it and see how it goes! 😀
She rambled like other ppl.... I lost interest quick even tho it's something I really wanted to learn
I use a Dremel drill. Much easier.
Thanks for the tip! :)
i panicked and water went everywhere my dremel is actually p big but im learning to use it now
also using a container instead of a plate lmaoo
Use a cordless drill ! So you won't get electrocuted
