I read somewhere that there's some great symbolism associated with Bucky's arm and by extension Bucky's personality. In the beginning, he keeps it hidden from the general public for the most part and uses it to hurt or kill people, or in the case of his personality, he struggles with knowing what he did and his continued Avenger work is his way of letting it all out. Starting with the scenes with him and Sam fixing the boat however, he shows his arm and his powers off just to help, and he even lets those kids use his arm like a pull up bar while he's chatting up Sam's sister in a kind of like "oh these kids? Yeah that's nothing, I once almost ripped Iron Man's arc reactor out of his suit." I like to think they were trying to portray that symbolically honestly cause it fits with Bucky's arc in the show
There's also a little scene after Bucky acted as the winter soldier, on their way back in the plan, he was cleaning his metal hand with a napkin. It showed how much he didn't like hurting people, thought it was dirty and wanted to make it clean. All the little details in this show are really just awesome.
Super late comment, but I thought that it was also a nice parallel to those same kids playing with the Shield earlier in the show. That scene was put there to show that despite Walker's actions, the Shield hadn't lost its meaning and Steve's legacy was still in tact. Them hanging off of Bucky's arm like that could be seen in the same vein. The Winter Soldier did terrible things, but that doesn't have to mean that Bucky Barnes must be as well.
HEAD CANON: Bucky and Sam being at the end credit scene of Hawkeye with the full version of the Rogers Musical. With the camera panning out to these duo with the most annoyed looks on their faces when the actor Steve sings "I can do this all DAAAAAYYYYYY. 😂😂😂
As someone who’s been in and out of therapy, I know how Bucky feels when his therapist grads her pen. It feels like you said something wrong and it’s just kinda like “I’m about to end up in the physc ward, aren’t I?”
I think his reaction also relates to the fact that a notebook was used to read out his trigger words, thus he uses anger to hide his fear of seeing a notebook.
I still maintain that him yelling “stop the car” was purely for the dramatics. He’s a super soldier. He literally could have just jumped out while it was moving. I love him.
