I was so amused because Mitra is like one of the prominent deities mentioned in our Vedas. Even we in Karnataka celebrate our new year,next month.We call it Ugādi/Yugādi.Ādi in Sanskrit means start.Yuga in Sanskrit means "a yoke" (joining of two things), "generations", or "a period of time" such as an age. In this context it is 'start of a new age/period. Even in Avestan(Persian's parent language), the word is similar. It's 'Yuua'. It cognates with Sanskrit word 'Yuga'
