I like the song, but something is really... weird/off... with the vocal production at a recording of this level. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks.
Emm Rouse its not a production issue. She is an alto, whereas most female fronted bands tend to have sopranos. So her vocals sound bassy and not as piercing as a soprano would. If you need a better example its like the difference between andy black and kellin quinn.
Will Davis I don't think thats what it is as I'm a fairly darkly coloured mezzo myself. So I'd be placed in alto choir parts...
I feel like theres a compression or tuning artifacts I just can't quite put my finger on which on it is tbh...
Emm Rouse i guess i should explain more. The frequency and timbre she is singing in falls in that sweet zone that causes resonance which can cause what you are hearing. Whereas a high c will cause a piercing tone, the low c will cause a resonant tone, which depending on mic, or even after production issues with speakers or headphones.
So dude, got a second opinion.
Shes pressing down on her larynx in places technique wise, so that's what I am hearing so that's making the tone sound strange (y) Probably coupled with your points above and super heavy compression. Team work
