Early Pastels gigs to late 80s where packed out. In the 90's until speeding motorcycle cover and then the gigs where brilliant but had lost a lot of their audience although I attended all I could. Seems now that they are starting to get new fans which is braw! I ❤ them.
Provokatie, thanks-I was in high school when I use to request this by telephone at my friendly neighborhood college radio station-couldn't get enough of that foreign moody stuff in sunny Cali.
I'm 21 and absolutely love the so-called post smiths indie scene. It's worthy of the name 'indie' for a start not like the current creme of the NME's crap...
She comes walking down the road And I know that dogs won't bark She comes walking up the stairs She's tap-tap-tapping on my door And she'll make those tears to know that it's a must But I go blind and my mouth fills up with dust Says she's open like a book She's got everything I need Even wants to take the time To teach me how to read But the ceiling moves on down towards the floor And soon there's only room enough for us to crawl I wanna build her up Up as tall as a church Just to watch her Just to watch her falling down I can't see her again I just can't see her again I've got to see her again I've got to see her again She comes walking down the road With a kaftan in her hands She comes walking up the stairs She's tap-tap-tapping on my door And she'll make those tears to know that it's a must But I go blind and my bones start to rust I wanna build her up Up as tall as a church Just to watch her Just to watch her falling down I can't see her again I just can't see her again I've got to see her again I've got to see her again
I wanna build her up Up as tall as a church Just to watch her Just to watch her falling down I can't see her again I just can't see her again I've got to see her again I've got to see her again
Yea it kinda does sound like kids in the hall theme song.. in fact that bamds name is called Shadowy men on a shadowy planet... they have a Surf sound to them..
When Pavement played reading festival then 2 band members wore Pastels t-shirts. Stephen Malkmus is on record saying that he is a big fan! I kinda remember a gig in either Edinburgh or Glasgow when Stephen Pastel got on stage to do Speeding Motorcycle! Teenage fanclub cover Yo la tengos instrumental I hear you looking so maybe confused with that instead the night after Yo la tengo played at same small venue in Edinburgh. Getting old
in fact you're the perfect age, just remember what bob dylan said "i was so much older then, but im younger than that now". the pastels are one of my favourite bands but theres no need for nostalgia
At the end of the song you can see Frances and Eugene kissing each other.. wow both bands amazing. by the ways the vaselines they going to show up at this month to play here in toronto ill be the for sure.
Wow anything that's been on UA-cam for 18 years and still gets love is amazing. I've loved them since the 80s.

I'm 12 and in love with obscure indie bands 80's and 90's
This is not an obscure indie band
congratulations.
@@buster3903 it is if you're 12, christ give the kid a break
@@buster3903 don't be a dick
Who gives a fuck
I first saw this video back in FEB 1988 on the USA network. Great song! Thanks for posting it.
I like this version more than the version on the "up for a bit with the pastels"
So great... Makes me sad that no one makes music this perfect anymore. Not to mention Stephen Pastel is beautiful!!!
Doesn't get much better than this.
Nope
The Pastels, so underrated, so wonderfull, and Steven Pastel so handsome
definitely
I remember this on the Shelter (music compilation) video. Played it all the time on my VHS player.
ça, c'était un super groupe.
La meilleure période des labels indies britanniques
Top ten indie song. Heard it about 35 times so far yet its mysteries continue to reveal upon new listenings.
will never stop loving this great band
*sigh* why'd i have to ever get old? GREAT SONG!
what is it with scotland and bands with great pop sensibilities....
I first heard this song back in 1988. And I still love it.
One of my all time favorite songs!
When I first fell in love with Frances McKee, nothing has changed.
Provokatie,
thanks-I was in high school when I use to request this by telephone at my friendly neighborhood college radio station-couldn't get enough of that foreign moody stuff in sunny Cali.
wow - now this takes me back! good call paul!
I bow to the beauty of this song.
Francis Mckee from the Vaselines at 1:59 And again at 3:07 kissing Eugene Kelly. How cute :)
I'm 21 and absolutely love the so-called post smiths indie scene. It's worthy of the name 'indie' for a start not like the current creme of the NME's crap...
Best pop song ever.
this is a decent bit faster than the original version I really like it!! idk if its just spend up or what but I prefer it :) amazing song
She comes walking down the road
And I know that dogs won't bark
She comes walking up the stairs
She's tap-tap-tapping on my door
And she'll make those tears to know that it's a must
But I go blind and my mouth fills up with dust
Says she's open like a book
She's got everything I need
Even wants to take the time
To teach me how to read
But the ceiling moves on down towards the floor
And soon there's only room enough for us to crawl
I wanna build her up
Up as tall as a church
Just to watch her
Just to watch her falling down
I can't see her again
I just can't see her again
I've got to see her again
I've got to see her again
She comes walking down the road
With a kaftan in her hands
She comes walking up the stairs
She's tap-tap-tapping on my door
And she'll make those tears to know that it's a must
But I go blind and my bones start to rust
I wanna build her up
Up as tall as a church
Just to watch her
Just to watch her falling down
I can't see her again
I just can't see her again
I've got to see her again
I've got to see her again
I wanna build her up
Up as tall as a church
Just to watch her
Just to watch her falling down
I can't see her again
I just can't see her again
I've got to see her again
I've got to see her again
I think the winning lyric in this song is pretty clearly "even wants to take the time to teach me how to read."
I love this song, I love the Pastels, I love this video. Thanks.
love the outro
great song! thanks for posting this, it's probably very rare
kOOL sONG!!....I think they were a very very lost band from the 80's indie movement. They sounds like:
Galaxie 500 + The jesus and mary chain.
Thanks for uploading this.
god he’s beautiful
the Pastels are amazing, brilliant song
Yea it kinda does sound like kids in the hall theme song.. in fact that bamds name is called Shadowy men on a shadowy planet... they have a Surf sound to them..

I've got to see her again
oh Lordof the Things, dreamy Heaven again n again .........melt....prrrrr
The slow version is on "Up for a bit with The Pastels". If you want this version, it's on "Truckload of Trouble"

full of wonder !!
She even wants to take the time to teach me how to eat. Or is it 'read'? Greatest song ever written IMO. Bass guitar!

It's 80/90s video tech

Doesn't anyone else think that this sounds and looks like the Kids In The Hall opening theme?
How did I miss/ignore them when they were releasing this
in fact you're the perfect age, just remember what bob dylan said "i was so much older then, but im younger than that now". the pastels are one of my favourite bands but theres no need for nostalgia
Why not?
Loving this =]
filmed in lovely glasgow!
is this some of the only footage of the vaselines when they were young?
Killer indie psych pop....❤
@aledsd The girl at 1:59 is Frances McKee from The Vaselines.
Who cares? They were shite as well...
90's? more like 80's! this was released 1986
too good
You can find them in SongMeanings.
Just to watch her

Anyone any idea where the video was filmed?
Is it Glasgow? Or is it der Eiserne Steg in Frankfurt am Main?
i know your post is 11 years old now, and you probably have your answer by now, but that is Glasgow. On one of the bridges over the Clyde.
I think it might.
so that's why they call it anarack pop
ME RECUERDA AL AÑO 96
Please, I need the lyrics, anyone can help me? Not in Google, :S.
i want to build her up.. up as tall as a church.. just to watch her.. just to watch her falling down.
Definitely not obscure for anybody of 40 plus.
True
umm... this came out in the mid 80s @xsultrysongstress79x
最高
I asked for no age. As long as we agree we like it, i couldn't care less about how old you are.
PERÚ - MACHU PICCHU
don't cover this song, play it badly and make a new one, c'mon!
I love this song, I love the Pastels, I love this video. Thanks.
