A minor correction: In modern Tetris, ex tetrio / jstris , or ppt 1 or 2 (many other games as well) you are not guaranteed to get a piece after 7 peices, there is a bag system where all 7 pieces are in that bag, and you randomly take pieces out until the next bag (this is the most simple way to explain or imagine this), so while yes you do get and I piece every 7 lines (on average), you can get it anywhere from no no drought in pieces to a 12 piece drought.
The diagrams where you show the hypothetical options for where to drop something, I've honestly never seen anything so helpful and informative in any other Tetris video, I understood exactly what you were talking about
I mean come on, the fact you pushed DMJ, who had been using DAS the entire time to switch to rolling? That talks a lot about his confidence both in his own DAS, and his confidence in YOU to pull it off within 3 games. Either way, if I were in your shoes, heck yeah I would be proud to have even done that.
Wow your Tetris skills have just gotten so much better over the last couple years, you should be really proud! Also, no one can make a Tetris match sound more exciting than Scout lol

The fact that you had to force DMJ to roll after he was trying to make it fair by playing DAS style is actually hilarious to me because had he stayed DAS, you would have beat him no doubt about it. The fact that he had to switch to rolling... can't say I blame him. If I could roll I would probably do it too. Just not sure how I feel about it lol.
Yes! Scout absolutely bested me in the first 2 games. I thought the switch might be controversial when thinking about it afterwards, but I don't think AtKoster, who was waiting for the winner, would have felt as good about winning if I didn't use rolling when I was on the brink of elimination. Plus, I think Scout did want a shot to beat me when I'm rolling, so I had to have some respect for them. The real question is: was it disrespectful to even the playing field in the first place?
This just proves how absolutely superior rolling is to DAS and even HT. Since the CTWC has already gone in and made fundamental changes to the game with the Super Killscreen, maybe it's time to buff DAS by upping its speed to closer match modern.
We’ve known rolling is superior to the other playstyles for about two years now - a non-roller hasn’t won the CTM masters event since January 2022. There has never been a serious push to buff DAS though because it would take away from what makes DAS special - playing within its current limitations. The rolling meta is currently the most accessible the top of the scene has been to the average person in a long time, as long as they are willing to put in the hours - not everyone can be a fast hypertapper, but nearly everyone can master rolling with enough practice.
14:17 What if you put Z vertical in columns 4 and 5 and S vertical in columns in 6 and 7? That creates 3 rows of garbage but allows you to stack up a right well.
At 220 lines, I can only burn one line if I want to get all 3 of my final tetrises before 29. Looking back, the one other possible move might’ve been setting the Z horizontal on columns 8 9 and 10 and hoping that I could skim the one line of garbage up top.
@@pineapplewhatever5906 Oh I see what you mean now, yeah that would also be theoretically possible (but super difficult with DAS) to build and get tetrises up 3 rows
@@budgetcoinhunter it wasn't immediately over - there's always the risk of an early topout no matter the skill level, which nearly happened to dmj in game 4 if he hadn't saved himself with a heroic dig. How's that phrase go? After every amazing game comes a bomb one? Ggs either way, tho (still kind of wonder how it would have gone if he had kept using DAS the whole time 🤔)
There's not much to say, really. 2021 CTWC was his last event, after that he shifted his focus on college and working out, likely in part due to the increased effort it would take to master rolling and stay at the top of the scene.
This is some anime stuff. An underdog goes up against a pro and wins the first two rounds and then they stop holding back. The underdog then breaks his personal best! No real life plot armor to take home the win after that though. Probably won't rematch at the end of the manga or a training arc and win either.
Surely the biggest upset of all time is jonas vs megaretroman. I assume it isn't listed because the elo ranking is too new? Or wasn't the elo difference between these two not as high as you would expect?
Jonas vs megaretroman is definitely the most iconic upset of all time - however their skill gap was a lot less than dmj and I (they were both das players, and mrm had 10 maxouts at the time, while I currently only have 1). iirc, Elo gave mrm about a 10% chance of winning that match. The match is mainly remembered for the games that Jonas fumbled on, but mrm was quite a good player in his own right.
In addition to what Scout wrote, Megaretroman was about 15% vs Jonas (1440 against 1820 in Elo). Biggest upset in main CTWC draw is Asta vs PixelAndy in 2021 (just under 10%) when Andy was rated 2100. Though TetrisTime being Fractal TWICE was given about a 3% chance by Elo.

Grats for placing 3rd in the tournament Scout, but IMO this video shouldn't have been made, at least not the way you made it. Yes, he went easy on you, just accept it. Is it possible that he taps out with rolling before you do? Yes. Is it probable? I would bet that the probability of this happening is lower than you beating him. And it is not just because rolling is objectively better, but also because he was playing outside of his comfort zone. Yes, he is still very competent at DAS, but if you play constantly with one technique and then switch to another one you ain't gonna be playing 100%, but more like 80-90% at most.
I acknowledge in the video that he was going easy on me for the first 2 games, but if that was the only factor that made the match close, I wouldn't have made the video. It was improbable that I'd break my competition pb twice in a single set, and it was improbable that he'd get out of the Game 4 dig and by no means a guarantee that he'd get a maxout in game 5 (in the following match, he got fairly average scores while rolling the whole time). What made the match special was that both of us managed to put in clutch performances in the end.
You are right, I was probably not at 100% with DAS, but to me it's pretty easy to pick up quickly since it's just a timing thing, so I wasn't too rusty.
