@@antlerboylive appreciate the effort. That joke really made the show. I don't know if its success depends a bit on where you live, but at least in Europe the joke really fits lmao
@AntlerboyLIVE "Mantine isn't a strong Pokemon..." You are absolutely incorrect. Sure, offensively it's not that great, but it's one of the best special walls in the gen 4. The only Special moves that can OHKO Mantine are STAB Thunderbolt, Zap Cannon, or Thunder. Also, despite being quad weak to electric, it may even tank a Thunderbolt if the Pokemon using it doesn't have high special attack or EV investment into special attack due to its extraordinarily high special defense. It tanks every other special move in the game. It's also got decent recovery options if you want to stall with it. Aqua Ring + Rest + Leftovers makes Mantine a very bulky Manta Ray. Granted, it's not perfect, as its physical defense is significantly lower than its special defense and a STAB Rock Slide or Stone Edge from a Pokemon with good physical attack can easily OHKO it, but it was never intended to be a physical wall. It's basically the opposite of Skarmory, stat-wise. Also, in later gens, Mantine becomes capable of sweeping under the right conditions with its Swift Swim Ability plus Rain Dance, Scald, Ice Beam, and Roost. If you can manage to Baton Pass it some speed and special attack boosts, then even without Rain Dance or Swift Swim, it's capable of sweeping. You said yourself you've never used Mantine before, so I'd recommend using it more the way it's intended to be used before you start making statements like the one I quoted above. I've been using Mantine since Gen 2, personally, so I'm intimately familiar with Mantine's strengths and weaknesses. I've lost count of how many times Mantine has come through clutch and won battles that I would have lost otherwise. This is even in competitive battling, though it was on the lower tiers. Anyone trying to use Mantine in OU or Ubers is asking for trouble, as it's not at that level of power, but it is a good Pokemon. I find the best Mantine set, if you're looking to sweep, is Swift Swim, Timid Nature, 252 special attack EVs, 252 speed EVs, and 4 EVs in either HP or Defense with Damp Rock as the held item and Rain Dance, Scald, Ice Beam, and Roost. Though it obviously doesn't get some of those moves in Gen 4. I find the best special wall Mantine is Water Veil or Water Absorb, depending on which ability you like better for your strategy, Calm nature, 252 HP EVs, 252 Special Defense EVs, 4 in Defense, Leftovers as held Item Aqua Ring, Surf or Scald (you pick), Toxic or Ice Beam (though I prefer Toxic on this set), and Rest. You can also run a mixed wall set that works well in the right conditions: Bold Nature, 252 HP EVs, 168 Defense EVs, and 88 Special Defense EVs, same held items and moves as the other wall set. This one will allow it to survive a surprise non-STAB Rock Slide or Stone Edge while still maintaining a good amount of special bulk (can still survive a weaker special attacking pokemon's non-STAB Thunderbolt), allowing you to swap it out without losing it. Side note: I also like giving the Swift Swim + Rain Dance sweeping Mantine Hurricane in place of Ice Beam or Scald (usually Ice Beam because Scald is STAB) sometimes when I want some extra power. Rain Dance makes Hurricane 100% accurate, so it becomes a strong reliable STAB move to have in the later generations.
@@KaijuEdits875 I just don't like it when someone calls a Pokemon weak simply because they don't understand how it's supposed to be used. Just because a Pokemon isn't a fast, offensive, powerhouse doesn't mean it's weak. Mantine has been one of the best special tank Pokemon in the game since Gen II.
I've been replaying SS with pre-bred, traded teams and I'm raising a hoppip for the first time ever. I've always thought it was a dumb pokemon, but I traded it over at level 3 and taught it solarbeam and bullet seed. It's a jumpluff now at lv 30 and it still kinda sucks, but holy feck it has 90 speed and it's a devastating setup pokemon with stun spore, leech seed, sunny day and solarbeam. Considering its attack is much higher than it's special and neither stat is higher than 40, it's been so fun just sweeping everything with this little fluff seed. New found love for Hoppip.
