They were probably only good to get you from A to B around town & not much for country driving,I can remember the LX Sunbird wasn't that good with the 1.9 litre Opel engine & tri matic auto transmission because they had to be thrashed to get them moving. Depending upon your budget, you'd be better off buying the six cylinder Torana with the 173 cubic inch six in them as the 4 cylinder engine probably chewed more juice than one of them. My uncle had trouble with his UC Sunbird because I think when he bought it,the warranty that the dealer was offering was a scam,he bought it from a Ford dealer as a Low kilometre used vehicle & he was forever taking it back to them. Good luck getting a Holden fixed up at a Ford dealer !!!! I'd say they couldn't get the parts & gave the car back to him & told him that it was "fixed" !!!! If I was old enough back then, I would have to tell him that someone with access to Holden genuine parts in the early to mid 1980's would've had to have fixed it up for him !!!!
Had a 75 LH with the 1900 manual box and on a return trip the length of NZ got 26mpg. This was when the limit had been dropped to 80kph for national fuel savings.
