Rumple being a hero, and bell crying. I couldn't handle it. And regina saying goodbye to henry broke my heart. I was bawling my eyes out.

This was by far my favorite midseason finale of the entire series. It was such a long 3 month wait for the next episode 🤣 but you will enjoy the back half! It's one of my favorite story arcs of the entire show!

Oh my gosh!!!!! I love this episode!! And it completely tore my heart out and crushed it, just as it continues to do so every time I rewatch Going Home. It's so sad and yet so beautiful for so many of our characters we love so much.
First... one of my absolute favorite moments in this episode is when everyone says their goodbyes, which I will get back to later on. But I will say that I especially love, love, love the moment when Hook says his own goodbye to Emma, as he compliments her vessel and then states lovingly, "There's not a day will go by I won't think of you." So beautiful and again... I love the emotion shown on his face with the tears in his eyes, as well as in Emma's when she listens to him, then responds simply, "Good." I love the way they stare at one another for several seconds before he finally walks away from her feeling disheartened. I love the emotional impact this moment gives me. And between Hook and Neal, I can't help but feel that Emma's chemistry and feelings for Hook are most definitely stronger. Even though she never had chance or the time to work her feelings through for either one of them. It's quite a beautiful moment, as is the entire goodbye scene. But more thoughts on that shortly...
Now... I love seeing a brief flashback between Hook and Tinker Bell in Neverland, as well as Smee too of course. And I love how it ties into the present day storyline, as Hook risks his life to try to help his friends capture Pan's shadow, all for Emma. Not for himself or for revenge like he continues to pretend, but all because he loves Emma so much, in spite of him believing that Emma could never love him in return. So sad and so beautiful.
Also... I love how Tink earns her wings and magic back by believing in herself, and I really like the moment with her and Blue when Blue apologizes for losing her belief in her. And I'm happy that Blue is alive again too, because I like her character. While we haven't seen much with her except for mostly in flashbacks... I feel she's a very important character in regards to helping our heroes, as she is the leader of the fairies and she is very powerful. And she means well. I am also happy that she apologizes to Tink for being too strict, and states that Tink has earned her wings back many times over.
Next... Pan is so sly and cruel towards both Regina and Rumple, and I love every moment. Robbie Kay is brilliant in the role of Pan and Pan is a phenomenal villain, outside of both Rumplestiltskin and the Evil Queen of course.
And now... Rumple has finally defeated Pan at last, but sadly at the cost of his own life. It's so tragic. I remember screaming at the screen when I first watched this episode. Why?!!!!! Why did they have to kill off Rumplestiltskin?!!! However, like you... I was in denial, and yet I also believed then that they would find a way to bring him back again. We'll see what's to come.
Again... this moment upon sacrificing himself to kill Pan so he could save everyone else is also quite beautiful and heartbreaking. I especially felt for Belle when she collapses and cries out his name upon being forced to watch him die. It's tragic. I also feel badly for Neal, who you can see is hurting upon losing his father even though he holds his own emotion back. You can still see the pain of his loss in his eyes.
Next... I also feel so badly for Regina, and everyone else too of course, knowing they all have to return to the Enchanted Forest without Emma and Henry, who now no longer remembers them because of Pan's curse. So sad. Again... why?!!!! But wow that goodbye scene is so, so beautiful and such a tearjerker for me. I ball every time throughout this episode's entire ending.
I also love seeing the moment again when Emma is giving birth to Henry... first shown back in this season's premiere episode, The Heart of the Truest Believer, and then seeing her memory change because of Regina's magic as she gives Emma and Henry new memories in their pasts, upon Storybrooke being destroyed. Emma never did actually keep Henry, but as far as she and Henry know and remember, Emma did. Beautiful. So sweet and so sad.
And lastly.... Hook's back!!!!! I was screaming at the screen all over again, but this time because I was so happy to see Hook appear in New York to try to convince Emma her family is in danger. Perfect!!! And I am so happy it was Hook over anyone else.
And as for Hook kissing Emma... I really don't care much for that moment. I understand that Hook was trying to give her True Love's Kiss in order to restore her memories and because Hook does truly love her as was revealed to us throughout this episode. But while we know that Hook loves Emma, Emma in no way loves him in return. She never had the chance and time once again, to allow herself to figure out her feeling for Hook or for Neal. So True Love's Kiss wouldn't have worked either way. This moment was just awkward. However, I do appreciate that while this moment was awkward, it does show us that Hook really does love Emma wholeheartedly and truly, given that he felt his love for her might have been enough to break the curse. And I absolutely love this! :)
As for the apparent lack of emotions from our heroes, like many fans feel about this episode's midseason finale ending... I don't see everyone as emotionless. I feel more like they were really struggling to hold their emotions inside, in order to keep up a brave face for Emma and Henry, as well as for Regina, who is about to make the bigger sacrifice to save them all from being cursed again in Pan's curse. And it's true. You can see a struggle in Mary Margaret's eyes, and in David's. Especially in Mary Margaret's. Just like you can see the struggle in Neal's eyes upon his father's death, and like you can see the pain in Hook's eyes upon him having to watch Emma drive away knowing she won't ever remember him. So, yes... everyone is showing emotions, while they struggle to keep them inside for Emma's, Henry's, and Regina's sake.

Glad to see you loved this episode, it’s one of my all-time favourites. It was the mid-season finale... that was some wait... the second half is just as good or... in my opinion, elevates the season even more. I adore this episode. Cry every time. Really enjoyed your reaction!

Finally made it to the gut-wrenching Neverland finale, I loved your reaction to this.
For the next few seasons the show splits each season into two story arcs, so the next episode will introduce the new arc as well as new villain.
Rumplestiltskin is dead, I cried my eyes out the first time I watched this, but his sacrifice meant Pan was stopped and everyone was saved (kind of). Just shows how much he had changed from being selfish, and I think having Baelfire back in his life really helped that development.; family is the one thing Rumple would sacrifice everything for. Seeing Belle's reaction also made it far more sad and this will lead to development for her and Bae, though I won't say anymore other than that you'll love it.
The end of this episodes was by far the most tragic, and from this we had a chance to see Regina's character development. As you said, she didn't hesitate to do the right thing for Henry and ensured Emma could be part of his life, something I doubt she'd have done at the start of this season. She really does love him more than anything, so much so she's willing to give up a chance at being his mother to give him his best chance. She is by far my favourite character.
As far as Neal goes, Regina states that everyone will go back to where they came from. As Neal is originally from the Enchanted Forest, that probably includes him even if he wasn't part of the original curse. Emma isn't affected because it was written into the original curse for her to be unaffected, though this does seem to be somewhat of a plothole, especially consider later information that I can't reveal (spoilers).
I think this is one of the saddest moments in the entire series, because all the characters had just been reunited and now they must say goodbye to one another, believing that this is the last time they'll see each other. I'm honestly not sure who has it worse, Emma and Henry living together happily yet not knowing about the rest of their family, or Snow, Charming and Regina retaining their memories yet never being able to see their children. And magic beans are rare, if everybody had them, they could hop between realms whenever they liked. But here's the thing, even though they are living in ignorance, Emma and Henry are happy. Hook as found them and while it's interesting to see the events leading up to that, we are left asking if they are genuinely better off as they are.
As finales go, this was absolutely tragic but a great way to finish the story arc. I was especially looking forward to this one, and I definitely can't wait for the next one. Something tells me you're going to love the next arc and villain.

-Interestingly, OUAT utilizes half season structures like this for the next couple of seasons. So that's it for Pan. The next villain was revealed in a ton of advertisements, so you watching this years later does give you the chance to be surprised by their identity.
-Good eye, Ginnifer Goodwin was indeed pregnant during filming.
-Mr. Gold/Rumple did die. He stabbed himself with the dagger, which is the one tool that can pierce his immortality.
-With Neal, he was a wanted criminal on Earth so it's probably best that he went back with everyone. He and Emma hadn't quite rekindled their romance anyways, given what was going on around them.

One question. If Rumple can stab himself with the dagger and die, why did he not do that in Season 7 after Belle died?

    • @Kelly-yv5tj

      @@opporancisis9661 SPOILER:
Maybe he wouldn't be able to guarantee that he would end up with Belle if he did that instead of entrusting the dagger to the guardian. After spending so much of his life avoiding death, he would probably want to be absolutely sure that what he was doing would be worth it. And then when it became a fight against himself, he chose to save Wish Hook, too, instead of just killing his own wish self. Though am I remembering a scene correctly where he almost did use the dagger to stop Wish Rumple but the wish version of him took it away or something? I haven't seen the episode in a while.

It's explained in season 5 that a Dark One is guaranteed to remain in the Underworld upon death. So the darkness had to be nullified, allowing Rumple to move on.

This was the mid-season finale, with almost THREE MONTHS before it came back. (Lots of ABC shows at this time heavily used the two-half-seasons format.)
This honestly could have been the finale of the whole show. I'm glad it wasn't because there is a lot of great stuff in the next 4.5 seasons, but this episode did wrap everything up with a nice bow: Gold's bravery and sacrifice, Regina's price and forgiveness from Henry, and of course Emma and Henry's happy ending.

Omg your reaction😭😭😭. As many times as I've watched the entire series over and over AND OVER again, this is by far still my fav mid season finale. Rumple absolutely broke my heart with his sacrifice 💔 😢. And then his dad pleading with him for one more chance at happiness. Makes you wonder if he was being sincere or desperate in the moment. Then Belle breaking down,(excuse me while I go cry again😭😭😭)
........ Ok I'm back. My God it was too much, AND then Regina having to reverse the effects of the curse and let Henry go in the process too... I just can't take it. Snow and Charming saying goodbye to Emma AGAIN😭...
Literally an emotional roller-coaster within 3 mins. I could really watch these reactions all day.
p.s. did you notice the song playing in the scene "one year later" was the same song that was playing when we were first introduced to Neal (adult Baelfire) as he was crossing the street in New York?
I thought that was sssooo cool how they implemented it into this, as we see Henry and Emma living in New York "a year later" 😊...

And in regards to the backstory scenes added throughout this episode, and them all taking away time from what could have been a better battle between our heroes and the Shadow... I really wish this battle could have been longer to make room for more of a fight, and I feel like this episode definitely could have been a two parter in order to add more to everyone's story. However, I really love the added scenes within the backstory, especially between Hook and Tinker Bell in Neverland, given that it explains why Hook is still fighting and standing against Pan and his Shadow... all for love, which in this case, he's in love with Emma. And I really love it. I also love the other backstory moments with Snow and Charming, Emma and baby Henry, and with Rumplestiltskin and Belle too. I absolutely love them all.
Oh... and as for the moment when Mary Margaret gives Henry the storybook, shown in a backstory scene that takes place months before Henry first brings Emma to Storybrooke... Absolutely beautiful. I love seeing how Mary Margaret comes to give the storybook to him as she talks about how the stories inside the book shares hope and the possibility of a happy ending, and I absolutely seeing Henry immediately begin to believe when he turns to look at Mary Margaret again as she begins to walk away from him... only for him to momentarily see her as Snow White after opening up to the pages sharing hers and Charming's love story.
In regards to how the book came into Mary Margaret's possession and how it comes to be... it's always been told that it appears by magic to the person who needs it most. In this case, it was Mary Margaret and soon to be Henry. Brilliant!!!
And lastly... I have to say, I love this Neverland arc as a whole. Pan is a phenomenal villain, played by an actor who is brilliant at a young age. Robbie Kay plays Pan better than any other teenage actor I've ever seen in any movie version of Peter Pan before. And I really love the overall direction in which this arc takes us. However, with all this being said... I also feel some disappointments within this arc, which to me bring it down more than I wish it had. First of all... while I really love Henry throughout the entire series, this is the one arc in which I feel his character is at his weakest. Not that Jared Gilmore did a bad job in acting as Henry, because I still really love his character throughout this half of the season. But I feel that the writers failed him by writing Henry the way they did, because Henry was a little weak and made some decisions that I feel were very out of character for him. I just really wish this arc wasn't so focused around saving Henry, There are many ways this Neverland arc could have been written, and I wish they had gone with some other ideas. Although, for it to have been written as it has been, it does allow for us to see a lot of character development for many of our beloved characters, mainly Emma, Regina, and Rumplestiltskin, and I do truly love their storylines throughout this arc just as they are.
For me... I would have chosen this route instead. My biggest complaint with this arc, is that the rivalry between Pan and Hook that we have grown up with and have loved since Peter Pan was first written by J.M. Barrie, then was made into a play, a Disney movie, and multiple other movies over the years... was hardly touched upon. I really, really wish that there was more interaction between Hook and Pan throughout the arc, given that Hook and Pan are one of the most famous and beloved rivalries within all fairytales. Instead, we only get one episode within this arc where Hook and Pan actually interact... in the fifth episode, Good Form. And this is partly the reason why Good Form is one of my overall favorite episodes, not only within the Neverland arc, but throughout the entire series as well. That... and because it's so centered around Hook. Outside of this episode... Pan and Hook only have one more very brief interaction just before the heroes' battle against the Lost Boys shown within the second episode, Lost Girl... as Pan calls out to Hook saying he's disappointed in him for being foolish enough to return to Neverland after he had set him free, and that he's there to fight on the side of the heroes' instead of with him. I love Hook as a character and I absolutely love all of the scenes between Hook and Pan throughout Good Form, and would have loved to see this rivalry brought about far more than what it was.
I really would love to know your thoughts about this Shelley. I know how much you love Henry, and so do I. But what do you think about the Neverland arc as a whole, and do you agree that this show's creators and writers should have expanded more on the infamous rivalry between Hook and Pan? Please let me know. Thank you!!!
What's to come is so exciting and I cannot wait for more reactions from you to come!! Because what's in store is just as good as the first half of the season, if not better. It's near impossible for me to say which season or arcs are the best. There's so much good in all of them. :) So you have lots of good episodes to look forward to. Just you wait!! Thank you again, so much! Until next time...

I couldn’t cope with rumple’s death here also. He’s my favorite character so that scene hit me where it hurts. I thought I would be okay and then I saw belle break down and fall over sobbing and I lost it too. Spoilers! but I had a similar reaction to an emotional scene in season 7 if you know what I mean. Let’s just say Emilie de Ravin and Robert Carlyle both sell grief extremely well.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this episode. However I do highly recommend watching the next two episodes back to back. Can’t explain but they really do play like a long episode. Not that you gotta post back to back absolutely say keep with your schedule. But I think you will get a better grasp at the second half storyline and what they’re going for. This season does something completely new and WILL be used as a common template for the other seasons even in its final seasons. New arc. New villain. And it’s ALWAYS complicated. You’re sooooo lucky to be watching now than on tv. This was the winter break episode and starting from 3 to 7 by the 11th episode you’d be reaching the end of the first arc.
S3 S4 and S7 are BEYOND my favorite finales ever. Unfair to say 7 since it’s the series finale however people barely even give Season Seven the time or day. I feel it is an underrated opinion and do consider that a lot of people just aren’t open to the story despite the BEAUTIFUL series finale two parter that reflects all SEVEN seasons of progress these characters have been thru. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that. So much! NO SPOILERS in my comments please. And let’s just be friendly. 🥳🥰 I love OUAT just as much as all of you. And I love the story themes of this season which is about Emma’s identity. Can she grasp and come to terms with who she is? Is she an orphan or is she the daughter of Snow White and Charming? Will Emma keep resorting to running away and fear of commitment or will she discover what it means to have a “home.”
