Since the discovery in 1999, of a large settlement site from Early Stone Age (ca 6 000 -- 4 000 BC) close to the river Motala ström, the Swedish National Heritage Board has conducted archaeological excavations north and south of the river.
Among other artifacts the site provides a rich and multifaceted material of bone and antler, which is very rare for this type of Stone Age excavations. This is due to the exceptionally good conditions for preservation. Artifacts found in anaerobic, cool and moist contexts appear to be manufactured yesterday and not to have been deposited in layers of gyttja for 7 000 or 8 000 years.
The structure of the excavated area and the multifaceted artifacts in combination with the projects inter disciplinary constitution creates widening scopes of interpretation of how the site was used, and also broadens our perception of Early Stone Age society.
This film is produced in association with the production company BringitoLife. The film crew has followed the archaeologists during two field seasons.
The site is located in the town of Motala, East Middle Sweden. The archaeological excavations are part of the Swedish Transport Administration project "BanaVäg Motala -- Mjölby". The field work will close during 2013. Stiftelsen Kulturmiljövård also investigates part of the archaeological complex.

Sedan upptäckten av boplatskomplexet från äldre stenåldern vid vattendraget Motala ström 1999 (som dateras till ca 6000-4000 f Kr) har Riksantikvarieämbetet UV Öst bedrivit uppdragsarkeologiska undersökningar norr och söder om strömmen i omgångar.
Bland de fynd som gjorts finns ett rikt och mångfasetterat material av ben och horn vilket är mycket sällsynt vid den här typen av stenåldersundersökningar. Detta beror på exceptionellt goda bevaringsförhållanden. När föremålen som legat i en syrefri, kall och fuktig miljö hittas ger de sken av att vara tillverkade igår och inte att de bevarats i gyttjelager i 7000 eller 8000 år.
Det undersökta områdets struktur och det mångfasetterade fyndmaterialet i kombination med projektets tvärvetenskapliga uppbyggnad skapar breda tolkningsramar för hur platsen har använts men vidgar också våra föreställningar om äldre stenålderns samhälle.
Den här filmen har gjorts tillsammans med produktionsbolaget BringitoLife vars filmare har följt arkeologerna under två fältsäsonger.
Boplatskomplexet ligger mitt i staden Motala, Östergötland. De arkeologiska undersökningarna sker som en del av Trafikverkets projekt "BanaVäg Motala-Mjölby". Fältarbetet avslutas under 2013. Stiftelsen Kulturmiljövård undersöker även de delar av dessa lämningar från äldre stenåldern.

I noticed that in the maps showing the water level in previous millennia, the levels rose the further back time went. I was under the assumption that water levels were actually lower the further back you go.
What is today known as Sweden was under a thick layer of ice during the last ice age and is still surfacing each year from the preassure. The shift is greatest, I believe in all the world, in Höga kusten.
True... but in this area / plays... you are also having the water level result of the making of the Göta Kanal.

Time 13:49. What does the man really say? "Dekonerade". What is not a word. What does he mean by saying so? Please translate...
He says it a bit strange but he means "dekorerade" =decorated
För inte så länge sedan ansågs Motala inte ha någon äldre historia.
