I always think of these as being quite modern. I can’t believe they are already over 40 years old. Strange that they are being hauled away by a locomotive that is probably older than they are.
I was a teenager watching these smart, modern EMUs coming into service. I was always rather fond of the 313s and it is sad to see them go - especially in that rather nasty Great Northern livery. Thanks for sharing your video 👍
That blue and purple was the colour scheme of ‘First Capital Connect’, the company that lost the franchise to GN. The ‘Great Northern’ nameplates were nothing more than stickers placed over the ‘First’ logo until such time as they were retired. The actual GN scheme is a miserable light grey with darker grey markings and doors and interior fittings in an especially cold tone of blue. If you think the colours of these are bad try spending a few hours on one of their miserable 700s. They are as physically uncomfortable and unwelcoming as is their colour scheme. I know, I live in an area served by ‘Great Northern’, which incidentally is not Northern and is certainly not great!
I went on those trains when I was a child ~ my local railway was the Hertford loop line and I live in Gordon Hill in Enfield north London with the Gordon Hill train station at the top
RIP 313s with DUAL. I know Southern 313s are completely with DC only after their pantographs removed. There’s last unit still have pantograph but service for department only.

Livery was only paint at the end of the day

They could have given them a new livery do you think?

It a shame the Network south east one was not saved
Exellent footage
A good comparison with the GN 1976 trip through Hornsey.
it is definitely very creepy that if you look at 4:33 the tail lights are on but there is no traction sound. very creepy
MSgaming HD ikr and the pantograph wasn’t up
Very nice work!!!!
Thank you...
Brilliant video, wish I could have seen one of these moves!

Be glad when southern get rid of their 313’s noisy bloody things lol
Interesseting video Derek, thumbs up :)
A sad sight.
its weird to use the 37884 coz the 37 are older than the 313 and they are gone for scrap the class57 are only about 20 now
Well technically the 57s are still older since they are rebuilt 47s which are from the 60s
not quite - the Class 57s are still fundamentally old. Only thing that got changed was the engines and control electrics.
Nice vid 👍
Some of these units looked really scruffy towards the end
☹️ ~ even more sad, seeing them being pulled by a diesel loco and not going on their own electric traction - despite their being over-head electrified
Great vid, thanks :)
Cheers for watching...
what is the name of the station that you saw the trains coming
What period of time does this cover. Days weeks. Where are they going to be scrapped. ?
The southern class 313 will retire soon
December 22 or spring 23 being replaced with 378s
SOUTHERN STILL HAVE 313’s won’t let them go ..... they still hang in there
Who operates the 57?
Kung Fu Witcher rail operations group
LAVA Thank you for the info 👍
As one who saw N2’
:(
