Love this product; thanks for the video.
fire alarm goes off
Thanks! Was afraid to screw into my ceiling. Going to give it a go. Thought I had to drill I’m like greeeeat; a hole to my attic. 😊
During the connection process, the Google Nest Application only wants to connect to my Google Nest Max Hub instead of the Google Protect that I am trying to add to my network.
Exactly what I needed!
Thanks!
We only have one smoke alarm in our rental which concerns me. Is there a way to attach this to the ceiling or wall in our bedroom without putting holes in the wall?
Did you find the answer? I have the same question
@@sseerraasera Using something like the 3M Command Strips used for mounting picture hooks could work? I'm currently researching wireless smoke detectors and live in an apartment with concrete ceilings throughout, so drilling and screwing into that isn't an option for me either!
I do not have an old alarm, I want to install the nest protect directly. how do I do this?
You just purchase this battery version and do what they show. It'll work because it has battery and you just mount it.
@@japes7 OK thank you, but I have it installed already. Anyways I will do the same if I ever want to buy more
I just need to go to You Tube instead of calling Nest support. I had the base installed wrong side down and spent an hour trying to attach the Nest protect
How long will last the energizer battery in the battery operated version?
Does anybody know?
Did you ever get an answer on this? I can't seem to find any official guidelines on it
@@Darkn3ss17 You won't likely get a real answer, but there's kind of a reason for that. If you have a high number of triggers, test often, etc. You might only get a year. I had 2 of them that lasted 2.5 years on the first set of batteries. We tested only when recommended and they were only triggered maybe 8 times by mild kitchen mishaps. The batteries that seem to be required are easily twice the price but google/nest support won't even speak to you about troubleshooting if you don't first promise you are using those Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries. Hope this helps
About 5 years, it depends but it will alert you when you need to change the batteries but good thing it doesn't chirp
i have to change the battery’s every month
Mine lasted 3½ years. It never went off other than the monthly tests. Use Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries as recommended by Google or you'll be changing batteries every month, as noted by another commenter.
I rent and would like to install a co2 detector. Can I sit this on a shelf low for co2 only and keep my hard wired smoke detectors? I cannot drill holes into the wall nor can I afford to replace all 5 existing smoke detectors in a rental.
You can use strong double sided tape or double sided velcro to hold it in, you don't necessarily need to drill. It will need to stay on the ceiling in order to properly detect CO2, and one is enough as long as it is placed near the likely suspects for fires (near the kitchen area).
co2 is carbon DIoxide co is carbon MONOxide. co2 is not the silent killker and there are no co2 detectors. co is the silent killer and there ARE co detectors. please learn the difference between carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide
@@amandaloves1d8 There are numerous CO2 detectors on the market. Please learn to do some research before being a smart ass.
By the way they're not loud.
So that means it can't be installed on a wall ?
Yes, they can be installed on walls if you want. Not recommended as smoke rises, but it can be installed.
will it check it's sensors? or sensors?

#GoogleNest #NestProtect hello everyone
No the battery version does not connect up to the other ones, they will only connect up if your nest protects are wired 120v.
Cydney Wopart yes they will, the Nest protect does not use the connect wire to connect.
it doesn’t matter if they don’t use the connection wire, if the battery ones aren’t connected to the others on the app, they won’t communicate
@@cydneywopart6238 No, they are wirelessly interconnected. The battery ones can be interconnected and the 120v and 220/230v ones does not use the interconnect wire.
Guess AMAZON doesn't like the Military. Just like so many other products. DOES NOT SHIP TO APO addresses. APO is a Military address. I've complained to Amazon. You should to. thank. This is a safety product that can save lives.
sooooooo much vocal fryyyyyyyyyy
No offense, but the backplate is a horrendous design as far as trying to attach, or remove, the Protect unit. In fact, it flat out sucks. Reminds of a "contractor grade" backplate, that's hard as hell to locate the proper alignment of the tabs, and then twist in properly to secure. Not what I would have expected in "good design" from Silicon Valley. Elsewhere else, yes.
Further, lets say that the unit is mounted on a cathedral ceiling, 12 feet high, and loses network connection, you are instructed by the App to "remove the unit" and reinitialize. Once you do the removal, there is no way to re-set up the Protect without physically removing the unit from the high ceiling, and then taking a picture of the backside of the unit. Huh?? Are the Nest engineers serious??
That’s a lot of complaining someone has to put on big boy shoes and do the work
@@douglasdwight1 I don't understand what you are trying to say, the backplate works good for me, and it's better than other smoke detectors.
boooooooooooooooo
?
Worst product out there. Not reliable.. please for your safety go with another brand.
