Fun fact - In his 14 full seasons as manager, Pep Guardiola has only finished behind four clubs in a league campaign - Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.
The fun part of this as a Spurs fan is that all the other teams mentioned won their title that season, where as we of course won f**k all.
You forget Leicester 2016 ?
@@boogy1033no, he was in the Bundesliga at the time.
@@boogy1033yeah, he forgot Leicester finished above his Bayern team in 2015/16
Fun fact: Alan Pardew tops the list.
Really not that much of an achievement when all he has done is move from one club that has dominated their respective league to the next. Barcelona, Bayern & Man City weren't exactly struggling when he arrived.

Ancelotti's record of winning the title on all 5 major European leagues will stand for quite a while.
Yeah that's impressive but it's also pretty arbitrary. Pep would need Series A and Ligue 1. What motivation would he have for going to Ligue 1?
@@tobyk8125Sure, the importance of that feat is subjective, just pointing out nobody else has done it.
@@tobyk8125 Millions of euros of Qatari money, I'd imagine

Personally, I think that the hardest done by to not feature is probably Vicente Del Bosque, with his two Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, the Euros and the World Cup.
Agree. Should be him instead of Wenger for sure
I'd put Dechamps , had success everywhere. Brought MOnaco To champions league final. Brought Bac JUventus to Serie A , Won 5 titles with Marseille including there first Ligue 1 in decades ( brught them to CL quarter finals, with a shit team) and then won WC with France + Euro finals and another WC finals
I don't think people understand how good (and influential) that 2011/12 season was by Mourinho. Sure you can say he had an expensive squad at his disposal, but it was a largely underperforming squad, that had not won a league title in over 3-4 years. Going from that to becoming the first La Liga team to win the league with 100 points, and scoring over 100 goals was insanity. And beating Pep to the title, during the year of Messi's ludicrous 91-goal tally, was truly something special. Mourinho brought a serious winning mentality to the team, which Ancelotti and later, Zidane built upon. I truly believe that without Mourinho laying the foundation, Real would not have observed the level of recent domestic and European success that it has.
Exactly, ppl often forget how la decima and the three peat was born, if José had not laid that foundation they would have not had those successes, and in my opinion I think that 2011/12 real madrid is one of the best teams to never win a champions league in the modern era of football
I was looking for this comment. People are so ignorant to his significance in building Real Madrid of today. Without a doubt, miles better manager than Pep.
He did it so many times with small/broken teams.
Pep only works with unlimited budget and already good teams.
Just look Roma now, he build that team, De Rossi just took it over...
That is my favorite Real Madrid team ever, and it speaks volumes to me that to this day, the most hurtful defeat to many Madrid fans I know are those penalties vs Bayern. They eased past everyone not named Barcelona, and if not because Mourinho got a bit conservative after Bayern scored the 2-1, that game could have been a 5-1 with how that team had started.
It’s amazing people try and give Ancelotti and zidane success to Jose Mourinho, this never happens the other way round. Jose had 3 semi finals in the champions league and couldn’t get the job done. Pellegrini got 96 points with this team before Jose arrived does he not get credit for that?
Lie Mourinho didn’t build madrid stop lying
I will put Ancelotti ahead of Mourinho, if this was the first half of the century no doubt Mourinho, but over the last ten years it has swayed Ancellotti's way both in quantity and quality of trophies. Barring that the video was perfect. Great job!
The video is just a trophy count contest. But I do agree a Champions League win should count more than league wins considered the difficulty.
@@Frozen_Sorrow If it was just a trophy count, Klopp, Wenger, and Simeone would not be in the top 7
@@finneas9894 If it was just a factual list Ancelotti would be in the worst because no top manager goes to Everton. He’s literally an intern manager that people think is good because he gets carried by world class players. His Everton record speaks for itself, prime Calvert Lewin and he fumbled it

Guardiola changed football and not for the better imo. The success of his Barcelona team and the Spanish national team between 08-12 changed the way football was played forever. The game became increasingly possession driven, every player playing a very disciplined and specific role in a well oiled machine. Strikers have largely become a thing of the past at highest level of football, as have traditional central defenders who's job it was to actually defend rather than being able to pass a football really well. Ball playing centre backs, false 9's, less individuality and expressionism on a football pitch: this is Guardiola's legacy. He changed the game forever and was hugely successful at it, but for me football is less entertaining than ever because of it.
tiki taka football was only fun to watch at Barcelona because Messi, Eto'o, Henry, etc., were pounding in goals up front. as soon as that same system was translated to the Spanish national team which didn't have world-class forwards, even though it was still successful, it was insanely boring to watch. his tactics have shifted away from that slightly in recent years, mostly i think because of Klopp pushing him with the high-pressing style and midfield overloads with full-backs.
I mean... A Sport will always evolve to the tactics that win matches. Someone from the 50's might argue that why are these players playing behind and at the centre of the pitch when they can all just be strikers 😂😂.
It's a natural evolution and it will evolve even further. Also, people like Ancelotti are still there winning big shits with expressionist football
@@newbie4789 I don't disagree with you. There would be many who disagree with my view and that is fair. Guardiola is a great coach, no one can take that away from him.
Not to include an honourable mention for Frank Schmidt at Heidenheim is a crime
Yes, Pep Guardiola is an elite manager, yet I would like to see him manage a team, where ressources are less than elite. FC Barcelona, FC Bayern and Manchester City all have the optimal working conditions. Pep Guardiola might just be a luxury manager.
i dont think lyon can afford him mate
Why take a low paying job when you can take a more lucrative one with highyer chances of success? He is only human man, and he's got bills to pay. People need to stop acting as if they would take a 10k/year job in a small company and refuse to take a 300k/year job in a big company.
@@jeromeyoung4782hes got enough money. Believe me. No bills will ever worry him again. Some managers or players go for jobs they WANT after that because they’re fun.
@@jeromeyoung4782 Thank you for completely missing the point. It's not about the salary, but the ressources at his disposal.
@NoCureForMe again, Why would he chose to go to a small club when he can go to a big club that want him and can pay him more and provide him with more resources???
Criminal to not mention Vicente Del Bosque. With Real Madrid, he was a manager of the Galacticos team that won the 2 Champions League and 2 La Liga titles, before his harsh sacking in 2003, which started the downfall of Galacticos. 5 years later, Del Bosque was appointed as a replacement of Luis Aragones, who won the European Championship that year, and revolutionized tiki-taka on the national team that resulted in 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 triumph, becoming the only European country to do a back-to-back winners of European Championship (and maybe, one of the greatest international football team of all time).
Fergie being at 4th still feels too low even though it's a third of his career
I guess you could argue he should be ahead of Ancelotti because he won the league eight times to Ancelotti’s four in the 21st century, but Ancelotti did win the champions league four times.
@@eddixon2015 Fergie lost two UCL finals to the greatest club team ever assembled. if you compare the lineups of each team, he was a massive underdog both times.
Finally someone mentioned that Guardiola did'nt actually inherit a super team but rather made one out of a relatively struggling Barca with bold decisions and his tactical genius I don't think that in 08 anyone would've predicted that barcelona will win a trophy let alone the sextuple , Messi will instantly become one of the best players of all time , Deco and Dinho will be sold , Alves Pique and Abidal would become the best in their position , Iniesta will be elevated into a global icon , Xavi would have his best ever season and Busquest will emerge as the best CDM of all time. It was all Guardiola's doing. And Its about time people give him his flowers for that.

The only question mark for Guardiola, when compared against the other greats, is that he has never had the same success as them with an underdog team.
Sure, Jose won with Real but he also won the CL with Porto, Chelsea's first league titles in 50 years, a treble with Inter and Roma's sole European title.
Fergie did it with Aberdeen, Klopp with Mainz and Dortmund.
Guardiola by contrast has managed Barcelona, Bayern and Man City. I would argue that each of those teams were strong favourites to win their leagues in the seasons he was there.
Would u take a job working as janitor after being Ceo of a large company ? Why would anyone downgrade in terms of the big jobs . Sir Alex had to do it cause he was a nobody before becoming a coach . Not a great player
Pep was a Barca captain through the 90s and was part of the dream team which won the UCL
I think that this is even more true with Mourinho. Mourinho has exactly one massive win (Porto's CL) after which he got the easiest jobs and was never exceptional with them. Whether it's Real, Chelsea, Inter or Spurs - they were equally as good before he joined and after he left (apart from Chelsea who got all that cash when he joined, but they were as good after he left). He never really outperformed his predecessors or successors which Pep always did.
Why would he go to an underdog team?
Which manager have you seen going to smaller club when a big club approaches you?
Mourinho has been sacked from clubs all his life
You think he would have joined roma if he had other top options?
Or you think klopp would have gone for liverpool if madrid wanted him?

Everything that has happened to Man Utd since 2013 only reinforces Alex Ferguson's legendary managerial status i mean to win title after title for as long as he did at Man Utd was clearly not as easy as it appeared at the time otherworldly otherwise Man Utd would have won numerous more titles after he left which they haven't despite the massive resources at their disposal so clearly it takes a lot more than simply having a lot of money to make a successful football team

Small correction… first season of Mourinho in Porto was a half season but he got nothing in 2002. Then he built the next two full seasons in Porto full of successes, and the rest is history.
Obrigado assim não tive que escrever eu a corrigir 😛
Did Pep Guardiola went trophyless on his first season with Manchester City back in 2016-17?
I think Guardiola’s biggest failure is never winning the champions league with Bayern.
losing the final to Chelsea in 2021 was also objectively pathetic. the fact it took him 7 years to win it with this City super team is a bit of an indictment. he did far and away his best work at Barcelona.
@@evanclp514considering City had never won the UCL before makes it impressive. Their lack of experience in that competition showed, but Pep was the one who got them to the top and won a treble.
To be fair, i do think Mourinho has declined, but hes an absolutely fantastic cup manager still. He should absolutely go into international management, because the cup competitions suit him much more
Please Alfie
Every Freddy Adu’s mentions in your intro
That thing is too hilarious 😂
Praising Ancelotti and Guardiola reminds me of when people used to praise Lewis Hamilton for winning all those championships with Mercedes. Is it them or is it because they are surrounded by quality? For that reason, I would have to put managers that achieved great things against the odds, higher, such as Mourinho and Klopp.
Can everyone fuck off with this against the odds Liverpool nonsense acting like Klopp is managing a Sunday league side with no money. He spent fucking 85 million on Nunez alone yet everyone goes on like Liverpool are some broke club who are defying the odds. Klopp is the most overrated manager in recent history.
Shouldn’t Jose get criticised then for failing at Madrid
@@tevildo45 He did just as well as Guardiola did at Bayern - winning the league but falling short in Europe.
For all his success I wouldn't have rated Mourhino so highly because unlike the others he's had a spectacular and irreversible fall from grace. Otherwise I can't fault the arguments. Big respect to them all for what they've achieved. Money was of course crucial to their success, but success only came because they knew what to do with it.
Agreed. I feel like Klopp’s ability to adapt and thrive in the new era of football should lift him up the rankings just as the reverse case knocks Mourinho down a few levels, although admittedly it is hard to argue with Mourinho’s accomplishments.
That's why I personally rate Ancelotti higher than Pep. He had success (relatively of course) with fucking Everton.
freaking hell you got me with that first spot
i was ready to hear him out tho 😂
I feel you forgot Del Bosque who literrally won everything Euro UCL and World cup
Almost got me with Alan Pardew there
I do think that Vicente del Bosque should be in there. But apart from that great list! One could give an honourable mention to Thomas Schaaf though.
Nope his achievements were legacy of Pep Guardiola & Luis Aragones
Love this video and all your content! Would you please do a deep dive into how well Luxembourg are doing? They are close to qualifying for their first tournament and have set up amazing infrastructure after 18 years ago being ranked 195th
Please consider an Overachiever managerial list Alfie? Many of your example (esp. 'the special one') are people who have achieved at elite teams, with star-studded squads and endless finances. The true measure of adding value to a squad, is those who run things on a shoestring and bring out better performances from those they manage.
Oh and the penultimate bit- brilliant comedy timing. 🤣 Thanks.
that's actually a great idea. Would love to see managers who consistently performed better than expected. Yes, Pep's the best, but there's a different kind of charm to the people who face way more struggles and work in very sub-optimal conditions and still deliver.
Good video man 👍🏻
Beautiful content
Love these
Really agree with this list. Just wanted to say that Jose achieved a treble with Inter in 2010 which I think was the first Italian one? That champions league with Porto in 2004 looks more and more outrageous every year that goes on. Still remember him running down the touch line at old Trafford. 😂
Great achievement but tbh no real great teams in Europe that year , wasn’t a vintage man united side, then had Lyon, deportivo and Monaco, I’d say bat man united they were favourites in each round
I mean, if talking about Wenger, His words still have the weight. Literally just now he suggested a change in offside rule is being seriously considered. He is AMAZING
The greatest one hit wonder manager I suppose you could say is Claudio Ranieri I mean who can beat the achievement of Leicester City winning the EPL in 2016 when you take resources into account it really was the stuff of fairytales
Claudio Ranieri has actually had a pretty decent career as a manager! Although he hasn't really won much, he has turned a few teams fortunes around from struggling into strong competitive teams including Chelsea, Fiorentina, Juventus and Valencia! In saying that, he has won the Premier League, Copa del Ray and Coppa Italiano!!
@@michaelward5370 And reaching UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final as the only Premier League team in 2016-2017
I agree that the best managers are the ones that make players and teams play and perform above the level they have. Guardiola obviously knows his job of herding stars and picking up trophies well, but he is actually underachieving because he always had the best players, and was a bit of a flop in the CL with Bayern.
The best managers are those who work wonders with the limited squad they have. Van Gaal, Klopp, Clough, Ferguson also actually, Hiddink and Ranieri although that was a one off.
@@DenUitvreter Winning a league consistently then domestic quadruple then a treble is not underachieving.
@@doublejacketjimmy391 If you have 4 of the 5 best players in the world and the rest of the squad is great too, you quickly underachieve relative to the sum of it's parts.
I think he should have won more with Barcelona, more with Bayern and more with City for him to be a manager that adds to the quality of his players rather than just not having them waste their talent.
Scaloni needs a honourable mention...
Before this season, Thomas Frank should be in the top 10. His Brentford aerial bombardment was revolutionary in their home games. Also Graham Potter at Brighton was absolutely amazing and his Chelsea stint ruined his reputation even though the football was still decent but the players weren’t scoring their chances, not his fault, he coached wins.
The "Without further Adu" is the best running joke on this channel😂.
Vicente Del Bosque won 2 Champion League's, 2 Euros and of course a World Cup. There is no way that Simeone and Wenger are above him, they shouldn't be in the same conversation tbh.
And one thing about Simeone and Wenger: They didn't ever win the Champions League!
Arsenal should have won it in 2006 if Jens Lehmann wasn't sent off. Atletico Madrid, well, are so unlucky to face Real Madrid with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Perfect list.
Looking forward to the 7 greatest kit men and ball boy lists to round out the series. Obvious pick, but for the latter my choice would be the one who got Hazard sent off - a ball boy who really showed up on the big occasions.
I would like see pep promoting teams or overachieve with small club without unlimited budget
I'd like Pep to manage my pub team. But I can't afford to pay enough money for him to do that, because the best managers are the most expensive and get the best jobs.
I would love to see jose win ucl with chelsea and madrid without spending soo much money
@@utkarshbarcaHe would have won with Chelsea if not for the wrong decision.
He beat prime FC Barca of Rijkard too
only imbeciles with zero ball knowledge make comments like this.
barca, the season before pep was appointed manager, finished 3rd in la liga. in a 2 team league, they finished 3rd. pep then came, sold important players like ronaldinho and deco, bought players that fit his system like alves and pique and won every trophy they could win that season. the arguement, that barca had a phenomenal team is futile because the same team finished 3rd the season prior.
at city, yes he has spent a lot of money, but if you look at net expenditure, man utd have a similar amount to city in the time pep has been there but they have achieved nothing significant. it's almost as if money alone doesnt buy sucess, a good system and good coaching also comes into play.

Diego Simeoni deserves to win the European Cup and the Tetra with Argentina to cement his place in the Hall of Management GOATs.
Lolololol. Oh god he’s not even in the top 10 managers for Letti let alone in the top 10 since 2000. Hahahaha. Jesus. Talk about pandering to Hispanic fans.
Sorry but the prem is the toughest league. That’s why plenty of managers come with trophies to England only to walk away with their tail between their legs. (Touchel, Conte, Ancelotti, ETH, LVG, Poch, Mourinho, etc)
But yeah he has done a lot with a club that always finishes in Europe and has a wealth of experience. I mean he has taken Athletico from a team that sometimes challenges for the La Liga and does okay in Europe to a team that sometimes challenges for the title and does okay in Europe.
You ask any fan of a prem team if they’d want Simeone as manager and I doubt you will find anyone that wants their team managed by that nonce.
Oh and I’m not English. Just also not South American like you so not being tribalistic and claiming someone is amazing just because we are from the same continent. Sad.
And greatest of all time. As long as you ignore Shankley, Cullis, Busby, Clough, Fergie, Wenger, Dalgleish, Claudio, Mourinho, Pep, Klopp, Toshack, Zidane, Scollari, Enrique, Pozzo, Beckenbaur, etc
I mean Mario Zagallo is the best Argentine manager ever… Jesus.
When someone only knows football through FIFA and UA-cam videos.
Jesus. Calling someone a goat. Ahahaha. That’s like saying he was a goat player… ahahahaha. Yeah the GOAT if you forget about at least 5000 players and managers better than him.
He is going to win the UCL this year finally sadly.
@@AlTarif If ever there was a time, it indeed is now. I’m confident we (I’m a Barcelonista) will get thru PSG as will City thru Real and Arsenal thru Bayern. Dortmund are by no means a pushover but Atleti can get thru. Simeoni can mastermind his way thru us in the semi bringing them up against Arsenal in a probable final which they can win but just as easily lose. Frankly, this Champions League is basically City’s to lose and while I’m confident Arsenal and Real could win it, too, I’d honestly sooner see Atleti or Arsenal win it. Barcelona winning it would be awesome to vindicate Xavi but I don’t think we have anywhere near the said depth to pull it off what with five games to play considering out medical department is currently full of starters…
Either way, as long as Real, PSG or City don’t win, I’ll be okay with whoever wins it. There are a few good storylines headed into the semis but the best is Atleti or Arsenal winning their first ever European Cup cementing the legacies of either Simeoni or Arteta, both of which deserve it for their tremendous work behind the scenes of both their clubs. And while I am Brazilian, I’d still be really happy for Diego to win the European Cup with Atleti then go on in many years to lead the Argentine squad to their Tetra. We’ve already got ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ so we can afford to see Argentina win a fourth without worrying too much about when we will finally be Hexa… if ever! 🤣
😂😂 you got me with pardew. i almost threw my phone lol.
The later will almost always better than former. Any player or manager in top 5 leagues would be god tier 20+ years ago except timo werner. That boy would still miss absolute sitters.
Mourinho's first season as Porto was indeed a half season, but it was a half season in which he took them from fifth to 3rd not winning a treble as you say, the treble was in his first full season; and the league and champions league in his last
Working Freddy Adu into every intro is almost my favourite thing about this channel.
You should do a video in a different series for international managers
If this was the concluding video of the series, it would have been good to show the lineup of your chosen XI and manager.
The football rickroll was amazing alfie shoutout Allen pardew
That Invincibles team of Arsenal were a joy to watch, I saw them beat my beloved Liverpool at Anfield and every Liverpool fan present that day felt privileged to have seen that team show our team how to play football the correct way, they were the best team I had seen since Liverpool's "Better than the Brazillians" team of 1987 to 1989, sheer class that I havent seen since the time of the Invincibles.
Guardiola inherited an insane squad that was still on their prime, however, where me and my friend argued that elevated Guardiola and gave "legitimacy" (As if he needs it that season is special regardless) is how many decisions he made that season that were absolute game changers. Messi into false 9, rotating with Eto'o as a centre forward, starting Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta (Iniesta was known to be awesome already, but not to that extent) over Deco and Yaya Toure, as well as clearing house. Keeping those who were committed and bringing young players or extremely important role players for the squad (Keita, Busquets from B, Pedro from B, Hleb, Pique and Dani Alves) is what made that team truly special.
The belief, confidence and philosophy oozing from the team is why even as a Madrid fan, it is very hard if not impossible to argue that is the greatest team of all time in terms of a single season. It changed the sport, it evolved into the modern game and essentially crafted Spain into the eventual world champions. I am not a fan of Guardiola as a spokesperson or how he sometimes clashes with players, but that man is a genius, and other that his stint at Bayern, everywhere he goes he just wins and looks so much better than everyone else (Yes he is penalized for not winning Champions at Bayern). Easiest top spot I have seen you give in a while.

Alfie taking a piss there 😂
Props to Unai Emery: he has his own list of honors that would place him on a list like this, but he has done a couple things of note at Aston Villa: 1) He has taken players acquired by two different managers, players whose own values had fallen quite a bit, and immediately turned them into a (possible...it is almost April) Top Four spot. That includes his first match against United. 2) Player values have risen since, along with (unfortunately) more players like Douglas Luiz getting call-ups for their national sides. This has been attributed to the effect of Unai Emery's coaching in the words of these same players. At this rate, I believe Unai Emery would easily earn a spot on a list like this in the future.
18:58 alfie's humor has evolved lmao

My seven before watching, from least good to best: Wenger, Conte, Jurgen, Sir Alex, Jose, Don Carlo, Pep

Del Bosque got the shout!
Arsene Wenger & Fergie... Literally responsible for putting managers on the map, top 2 for me.
I hand it to you, the Alan Pardew bit went longer than expected
That Padrew segment kill me

Best is Simeone hands down. It's about money-to-results-ratio, not titles. Titles will flow to the richest clubs.
Good lessons.
The pardew joke made me laugh... I enjoyed that too much lol 😅
