You thought you'd be getting the mainland when playing Scotland, but instead you're playing as the isles to the northwest; very historical
Start location: legendary
HYPE🫡🇫🇮ALT🇩🇰SCOTTISH #HI💤#TORY 🏴🥃⚔️
Highly accurate that the mainland is full of Indians.
scotLAND? more like scotOCEAN amirite
@@alecjordan4180 Not funny I didn't laugh. Your joke is so bad I would have preferred the joke went over my head and you gave up re-telling me the joke. To be honest this is a horrid attempt at trying to get a laugh out of me. Not a chuckle, not a hehe, not even a subtle burst of air out of my esophagus. Science says before you laugh your brain preps your face muscles but I didn't even feel the slightest twitch. 0/10 this joke is so bad I cannot believe anyone legally allowed you to be creative at all. The amount of brain power you must have put into that joke has the potential to power every house on Earth. Get a personality and learn how to make jokes, read a book. I'm not saying this to be funny I genuinely mean it on how this is just bottom barrel embarrassment at comedy. You've single handedly killed humor and every comedic act on the planet. I'm so disappointed that society has failed as a whole in being able to teach you how to be funny. Honestly if I put in all my power and time to try and make your joke funny it would require Einstein himself to build a device to strap me into so I can be connected to the energy of a billion stars to do it, and even then all that joke would get from people is a subtle scuff. You're lucky I still have the slightest of empathy for you after telling that joke otherwise I would have committed every war crime in the book just to prevent you from attempting any humor ever again. We should put that joke in text books so future generations can be wary of becoming such an absolute comedic failure. Im disappointed, hurt, and outright offended that my precious time has been wasted in my brain understanding that joke. In the time that took I was planning on helping kids who have been orphaned, but because of that you've waisted my time explaining the obscene integrity of your terrible attempt at comedy. Now those kids are suffering without meals and there's nobody to blame but you. I hope you're happy with what you have done and I truly hope you can move on and learn from this piss poor attempt.
jk I liked it lmao
Chandra Gupta is very much giving " I believe you are weak and no threat to me, so I will allow you to continue existing."
not only is his direct neighbor chandragupta, but his other neighbor is alexander...this seed was never meant to be enjoyed 💀
The 'Scotland as Portugal' campaign.
It's runs like this that make me question if Potato might secretly be a masochist, because no normal person would willingly tolerate this level of pain.
He is
It's the challenge. It's fun to see how far you can take builds like this.
Gotta keep it fresh somehow.
He played the desert only Canada challenge twice, he certainly is… 😉
He will totally win this game. What a champ.
This is my favorite Potato campaign. I'd love to see more terrible starts.
Still surprised how is Chandragupta not attacking you
Potatos coastal empire isn't worth to be conquered 😂
My guess is his random secondary agenda favors Potato
the only way to get to him is through Kumasi or by embarking. If he isn't suzerain and doesn't have shipbuilding, he can't attack.
@@talosisoursavior3061True, but he has also had galleys since very early in the game
The boats are beefy too so the AI might not be distinguishing that he doesn’t have a lot of army they might just see the overall size of the military
23:39 usually when i run into this situation, I delete my pin and start moving my settler somewhere else. Sometimes (probably coincidentally) they will move their unit.
I LOVE the underdog story happening here. If you can clutch a win out of this one, will be legendary.
Wow, a Very Exciting Archipelago Start! Is this Gitarja perhaps...or maybe Joao...ohhhh, Robert the Bruce...I see..... Best of Luck Potato! We believe in you!
one of my biggest gripes with civ 6 is having some moron city state plant a useless unit right where I want to settle and they just... never... move
I used to conquer city states just because of this. It's the same as the AI forward settling you right when you lead your own settler on exact same spot - I just declare war and go conquer that AI if I can regardless of further diplomaacy in the game. Annoying af.
“the natives consider this tile the cradle of life, their holiest site, and will never relinquish it willingly”
I've levied city states out of annoyance because of this
@@leshamas_ not so easy on Diety...
Cultist blocking is even more annoying (surrounding cities, especially city states, with a horde of cultists so no one can get close), at the very least IMO religious units should be able to attack them but maybe not boost their religious pressure when they win.
That Scout standing on the pin makes me think the AI will just stand on pins for city centers, which may be exploitable behavior!
That would be so strange
About that scout: I thought that City states always moved their units. But there should be an option to pay gold to move one unit to a different neutral tile, without being suzerain of a city state.
If you are suzerain of a city state you just need to levy their troops. The AI will fear you more, you can make ton of exploring and the scout wont block your city anymore. Win-win-win....
Hovewer you need to be suzerain and you must levy. You would need a lot of gold and influence. Its not easy.
I really enjoy how you take on these random, extremely difficult starts. Real life Deity Civ, not sanitised make-life-easy setups.
Ep. 1 "still, could be worse"
Ep. 2 "it got worse"
I really think the golf course should be unlocked with entertainment complexes. Historically that's too early, but from a game balance perspective it makes way more sense and it would give Scotland a little bit of a buff which I feel is definitely justifiable.
I really hate that they unlock at Reformed Church because Scotland doesn't have any bonuses toward religion, which means you generally aren't going for Theocracy as your government type. So you then have to take the time to research an otherwise worthless civic just to get golf courses.
Preach
After first episode: “Well, it’s only uphill from here! Right?
Right…?”
Always love all of Potato's content, but am particularly invested in the story being told this time around. Hang in there!
Even the AI would have restarted the game if they rolled this start lol. Looking forward to you winning, I wouldnt last 20 turns on this roll lol.
You sound like sisyphus, in a never ending task to push the boulder uphill and losing your mind as you do it. I'm loving the series!
I love this start with this civ. I like to mix and match with the different civs and set up less than ideal maps/game settings for the civ and then see if I can find a way to make the civ the most useful. It feels like what happened here almost. You get such a good, fun time trying to work your way out of the "terrible" starts
Move your galley and settler and that unit should move off your city pinned spot.
I run into this a lot especially when running rr to city states. If you step away from them they usually move away the next turn.
I think in the next episode that scout will miraculously disappear.
Potato plays Robert like AI Kupe😂
The phrases you can use in this game are unexpectedly funny
"The crabs are soon online"
He's basically making Phoenicia. Cities across coasts which are connected between one large sea
scout: we do a little bit of tomfoolery
Fun fact, Kandy spells Danky if you rearrange the letters
Anyone know what the mod is called where it shows what tiles will be in range of a settler when you pop a city down? Looks super useful.
Deity? How is it possible that noone attacked you yet, especially having zero land units? 🤷🏻♂️
That was what I was wondering also
Maybe they forgot how to find him on land?
Your level 99 ignore of that volcanic 3/1 hill adjacent your capital was the hardest thing to watch
You are so optimistic about this build, which is as always masterly planned… but it is still a huge struggle boy… India still peaceful, that at least gives you time to keep up and sim a bit more ❤
lol @ the AI Scout that was blocking future land like YOU do all the time like a pro, haha
Absolutely loving this series
I had to start war with a city-state on the other side of the world because it sent its builder to my continent, then wondered about until it stuck itself EXACTLY on the tile I wanted. I know exactly how frustrating having that happen is.
Potato's videos are getting more interesting lately. I was just thinking, would I watch another series after the last one? and the answer is yes, yes I would watch Potato suffer. This seems impossible to win but I am invested to watch how it will end up.
Potato trying to decide which building to put up in his government plaza and I'm just like, "People pick something OTHER than the settler building?"
Welcome to Tall Civ 6 play!
@@stgoodwi Yeah I've always played wide - even before I knew the terms tall and wide.
I like the audience hall
If only Auckland was in this game. Also, you have max iron to sell to the other cigs.
tbh Auckland ans Fish pantheon are both too big
The pantheon's problem is to be a must-have.
If you try to play coastal without the pantheon you're in for a world of pain. so basically only one civ can rightly play coastal per game
And Auckland is just too strong to have on top of it. +2 prod on fishing boats up to +3 in industrial age? fishing tile just become better in every aspect than land tile - and only one civ can access this -
I love to abuse this but it's kinda broken
Aww man thought you’d get the Artic Golf Course down before this video finished
is anyone else slightly frustrated that Potate didn't claim the grassland hill tile next to the volcano before India did? he has such garbage tiles it seems like that one decent one would have helped. :/
First time I’ve ever seen anyone ever be excited to see Dundee.
I like that the algo didn’t notify me of a new video from you until a full 5 episodes of this was already out, they know we binge 😂
I feel like the title was a catfish... I was expecting a DOW or some tragedy. Not just a scout that won't move :)
Indonesia in this start would be mental
I feel like a golf course in the snow should not be possible....
I like the idea that AI is holding the tile to settle its own city and potato drops the dev tools hand of god to obliterate the scout. The lord has spoken, this city will be scottish!
i'm so happy u didnt go for Heros Mode, its so OP
Youre poppin’ today, Potato!
Interesting little playthrough, cannot wait to see how it ends!
7:00 what is the benefit of placing districts, but not building them immediately?
As the game progresses the cost of districts goes up, putting them down immediatelly locks them into the lower cost.
@@Eagle3302PL wowwww thank you. i have 100s of hours played and didn't know that
As land-choked as you are, would it have made sense to purchase 3rd tier tiles?
move the city pin and see if the scout follows!
Lore accurate Scotland
fishing time
My man playing the Hebrides
Great series!
Why obsessed with golf? I've literally never built a golf course in Civ! What am I missing?
win or lose, love it. vanilla civ 6 :D
Why haven’t you moved the settler onto the land next to the scout? It may move then at least till it does move you’ll be 1 turn away from settlement as opposed to waiting and still be 2 turns away. Like what if he comes back to the same spot after leaving while you finally get into position. Lol
I dont get it. Why every player on youtube destroy bonuses whit harvesting/chopping? Can you just farm them and sell it on trade?
Deer is improved with a camp, not a pasture.
just impulse buying that granary in the capital was omega oof
At least Mali put that city right where you wanted it to be. Easy targets once you get your frigates
Ai usually puts there cities in bad spot just near where I wanted one so I gotta faze them to place my city properly
Cheating is based. Delete the scout.
Ocean bay area, so a sea?
Pretty good honestly,I've seen worst.
Hmmm yes when scotland became a ocnquering empire
The scout won't move because the devs for Civ 6 are lazy and they have neutral units block tiles you have marked and call that "difficulty". If you want him to move, move your city marker.
*Sad, out of tune Scotland the Brave playing in the background*
I would have to kill Kumasi. That extra city could be huge, especially since it actually has good land
Could you explain why that third settlement to the NE of Venice, on the blank desert tile, is a good settle location? Isn't the most important element of settle locations to have a combo of decent food and production? That tile has zero of both...
The fact that you didn't buy field with volcanic yield triggers me.
at around 7:15 he placed down the harbour but then immediately worked on building something else. can someone tell me what the benefit is of that? why even bother placing the harbour?
When you place a district its build cost stays the same as it was at the moment of placing it, even if you progress the game. Districts in Civ 6 gradually increase in cost as more districts get built, there are some tips / guides on the specific mechanics that go into it, but that's the general gist. By placing down the districts, you ensure you won't have to pay more for the same district later on.
@@An1llusion Wow okay that seems Like something I should start doing😅. Thanks!
I play Scotland using religion, because golf courts unlocks at theocracy. Choral music, tithe, and whatever else gives you gold and culture you need in early and midgame, and later win science.
I mean, if you have religion and 6 cities you can boost your way to golf courts, choral music gives you culture so you do not need any theatre squares, and you can also pick that religios building which gives happiness (i mean, they all kinda are for religios people, but as the resource) to not build aquaparks and their land version. I mean, you can, but you will not get buff for 17 happiness in city, and all my cities was at least 10 without any happiness districts, only by religios districts, golf courts and amenities.
Sorry that i forgot some namings, when AoW4 came out i deleted civ6 and cant remember all things, but i still very like Potato. And his videos.
Also you can convert all faith you do not need to defend your religion to great scientists or army with tier2 building at government plaza which is thw best building in game you can not change my mind on that.
honestly i would love to see india burn in this playthrough
I feel like a little warring might be needed for this game. Lets see the bloodshed.
... i see some varus coming along to greet u ... that would be my approach if I was chandragupta 😅 ... nevertheless appreciating ur playtrough as always
Very interesting to watch having no experience in this game whatsoever.
Are those a pair of axemen sitting on the iron hills? It's been so long since I touched Civ 6 and it has a lot of new stuff I don't recognize.
We all know you’re gonna conquer India eventually LOL
Doesn't the AI deliberately place units in ideal locations in order to block players? I remember in Civ 5 that was the case
How did it get worse?
Considering how far behind he is in culture and science by the end of this video compared to the beginning I'd say it got worse... Even war to gain yields is gonna be a struggle.
@CASFRM I've been thinking exactly the same? Potato even says at the end it's "serious progress, serious gains". Everything seems fine, if a little slow
I swear I had to keep on checking my settings to see if it was sped up. I wasn't going crazy
what's the highest difficulty this game is winnable at? that's what i want to know.
ive been playing civilization since civ4, then i watch youtube and found your video. i bought civ 6 and had no idea which dlc should i buy. any suggestion?
This reminds me of the sulimean game a while ago(i did not spell that right)
10:00 you can't actually get crabs online.
Why place the harbour to the left of the capital rather than the bottom right where it would be adjacent to one fishing boat and the campus?
Squatlund
Hey Spuddies
SharknadoSantista
How do you drop the pins where you're planning to place things like districts/cities?
It's detailed map tacks mod
Which mod shows you the three hex radius grid around your cursor?
First! You were right it does get worse…
Nice!
over value granery in fish island... Ow and you should really think about district discount since you dont have production
20:23 The other choices are not very inspiring... 2 minutes later So I'm planning on settling like 4 more cities
I must admit that the fact that you did not have a trader by turn 90 is kinda too slow IMO. You prioritised the builders so much, however, there was not much to really develop. As you mentioned yourself, this game would mostly rely on the gold income rather than the cities and land.
9:37 wait what. Just hold down ctrl?
Been playing the game since Civ 3. Don't remember loyalty issue was sooo bad, literally unplayable for me. In King difficulty, every game I tried, I had lost cities to neighbours. So early in game, you can't explore civics to place army, no governors... So disappointed.
