Hi Brian, I have a question for you. My rain gauge picked up 7 inches over the last 3 days here in southern Costa Rica. I also left an empty bucket outside in this same period and it overspilled. The bucket is definitely more then 7 inches tall, so, is there something wrong with my rain gauge or am I just confused as to how this all works?

He came down with pneumonia and was hospitalized on Thursday (May 9th - died on the 13th). Thank you so much for mentioning Colombia. We live in the high San Nikolas valley just south east of Medellin and, yes, we're getting lots of rain but, no flooding for us. Might be a different story for Medellin, which is in a very narrow valley at a much lower elevation.
