I have never seen sculptures that look so alive. That man was a true artist, who not only brought the physical form of the person to his work but also their soul and being. What a wonderful video.
Good to hear him talk. I remember seeing an image of a Murphy work, sculpted on a slab: a Madonna & child, taking the form of a naked woman holding a baby upwards towards the sun in Thanksgiving. I think it dated from 1932, so maybe it was done in France.. His comment in the first couple of minutes about writers made me smile: if anyone does something that others are not doing it is looked on with suspicion. Peer pressure is a more peculiar and primitive thing than is often said.
Wasn't going to click, but I saw a bust of Michael Collins behind him and I thought I would. Lot of great people from Cork, but M.C. is my fav. Born there. Killed there. If you can name a single person who had more impact on Ireland than than Mr. Collins, please share...
walking the streets on the north side of cork city could be a substitute for going to a gym. there's a road going up to a barracks that is so steep it's insane.
This kills me ,annoys me .I'm a sculptor myself who worked for potters house and Tom rainy doing some busts that where beautiful, tattooed earrings in the sculpture if I remember right they had a nose ring in the female bust .aluminum finish ,and white if anyone sees this and has a white pair I wld buy them from you .sculptures are unemployed now I still work with clay when doing silver or gold zippos .but the printers cnc are taking over .I must have seen it coming I got a few of the things I done photographed I done a mtr n half sized 3d printed salmon but the sign shop that wanted the fish more pronounced got me to look at it , I said yes ill bring the fish to life I built it up airbrushed it and it now hangs in morning side Edinburgh outside a fish and chip shop ,and it got treated with chemicals I think that will be up there for a long time .peace
