I know this is 10 years old, but just getting started and you may have changed my life! This is AWESOME! I would never have picked this because I thought it would be too fussy. I might actually go cut my first quilt piece! Up til now, I am just watching videos.
Each quilter has a different personality that is transparent in their quilting. Your color schemes are beautifully rich looking, plus your unique patterns that are uncomplicated just illustrate what's inside of you. True beauty. Thank you for sharing your methods, skills, and love of quilting. Like many people listed below, I love what you bring to the table! Awesome. :)
Susan McNeil, you are amazing.Your tutorial 5/10 minute quilt blocks are so beautiful. Will try one of them 😂,but nervous. These are different from quilts of old? Also current & simple.I noticed color combinations, making each quilt unique! 😲 Wow! I can learn from you! I didn't just want to jump into something without the knowledge of color/ fabric combination.Thank you Suzanne McNeil!
designs & color combo is so modern & bright! this way of piecing seems so easy & fun I'll do it for the many thinner 5" fabric squares I have! glad I saw this!!!
I just love your smile I can see the passion you have in every pattern. I am a beginner and would love your books. My mind is going round and round thinking of how I can do them and cover my beds with all newly made quilts. I love to sew. Thank you for sharing.
Tutti fruitti and the others could almost mimic crocheted granny afghan squares - remember those? Just add a black border around each square. Heck of a lot faster than crocheting and changing colors. Took me along time to do that 40 years ago; not sure I could do it again! What a great quick lesson. Thank you :)
I have purchased a few of your quilt books including the twist and turn quilt book. I have just finished the quilt top to the "Twister" throw quilt using Moda "Through the Years" collection. Super super easy and very pretty even with using just the 2 colors of light and dark as I did. I'm waiting on my backing and batting to start hand quilting. Thank you for your awesome work. God bless.
Ordered both books and just made a quilt in an afternoon using this method. Love it for fast and still good looking quilts. Thank you for such a great idea.
Just wanted you to know it was one of the easiest quilt blocks I have ever done. So very simple I went exactly as you showed worked out perfectly thank you so much
I took your advice and tried it again. I finally got it. It looks great and is very easy, Now that I watched it over several times. I'm slow on the uptake I guess. Thanks for encouraging me to give it a try. Thanks for the videos as well. 😀
I tried this recently and it was awesome! I was even able to sew a block with my 4 year old twins around. I love the cathedral look and this made it so easy and quick!
You make me look like a pro, hehehehe love your tutorials and your books and I am one of the hardest people to grasp things until I ran into you. Thank YOU!!! Starting my third quilt.
MOst of the videos hav complicated templates and designs......But ur video ...wow....amazing simple designs & technique....i am totally new to this concept. thank u soo much for sharing....!!!!
Outstanding Idea! Thank you so much for sharing this technique, Suzanne. I am anxious to give it a try. I am just a beginner when it comes to quilting and this looks like something that, as you said, anyone could do. Super! Hugs, Suzy
I am brand new to the quilt world and I just tried your 10 Minute Blocks technique. I ordered the book a couple of days ago but couldn’t wait to try it. The first block took me about 45 minutes! I had to turn my iPad upside down and stop and start the vid to get the placement right. Hope to get better and faster: I LOVE the look! Thanks for the tute~
I have made 2 of these great quilts, with strip pieced squares. They were done in low volume shabby chick prints and they were gorgeous. Wish there was a way to post some pics. Easy, fast, and BEAUTIFUL.
I have found that using a 1/4 inch seam on the general construction is great & then when sewing together the pieces where you have to work in the center pocket ; use a scant 1/4 inch seam, because it is less likely to "catch" the pocket fabric making a pucker in your diamond which really will tic you off!! I can get it down to 8 minutes without messing up the middle. ( using the scant 1/4 inch seam) My friend tried it too & she agreed.
That's cool! I love fast blocks, but most of the time they are very wasteful (involve cutting off a lot of fabric). This one doesn't waste anything- I like it.
Wonderful, I agree...foolproof. I know, I am so sorry, the publish date was delayed. From what I understand Fox Chapel will have it ready to ship out on the 10th of this month.
I use this alot, love it, Suggestion if you take 3 prints or solids and 2 background you can make a perfect bow tie. Just make sure the blocks are the same color for the ends and the center. Just lay out the 4 squares with `1 solid 1 print on top and on bottom opposite colors. Makes prefect bow tie.
Looks easy enough, however I am very on hands I need to be able to it demonstrated at a reasonable pace and then I have no problem duplicating. This will tell me if I will enjoy Quilting as a craft I am willing to dedicate all my new spent time to. I am savvy in Cake deco, Sewing, Art & Crafts, scrapping and many other projects. I hesitate to invest in a lot of money if I cannot handle the more intricate patterns beyond the very basics.
@pugluverr Most of the quilts I make with this process are 10" squares. That is because I use the Layer Cake Collection of squares from Moda Fabrics. I also use the 5" squares from their Charm Collection. As long as all the blocks are the same size they can be any measurement. Happy quilting!
@jabonra The books are online at the Design Originals website, just google Design Originals. Amazon also carries some of the books. Thanks for your interest.
@AhmaAhpa1 The pattern book '10 Minute Blocks' is available on the Design Originals website as well as amazon, many of your local quilt shops carry them as well.
I Made two of theses quilt the quilting was not that easy for me but I think they came out good I'm going to try the smaller block so the quilting well come out better for me.
liking the 10 minute quit not good at math but love the big 6 block what size for a queen size bed. I need a fast quilt my daughter is having back surgery and i need a fast quilt for a gift for her 16 week recovery gift. thank you.
Thank you and love the quilt designs. I do think it would be very helpful if you did take each step at first a little slower and show the steps. Very confusing for first time-new quilters and from some of the comments, even for more experienced. Only saying this because tutorials as SO very helpful, and appreciate your doing them. I have 10-Block book 1 and 2 and want to purchase the Twist and Turn. Thank you
