    ABOUT THIS FILM
    ____________________
    Common buzzard (Buteo buteo)
These birds are the most common and widespread bird of prey here in the UK. They are also found across Europe, Asia and Africa, but in North America, their closest relative is the red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis).
    Buzzard id
Common buzzards are one of Britain's biggest birds of prey, easily identifiable by their broad wings and their iconic call, which sounds as though they are mewing.
    Finding a buzzard nest
It's long been a dream of mine to follow the secret lives of common buzzards and so when I spot a pair soaring over nearby woodland, I seize the opportunity to find their nest.
    Buzzard nest
Buzzards normally nest in loose open structures made from twigs and set at dizzying heights. But this one is not too high and I'm able to reach it with a ladder.
    Hidden cameras
After positioning my cameras, I retreat to watch the story. I notice the nest is particularly small which suggests it was made relatively recently. It's possible their original nest was blown away.
    Buzzard chicks
There are three chicks inside, aged about three weeks. The chicks are exposed to wind and rain, but this early exposure to the elements seems to have made them resilient.
    Buzzard parents
The adult birds are diligent parents. They stay close to the nest, bringing in a varied diet of small mammals, birds, and even lizards. The female is responsible for feeding the chicks and tears up larger meals for the chicks.
    Chicks grow up fast
But by four weeks the chicks can handle small prey items on their own. Life in this open nest is tough though, and when one chick drops its meal there's no getting it back!
    Getting ready for first flights
As they grow the nest quickly becomes crowded and the eldest chick takes to practising its wing flaps on a nearby branch whilst its siblings look on.
    Age difference
Buzzard chicks hatch at three-day intervals, so there’s nearly a week between the eldest the youngest.
    First flights
At 50 days old, the oldest chick has left the nest. Its amazing to watch as its siblings also take flight!
    Juveniles competitive
As they grow the chicks, once so close, become increasingly competitive, fighting over food and chasing one another away.
    Buzzard parents
Common buzzards typically mate for life, staying together all year round even after the chicks have fledged. They also demonstrate remarkable patience with their chicks.
    Buzzard feather development
As they mature, the plumage on each buzzard chick starts to change with darker colours giving way to lighter hues.
    Time to leave home
As the young buzzards grow, their parents begin to withdraw until finally, in November the female is ignoring their begging calls, and even pushing them off the feeding post. It's time they found territories of their own.

Deep within my soul there is a beauty
A beauty which I kept behind a wall
Now it is time to release that Beauty
I am bound by infinite love for The All
I am strong for The All to bear my duty
I am still I am answering the call
Soon there will be only beauty Soon all darkness will fall
      💛💛💛🪞💛💛💛
I walked in pain upon these streets
      Drinking booze and eating sweets
The sweets I put within my veins
      Heroin was my sweet Insane
I had given up upon my life
For all I had was miserable strife
One day an hour past the night
LO and BEHOLD I saw the light
The light I saw lifted me free
From pain and drugs for eternity
I knew there and then I AM THAT I AM
Because in forgetfulness I forgot my plan
      God gave me sweet remembrance
Since that day I always dance
I dance in the stillness of the Ball
I sing silently a Hymn to The All
I share my light with everyone
And happiness and joy I have become
I pray that we All see the Glow
That I once saw LO and BEHOLD
Now my purpose I can fulfill
Of my names sake I do God's will
Sam means messenger of The All
He showed me the light To answer his call
Now I AM walking upon the Path
I AM filled with joy and often laugh
My Heart is Laughing all the time
For All of God's love is sweet sublime

I’ve seen three buzzards in the skies above my village. I live on the West Lancashire plain and I see them riding the thermals over the river flood plain. I haven’t seen them since the Autumn but I’m looking forward to seeing them and hearing their plaintive cry later in the year. I hope the weather isn’t too disruptive on your side of the Pennines. Great video, regards, M.

@@theotheseaeagle I know but as an American I have a very fixed idea what a buzzard is a vulture and it has a red naked head and neck and pukes all over itself while eating carrion.
An eagle / hawk is nicer looking than that. And what Europeans describe as buzzards are very majestic and beautiful animals.
      It’s cultural.

Fascinating! In Texas people call vultures "buzzards" which I believe is incorrect. Texas is home to two main species: the Turkey Vulture and the Black Vulture. They act as a marvelous cleanup crew. The rural roads would be covered with roadkill without them. They roost on an abandoned shack near my house which is pretty creepy-looking at nightfall, but their soaring is mesmerizing even if a slightly inauspicious omen that death is nearby.

    • @kRis-rn6so

I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada, and all of us were surprised when a Turkey Vulture stayed in our city for the summer. They haven't been back since, but honestly can you blame the guy?😂 Our weather is kind of weird here and not the warmest for those kinds of birds.

But 0:56 the Crimean peninsula is depicted as part of Asia, even though it is still part of Eastern Europe. A small but very significant detail for those who live here.

and after I saw buteo buteo mates flying over a huge field and had a nest in the trees but I lost them once it reached 2024

@@RobertEFuller I have a female Cooper Hawk that likes to visit my deck. She sits on the railing looking over my backyard for her next meal. She is quite impressive and I am amazed she comes so close to the house. I live in a neighborhood that is off a wood and conservation area it must be where she resides.

Oh! I’ve seen some of your other videos where you referred to these birds as buzzards and I thought to myself that doesn’t look like a buzzard it looks like a hawk. But this is one more example of America using different terms from England. In my mind the word hawk is much more dignified than buzzard but I’m sure that’s just because of the connotations I’ve grown up with.

Without any research, I always thought the Red Tailed Hawk was the equivalent of the European Buzzard...and the Red Kites the equivalent of North American Vultures.

Amazing footage. I got around to visiting the website, now I have to choose which fox print to buy my daughter (I wanted a brushed silver metal frame but could not find one so that adds to the decision making struggle too). ?Fantastic artwork with so much detail.

I chose the frame that matches a little of the wood in her lounge, we can always change it later but I prefer to use someone you trust with the artwork. Thank you Robert@@RobertEFuller
