Is there any reason to use one of these over one of those midi pickups on an actual guitar, or using one of those guitar-to-midi boxes with a normal guitar?
I already have multiple guitars, and those removable midi pickups etc are half the price. Then I'd have full scale and range of the guitar, and a normal guitar that still does guitar stuff.

A midi controller gives you a direct midi signal that won’t be fucked with if your slightly out of tune, I’ve tried out midi pickups and midi to guitar they don’t sound half as good

I have to say this is a really good tool. I enjoy both regular guitars but also I enjoy synthesizers. This is more midi/synth based than guitar based. This is good if you want to use this for playing midi/synth instruments. If you’re a guitarist on the go, this is helpful for sure. I use it for when I’m having to go to multiple places through the day. This is an investment. Here are the cons to the jammy. Its kind of plasticy. You have to get used to the feeling of it as well, it doesn’t feel super natural but it’s not hard to get used it. It took me about few days of toying around with it to get used to it. It’s charge is kind of middle of the road, so it’s not great but it’s not bad. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a portable instrument that can be used for multiple purposes. If you’re looking for a new guitar, this is a fun addition to the collection but shouldn’t be a go to for solid guitar playing. The jammy company is doing pretty consistent updates for its firmware and have improved upon the response issue that a lot of people had with it at first. All in all, it’s a reliable instrument with some minor setbacks, but with more potential than downfall. It’s a solid 3.8/5

This remembers me the kitara, the diference being that in the kitara, the "strings" were substitued by buttons in the neck instead of a proper fretboard and by a screen thing that reacts somewhat to the movements of the right hand.

    • @chrislaarman7532

Well, there are (at least) two approaches to MIDI guitars:
      1) Having all pitch-to-MIDI conversion and a MIDI Out (and Bluetooth MIDI) aboard the guitar (as with the Jamstik Studio and apparently this Jammy);
      2) Having all pitch-to-MIDI conversion in some case, fed by the individual signals of the strings through a cable with 13-pin connectors (as with MIDI-ready guitars by Fender and Godin and the GK-3 pick-ups by Roland, with among those "cases" the GR-55 by Roland and the SY-1000 by boss).
I think that each approach has it pros and cons. I could be in a marching band playing a battery-powered synthesizer (or soft synth on a mobile device) through my Jamstik Studio, and have the sound come from a portable active loudspeaker. I could play my 13-pin gear and have better guitar sounds (Godin) or dedicated guitar synths with MIDI Out.

I always wanted to play midi Guitar live. But not something quite like this exclusively. Amir Derakh has always been one of my biggest influences. I wish the divided pickup, midi converter thing had matured a bit more, if it had come as far as modelling has we'd have something quite usable by now. I still have my GI-20 and a couple of GK pickups, and I still hope to build a dedicated hybrid rig with a real guitar that can also play synth modules.

Hey Fluff, Happy Birthday! Would love to see a follow-up video please. I have not yet found a review of jammie that covers some things I would really like to know about jammie as a MIDI controller. I use the Fishman tripleplay, but wonder how jammie performs. . Things like- tracking speed/latency, accuracy, chords, continuous or stepped bends, slides, picking vs. fingerstyle,, dynamic range, and if there are differences in tracking speed between low and high strings. Would love to see a comparison between the tripleplay and jammie or other options if you’re ever up to it. This might not be in your wheelhouse, but it could be a fun and helpful adventure into guitar MIDI tech. Love your channel. Happy Thanksgiving!

ive seen some other reviews for this, and some of them are negative, but despite people's criticisms of this instrument, i do think it would be super fun to play around with, and would totally get it if i had more money. My current financial situation wouldn't allow a several hundred $ purchase on something that may or may not work, but if i was making a living off of something better paying than washing dishes, i'd totally want to buy and play around with this thing.
I will say one of the biggest complaints ive seen from negative reviews is the fact that sometimes the midi sensors misread what youre playing and output a wrong note, but ive heard a couple say that thru the app, a few software changes were made to make this problem less frequent, so that makes me really excited for the development of this technology. So altho this tech is still in its early stages of development, i do think its super cool and those in a financial position to do so should totally check it out.

Failing to see how the Jammy is more expressive than a keyboard with aftertouch tbh. I come from using 80's guitar synths like the Roland G series, and the Synthaxe, and both look just as, if not more capable (the SynthAxe slays the Jammy and was made in the 80s!). Midi lag is a bit greater on older units, but the expression on the Jammy is just dissapointing. I've looked all over UA-cam and cannot see anyone do a good bend on it, or vibrato well. So yer, keyboard with aftertouch and 2 mod wheels has more expression currently in my opinion.

being a digital guitar, what's the latency like? is it noticeable, even in the slightest?

Vlad Duh nice. I love the idea of a midi guitar I just don’t know why as of 2020 it’s still something that hasn’t been mastered by the industry

@@bavingeter423 Indeed, maybe the concept is difficult to implement in a way that would appeal to the masses, there have been more digital guitars from what I've seen, they just haven't been very good. I really look forward to getting one of these if I can afford it anytime soon, tho I'm not even sure if I can get one here in the uk, we'll see..

I saw a review video Rachelf did on this thing about a week ago. The way she talked about it, the Jammy is junk. Her main complaint was that it's less responsive than my last ex-girlfriend.

Its trash. I bought one, very unresponsive, the midi didn't always record properly (i.e. missing notes played).. could go on and trash this for a few more minutes, but its not even worth it.. the thing is worth about 100 bucks, maybe 2.. The best thing about it is that its portable.

This midi controller should be taken seriously. it isn't good for performances but it is perfect for making music in studio because nowadays music is made in digital daws whoch do everything for you. For me with midi keyboard and decent e drum kit this would make good set of instruments for me since if i decide to get into music production i'll go independent and lucky for me to disribute my music today i don't need record companies to do so.
