    Shocking, I am reviewing a electric scooter, the Boosted Rev! The first none-electric skateboard product Boosted had ever made. And yes, I think they made something very interesting, and well worth consideration if you are in the market for a high end electric scooter. Here's why.

      Yes, definitely go with a helmet! On the demo unit, the speed limit didn’t feel like a hard limit and we were able to get it up to 24-25mph and that’s some serious dangerous speed!

    Really enjoy your videos and opinions. I have owned many electric scooters and commute 74 miles each day to work using a mix of BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and electric scooters. Of those 74 miles about 16 miles of it are covered by my electric scooters. I sometimes take out the Onewheel but I prefer the speed and safety of my current favorite electric scooter. The EcoReco L5+ in my opinion is the best scooter for the commuter. It is the most portable and powerful package I have used and is also an American backed scooter. I actually like the Rev but it is not even close to the level of portability the L5+ has. The L5+ is also just around $1000 which is much cheaper than a Rev. I actually rode a Rev as I have seen a few running around San Francisco. It is a very nice scooter and can handle much steeper hills than the L5+. It has better acceleration but just a bit lower top speed at 24MPH versus 25MPH for the L5+. The Rev is considerably heavier and doesn't fold into a more compact form due to the non-folding handlebars.
    I have a bunch of Singapore purchased scooters I have sitting in the garage that are even more powerful than the Rev or L5+. These scooters can hit 30MPH or more. However, each one has come down with electrical or mechanical problems which are hard to deal with since there is no local support for them. It is also hard to get parts. I also get worried about the mechanical parts that have failed as it is due to poor metal quality or poorly casted parts. I have managed to fix them and they work but I don't trust them. I have over 700 miles on the L5+ and have owned it for a few months now. It has been bullet-proof and has very good range. It also has front and rear suspension with solid tires. The Ecoreco has a good ride and no chance of punctures. After having to deal with punctures on non-standard little scooter tires you don't ever want to get air-filled tires for a commuter scooter. It can cover the 16 miles each day going full speed at 25MPH. It has also handled the rain very well as long as you cover the throttle area. It is the only portion susceptible to water penetration. You would also think the one rear drum brake would be a disadvantage for the L5+ but it stops just as well as any of my disc-brake scooters and stops in the rain even better. The exposed disc on my other scooters have had issues getting bent or calipers needing to be adjusted all the time. The drum brakes are just less hassle and can stop just as well. The Boosted Rev brakes are solid but having drum brakes just takes away any issues of bent discs which can happen more easily than you would think.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 років тому +2

      The regen braking on the Rev works really really well, I was actually surprised at how well it works, and that it actually performed better than even the disk brake. I did not realize that Ecoreco is based in the US, since honestly their scooter looks just like all the other generic electric scooter you find on Alibaba or Ebay. This matter to me since; not knowing anything about the company, what the product look like, is an indication of how much the company care about their own product. If they did that spend sufficient time to make their product stand out, why would I think that I had spend time to engineer it properly or made sure that it was assembled well?

    • @RCDevotee
      @RCDevotee 5 років тому

      @@OWGAC I was like you regarding Ecoreco. I owned the M3 and M5 scooters and sold them quickly as they lacked the range I needed. The L5+ is a much better scooter. I never thought I would own another Ecoreco but the L5+ has been great. I am happy Boosted has a good product in the market. It will only help the adoption of personal electric vehicles.

    Because motorcycles require a special endorsement on your driver license. You also need to have insurance. A scooter doesn’t need a license or insurance.
    Boosted is not impressive. It really needs a lot of updates.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 років тому +1

      Motorcycle requires insurance and endorsement because at speed greater than 35mph, the ride now pose significant danger to others as well as themselves. It is inconvenient and a cost, however I rather see regulation than out right ban if a bad accident hit the news.

    • @mikemiller9119
      @mikemiller9119 5 років тому +2

      Hsiang- That’s one way to look at it. The other is the regulation is an outright ban. There really isn’t ever a middle ground unless you fight for it.
      Of course, the government sees $$$ they can get from you, so they will “regulate” and charge you to do so.

    I have eskate, onewheel, and escooter. My escooter is definitely my fastest transport I just full-speed full-throttle it everywhere even when jumping off kerbs etc. I do the local McDonalds run in under 12 parsecs lol.
    My escooter is a Zoom Stryder EX, which is just about perfect iin every way. Any more size or power and the scooter is too heavy and clumsy.
    Now the Boosted scooter has huge design flaws, it looks like they have not done their homework. No suspension! What were they thinking? My Zoom has limited suspension but it REALLY is important especially if you want to go fast, or very fast jumping kerbs and traffic ramps like I do.
    The boosted has air tires, that sucks. Replacing/fixing a scooter hub motor tire is terrible. So is the constant checking/pumping. Zoom stryder has solid tires, I thrash it through broken glass (which is everywhere) and laugh.
    Boosted has wide handlebars, that sucks. Scooters handle very unsafely with wide bars especially if you try to turn the bars when going fast or take one hand off. When going fast oon a scooter you turn it by leaning the whole stem to the side, leaning the scooter right over. Wide bars are a disaster.
    Boosted ground clearance is a total joke! My Zoom has about double the ground clearance and needs more, it scrapes some things at high speeds in city riding.
    I don't want to sound mean when you are excited about a new purchase, but Boosted scooter is a terrible design. It looks like they knew NOTHING about city scooter riding and what the public needs. Also my Zoom was approx $700 USD from singapore with free shipping. The boosted is priced about DOUBLE what it should really be selling for, especially with the antiquated design.
    Hope I didn't hurt your feelings, but take it from a fast city escooter rider, Boosted really blew it big time with their outdated design and their insult of a price.

      @jpoorr9973 5 років тому +1

      I agree with everything you said. Until you started talking about wide handlebars. It's obvious you don't know what you're talkin about. I do from experience. I currently use a 740 mm Race Face Chester 1 inch riser paired with a race face respond 60 mm 10 degree rise stem on my dualtron ultra. It's more stable at high speeds and a all-around better ride. Plus using a wide quality aluminum handlebar allows the force being applied to it to result in Flex through the Wide Bar reducing the amount of force when it reaches the stem and folding mechanism of the scooter. The folding mechanism is the weakest point of any scooter. Putting real mountain bike bars and stem is the best upgrade to any "HIGH PERFOFMANCE" scooter. Small folding handlebars suck unless you absolutely need them. I should know my daughter has a Speedway 4 Pro which I still ride occasionally.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 років тому +1

      LOL, my wife has been reminding me about the not knowing what I am talking about part for year! However I am a little bit unsure what you meant about the handle part. The handle on the Boosted Rev is BMX style, slightly sweep up and back and none-folding. Some ppl had complain that this makes it harder to carry and store, but I agree with you that folding handles is a point of failure and tend to lossen overtime.

    • @wizrom3046
      @wizrom3046 5 років тому +2

      I think he was arguing with me because I said wide handlebars are no good. :)
      When you ride really aggressive on a scooter you don't steer with the bars, you hold the bars right next to the steering stem so you don't risk "turning" the handlebars, and instead you steer by pushing the whole steering stem right or left to get a fast aggressive lean, and by using your feet too. I used to race motorcycles so I probably ride a scooter different to the average guy puttering around. I get my hands so close together my thumbs overlap.
      Also, wide bars are a liability when cutting traffic and with people on the sidewalk.

So Gopro just need to make a product with good enough of an upgrade for people to want to buy a new gopro. Boosted is in the same bucket, if you are an esk8 enthusiast you aren’t really riding a boosted board anyway; its for the 90% of population who does no research and just impulse buy and the scooter falls in that bucket also. Love your videos, always great. But this one, maybe a bit beyond zone of expertise.....Respect to the Rev for quality and tech support. Water proof. Shock resistant. It will last, and can be repaired when needed. BUT --- Boosted are new to the niche. There are compromises. No suspension. No handle bar height adjustment. Solid one-piece handle bar. And what is the use case? Too big, 46 lbs with no design element to roll it, (it must be carried) and no folding handlebars; Too cumbersome for last mile use. PITA to carry up and down stairs, clumsy around people on bus or train.. Ecoreco S5 or L5, very compact but still have power, collapsable and light, US rep, perfect for last mile. Rev not nearly as fast, off road worthy, fraction of the range of the bigger cruisers like the Dualtron (Mini motors has been refining their design over many years), Zero 10X/ Turobowheel Lightning, etc. (Which definitely are for more experienced riders. And also worth riding purely for recreation.)
    A cheap "starter" scooter for (way) less $$ than Rev, before dropping $1,600 on the Rev, is a good idea for newbies to get riding skills and to dial in the use of/ purpose for their scooter. Same as for new EUC rider. Everybody different. No doubt, some will go on to choose the Rev, and won't go wrong quality wise. But to call it the "best" without reservations, and without regard to how it will be used, is probably misleading to those who are unfamiliar. It's an in- between size. Full of compromise. Great for rainy days, well made. But in real world applications, often not the "best" tool.

    • @OWGAC

      I disagree, Bird and Lime are well represented in many market now and they represent the budget entry point for most people. The Rev is a premium product and why shouldn't a product be premium if it cost more than $1,000? Looking at the Ecoreco site, there's nothing that indicate to me that I am looking at a premium product, the design is generic, the website looks simplistic, and I have never heard of Ecoreco, and going by Google Trend analytic I don't think I am the outlier. Again, I am not sayint that the L5 is a bad scooter, just that for the general public, when they are spending this much money on what they would considered to be a cutting edge product (as compare to let say a bicycle) Quality and company reputation is more important than performance.

Ask yourself: where are the tubes listed in their accessories store? Where is the flat repair video they promised? And when it finally exists, watch it. Will anyone be able to do that repair at the side of the road?
      They say this is vehicle quality. Cars, motorcycles and motor scooters are vehicles. Do cars, motorcycles and scooters use tubes? No. Why not?
      Anyway. Just wait.

My problem isn't the great build quality because it is certainly better yet it goes half the speed and distance of say the Turbowheel lighting.
