    Spend no more time on this project!!! Cast it off as is and donate/Vinted/Ebay it. Let someone else alter it/harvest the wool. The yarn is itchy, so donate the rest of the cone too, as you'll never wear anything made of it, end of, lesson learned. We all have an epic fail once in a while, don't beat yourself up about it. I got so cross with a fail that I took the scissors to it and it went in the compost bin as I didn't want to inflict it on anyone else. It's a shame but move on to something you DO want to knit, life's too short. It was lovely to see you letting go of some of the yarn in your last destash video. If it doesn't "give you joy", destash, sell, donate. You DO NOT have to knit every last scrap. Any leftovers donate to a nursery/school, the little ones love chopping up wool or weaving with it. Be kind to yourself, Claude. ❤

    Try to do a give-away contest. The dress will go to a loving new home, you can still get the yarn off your stash, and also get a boost to your chanel. A win-win-win ❤

      I came here to suggest this too! Maybe a small donation for a raffle ticket and do a draw. Then it's out of your way and not stressing you out and someone who loves it can wear it. 😊 It's so frustrating when projects don't turn out as expected.

    Cut the row just above the increase for the skirt, finish the ranunculus for someone else, add a band to the skirt. You can gift it as a set, keep the skirt only, or donate them both separately. There's just too much work in that skirt for it to all get frogged.

    If you hate it, I think you should try selling it as it is (just cast off, of course 😂). I'm sure someone will love it, and you spent so much time and effort making it, you shouldn't give it out for free! I think it was also very valuable lesson for us all - don't make stuff that we know don't suit us just because we think that somehow this time they will work (said as I'm finishing knitting tank top, last time I had bare shoulders outside was around 2008). I still stand that I think this colour looks gorgeous on you, but it could also be camera settings, you know best. And about casting on, maybe some 30s summer wear?

      I agree, finish it, measure it and put the whole dress up on Etsy. And charge enough - here in upper Swabia they say "Was nix koschd' des is' au' nix!" - freely translated, if it costs nothing then the worth must be zero.

    I think finishing as a sweater and giving it to someone is such a generous idea.
    I love the beautiful yokes all over the knitting community, but the vast majority are just too low for those of us with “ample awning over the front porch” (Yarn Harlot). Same with boat necks. Sigh.

    From a spinning perspective… the cone yarns are made for weaving not knitting and are made with lower quality wools ie itchy. Two ply is not a particularly good yarn for knitting. All from experience. That said…. Once I washed the finished sweater and removed the harsh spinning oils the wool became softer. So, finish where you are. Wash and block. Donate to charity. I bet a larger than you girl will absolutely love it. If only you had a ‘hand knitted’ tag to sew in so they knew how to care for it.

    • @DorkAcademia

    Sell it? If you’re comfortable of course, but you’ve put so much time into making the dress that it would be a shame to just give it away. You know it’s worth, and even if it’s not your style, i’m sure someone else will!
    Even putting it down for a little bit like some other comments are suggesting might help: to come back with a different mindset

    Honestly, I'd put it in a box and give it at least a week, preferably a month. Go back and look at it then. If you still hate it, then you have two choices, if you want to keep the yarn, frog it and reuse it. If you're just done with it and don't care overly about the yarn, cast it off and sell it. You may not like it, but there are lots of people who will love it, it is a very hot right now. Objectively it is a lovely dress and the skill and work put into it is obvious. I hope you can appreciate the work that went into it, even if the end product didn't aligning with your initial vision.
    I hope you love your next project more.

  • @andreahughes1500
    @andreahughes1500 5 місяців тому +6

    I vote for gifting, selling or donating it. If the yarn is itchy, there is no point in frogging it and making something else, because you won’t want to wear the itchy yarn. But maybe someone else will e less sensitive to it. Also, someone else might like the look of the dress.

  • @hearherhands
    @hearherhands 5 місяців тому +6

    I completely agree with the comments to not even try to alter it. Maybe at least put it away until you've had a break from it - that's a lot of time and knitting to be so completely hating it. And at that point if you still hate it, I agree, you should sell it or do a contest. Because there is surely someone out there who will adore it just as is.

    Time to lose the idea that you MUST use all of your stash. Keep the yarns that you like, and send on the yarn that feels like a burden to you. I have just awaken from a seven year depression (seems to coincide with the election of a certain US president). Scrap it, kick it out the door, rip it up, bin it, let it go and make yourself happy with new yarn or new fabric or an entirely new artform. Life is too short.

Also trying it on with out anything underneath except a thin sheath will help you see better how it hangs on you. Add a lovely scarf to hide most of the yoke. Drape it tied on the side of your neck to break up the yoke line. Wear black boots with a bit of a heel. You will rock this dress!

    I had a similar thing happen. (I have talked about it within the comment sections of a few of your shorts actually 😅) I knit a dress for my daughter and the skirt looked very bad, even though it was what the pattern had, if might have been because I made the dress a lot shorter and it made the skirt look a lot wider. I tried to knit the skirt part again but without any increases and decided to add ribbing at the waist and it looked even worse so I completely unraveled and found a crochet dress pattern (making sure my kid approved)

    Hi Claude. I totally relate to this!! That's really too bad, but I agree with you. I'm very sorry that you put so much time & effort into this Ranuculus dress & you don’t like it at all. Itchy yarn is just awful!! It's always sad when our knitting/crochet doesn't turn out at all how we hoped, or we just can't stand the project anymore. I wanted to make a Ranuculus for so long. I've had the pattern for years. I finally got some Malabrigo Caprino dk weight yarn on sale about a year ago, to make one, but I still never started a Ranuculus. I think I just waited too long to start it, & my enthusiasm has completely faded. The yarn is beautiful though, so it'll just have to wait for a completely different project. I hope a new cast on will make you feel much better. Maybe just put the Ranuculus dress away for a while, & come back to it at a much later time. I love your channel!! I'm a fellow spoonie, sending you a spare spoon I save for emergencies. I hope you're feeling alright. - Lisa nyc

    I made a cardigan last year, and nearly completely finished it, and I absolutely hated it when I tried it on. It was so much work (also, the pattern was horribly riddled with mistakes), very unflattering, and I was so frustrated with it that I packed it away for a few months.
    Then I had a need for that specific yarn for a different project. So I ripped it out and made it into a new project that I absolutely loved.
    I think your sweater would be lovely without the skirt. If you could make it cropped or perhaps a slight A-line I think it would be quite nice. 💕 Maybe just put it away for a while and come back to it?

Though you hate the dress 👗 you had made, maybe you could sell it to someone who might like it or you could chuck it for now. Making it into something else later. You worked so hard on it. If the yarn is itchy and you don't like the colour, are you even going to wear whatever you end up making out of it? I definitely feel like gifting it away as-is is the better choice, I know it's much harder to let go of crafting materials when you're not super well off (been there) but as established, you have several years worth of yarn in your stash. Just imagine seeing this cursed cone every time you reach into the stash to cast on something new... All the annoyance, guilt, shame of a failed project, staring at you every damn time. It's not worth it!

    Oh goodness! I really do feel for you. Such a disappointment after so much hard work. Perhaps you could offer it as an unfinished UFO to the knitting community - would someone else like to finish it?

    Well, not a complete failure! You learned to choose a better pattern/style. You learned to get a softer, better yarn more appropriate for clothing that will touch the skin. I think making it into a top for someone else is a great idea. People like gifts, esp unexpected gifts. And you also learned to buy colors you like or love. And all that practice work isn't a failure. It will lead to future successes. 👍

    I'm so sorry you feel badly about the dress. You might raffle it, or donate it to a good cause that fund raises by silent auction. Or alter it with your sewing skills? Just trying to put a positive spin on your disappointment. I wish you Peace and Blessings Claude🧶

    Raffle it off for a charity, and be done with it. That's something I've come to over time. If I'm not feeling the magic of a project, I've gotten militant about not investing anything more of myself into it, by adjusting or chopping, etc. Someone will love it as is.

  • @aolster3198

    I get it.
    What I don't get is an experienced yarner working with an itchy yarn!
    Yarners, use the face/cheek test (without cosmetics - or inner wrist): if your skin does not say "Yay!" you must not pay!

    Oh, I'm sorry. I've done the same thing in the past. If you don't even like the yarn, give the whole thing away. Someone else will love it.
    If you think you might like the yarn, frog it and put it away for a year.

  • @chantal9285

    I would try to sell it and if it doesn't work, donate it. You put so much time on it to just frog it. Is it possible to chop it and do one ranonculus then put on elastic to make a skirt (or a bag) with the rest? I don't know, I personally love the color but I do understand how you feel. Don't throw it away though... you worked so hard on it!!

    Put it away in a project box and forget about it for a while - you might find yourself coming round to it, or you might find something you want to use the yarn for, and otherwise you can give it to a friend who I bet will love it 😊 My projects always seem like the worst thing ever when I've only just finished them

  • @leaf2576
    @leaf2576 5 місяців тому

    Why don't you sell it? After all the time and effort you put in, it would be a shame to get nothing out of it. That way you get some well-earned compensation for your work, somebody gets a lovely knit dress, and you don't have to work out something else to do with all that yarn. I vote against frogging the whole skirt in any case. You spent so long on it! Unless you have a grand idea to reuse the yarn, don't create more work for yourself.

    I mark such failures as learning the craft, I’d definitely donate. But I think I’d frog and donate the yarn, if it is itchy. Someone will want it for an outer garment.

    Oh I SO understand. I applaud those who could finish it and give it away but usually if I've gotten to this point (where I hate it and don't want to look at it), I just throw it out. I try not to get to that point, but some projects just don't deserve any additional effort.

    It's disappointing to spend so much time on a project only to realize that you don't like it. My suggestion is to finish it and gift or sell or donate it, especially since you don't like the yarn or the color. Don't waste time on yarn you don't particularly like to work with. The lacework is lovely and someone else will appreciate your hard work.

    The colour is great on you, especially with the muted orange you're wearing underneath. If you don't like the yarn, though, finish it off and either sell it, give it away, or donate it.

    Sometimes, you just have to put a project in time out and go no contact with it for the sake of your own sanity! Cast on something new, and don't make a decision on the reniculous just yet! Give yourself some time to recover from this toxic relationship. 🤣

  • @theresagenser9582

  • @maureenkirby514

    Let it go, you don't like the feel of the yarn, you have other projects to finish, let the yarn go to a knitter who can repurpose it. Subtract it from the destash and move onward!

    If you don't even like the colour why would you keep any of it at all? Ripping back to make it a sweater just leaves you with yarn that you would never make into anything else. I vote donate the entire thing.

    I've been thinking more and more about a woollen petticoat, for an extra layer of warmth over cotton but under my outer layer. Perhaps you could do something like that with the wool? Or, if you really hate the blue, a)dye it to a more preferred colour, or b) donate it for someone else to love.

    Just size it and give it away to a follower. No need to invest any more time or energy, physical or mental, in this project. It was an experience, you’ve been there and done that now, it’s time to let it go. Release with love.

    Finish it as a sweater and donate the rest of the yarn. If you hate the color and the feel of it, there is no point in trying to save it for something else. I, personally am giving you permission to move on from this traumatic experience ❤. Cleanse your palette with something that sparks joy!

    Possibly sell it? I think it looks lovely but maybe as you say it is not your style. I think the colour and shape might suit someone else better, however I don't think it necessarily looks bad on you!
