Some people are blessed with naturally perfect singing voices and this lady is one of them. I first saw her in movies and I always thought she would make a great singer, just from hearing her deliver lines on screen.
I just watched this video and oh my God, she is as you said 10 months ago. Nothing less than "The most amazing woman on this earth or may I add, any other Earth" I never heard of her before. I love her to pieces.
I have a definite affliction for Dorothy Collins original performance in this role and this song... but I have to say Christine Rocks! Have loved her forever... and although this version has been modified and updated, love the way that she does it!
As most live performers do from time to time Rusty - no one is perfect; nor does it negate her raw talent. Do you know many takes most stars need (including Christine) when it isn't live? It is simply more noticeable when you can't cut and have a scene edited out. For many people, those glances of "being human" allow them to connect with well known performers. I am not understanding your point.
Baranski appears to be channeling Ruth Gordon at times here. Isn't she great? Not my favorite version of this great song, but it's a wonderful version of it. Close enough.
Wasn't Polly Bergen usually *actually* drunk in this role? I thought she was the one they'd swing out after the number because she couldn't go on? Or am I mistaken (NOT STRITCH)
Actually, the song was written for a sexy, forty something Yvonne de Carlo - playing the only character in the show who became (and remains) a star and survives by constantly reinventing herself. ("Haven't you heard? I'm in some goddamn TV show.")
Well, I really like her, especially in "Cybill", but I think she is still a bit too young for this song. Stritch is really great in it and my other choice is Ann Miller!
Thought she was a dude until I realized who it was, Christine Baranski. It has to be because of her make up and arms are nicely ripped a bit (muscles). She'd make a good drag queen.
She's great. I hate burnett's version and I think she's better than Elaine Paige, whom I love, but I prefer my Sondheim done by non singers. See Glynis johns send info the clowns.
I'm a fan of her acting, but she had a very strange affect in this performance. She may have been loaded. And I don't ever recall hearing her sing worse. Weird pronunciations, too (like "her" 4:58). And she actually managed to beat Burnett's miserable final notes!!!
am I the onlyone obsessed with her perfect arms?
Christine Baranski is always amazing.
After seeing her in Mama Mia I had to find out who she is and a whole world opened up to me. Love her............
She is without a doubt the most amazing woman on this earth.

Her Subtle Judy Garland Impression in this is BRILLIANT!
must be too subtle for me ... does she do it at a particular moment in the song. or throughout?
@@robh2001throughout. Her characterization is very much based on Judy in her older boozy days
Underappreciated talent!
LOVE THIS LADY IN ANYTHING...
I love the way she perfectly executed the intro lines to the song! She really sold the comedy aspect of it! Bravo 👏🤗🤩
I. LOVE. THIS. WOMAN ♥
Christine is so amazing! She has the most amazing voice!

What a priceless treasure- thank you for sharing this!
What an accomplished actress...Truly amazing!!
Great.... it is such a well written song that so many interpretations are possible.... this is great....
Wait what? The good wife woman does broadway too? Amazing!
And the song was originally written for Lily Munster.
She's fabulous.
She's amazing!
I like her interpretation of this song because it has a jaded, world-weary quality.
Thank you for posting this!
She is unstoppable.
Fantastic.
i looooooooooooooove her !
Love her❤
Un attrice eccezionale, sa cantare ,recitare , muoversi ed è pure simpatica.
A me piace tantissimo
she sang this in an interview so im here.... again
LOVE THIS!!! Hard to beat Elaine Stritch, but this is really good too. Thanks for posting. I didn't even know she played this.
HER VIBRATO IS SO TASTY
Fuck yea...best version EVER
Dorothy Collis played Sally. It was Yvonne de Carlo who played Carlotta in the 1971 cast.
Sondheim specifically wrote the song for de Carlo.
@rinnah1168 I get the same feeling whenever I hear her sing!
I have a definite affliction for Dorothy Collins original performance in this role and this song... but I have to say Christine Rocks! Have loved her forever... and although this version has been modified and updated, love the way that she does it!
Dorothy Collins played Sally, not Carlotta.
+ATLBrysco
Yvonne De Carlo was great as the original Carlotta
+iodine125 Possibly because she was really just singing about her life. To say she didn't have it easy is a colossal understatement.
Did you see her in person? A book about the run of the show says she forgot her lyrics during performances here and there. Just went blank.

@KittixReddie Totally agree with you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
actors sing.singers act.
This is a good song for her…
She resembles Tina Louise here and I can imagine this as Tina's Gilligan's island Movie star "Ginger Grant" singing this.
what year was thisa
Who is this lady ? She's terrific.
Wasn't her character SUPPOSED to be loaded???
She has a certain drag queen quality here. Must be the Kabuki makeup.
+Geoff Scheinbach It's the way the lights show on camera.
I was just gonna say she's my favorite drag queen!
This song is written for drag queens, in a sense
she almost looks possessed at times
El sonido no está bien, ella estupenda -es una pena --gran cantante-
Glee

LMAO I really hope that's true.
WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT ..I HAVE A CLIP OF POLLY SINGING THIS AND SHE WAS GREAT...
0:32 4:58
She's so much better than bebe neuwirth i swear
Weird comparison, but okay
LOVE CHRISTINE.However , she is
too young for this song
This song is for a over the hill
Broad , not someone still at
the top of their form .

great actors DO broadway! those who can't act in a play or musical, which are the hardest performances for an actor, aren't real actors...
Great actors do films too. And the best of actors work in both mediums.
She's great. I hate burnett's version and I think she's better than Elaine Paige, whom I love, but I prefer my Sondheim done by non singers. See Glynis johns send info the clowns.
Agreed! For Sondheim I prefer actors who sing not so much singers who act.
After Shirley Bassey tried this, no one else exists for me...
Stop moving the damn camera.
I'm a fan of her acting, but she had a very strange affect in this performance. She may have been loaded. And I don't ever recall hearing her sing worse. Weird pronunciations, too (like "her" 4:58). And she actually managed to beat Burnett's miserable final notes!!!
I hate this ad.
elaine strich did it better
luv her. but her tv show is crap
