      Russia has made it illegal to publish or discuss “fake news” about the pandemic in the country, a decision that critics say could be used to muzzle independent media reports that contradict the government’s official statements.
      President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly told citizens that the pandemic is “under control”, despite claims from a doctors’ association linked to opposition activists that the government has covered up the scale of the medical crisis.

      www.rferl.org/a/kremlin-spokesman-peskov-covid-19-hospitalized/30607903.html
      Peskov's wife told the news website Daily Storm that she also tested positive for COVID-19 and was in the hospital with her husband.
      Peskov is the latest high-ranking Russian official to test positive for the virus, which has also infected Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, and Construction Minister Vladimir Yakushev.
      The last time Peskov was seen in public was on April 30, the day Mishustin announced he had tested positive.
      The announcement comes just a day after Putin said Russia had been successful in slowing the rate of infections and announced an easing of some of the nationwide lockdown restrictions instituted to slow the pace of the outbreak.

    Jesus is that missile trying to take down a satellite

    • @johnbrown9181
      @johnbrown9181 6 років тому +79

      The USSR actually launched a 1MW anti-satellite satellite (Полюс - polyous or polyus) in 1978, though it failed to reach orbit due to a software error (caused mainly by a rushed schedule). It was intended to destroy Regan's 'Star Wars' (SDI) satellites.
      Russia currently has the Nudol, which is a ground-launched anti-ballistic missile that doubles as a anti-satellite weapon, and has been tested at least twice.

      John Brown that's pretty cool

    • @johnbrown9181
      @johnbrown9181 6 років тому +7

      The most interesting part is probably the Energiya/Energia rocket it launched on - it could carry 100 tonnes to LEO (Low Earth Orbit) in the configuration that was flown, though it could also be used in another configuration for upto 170 tonnes into LEO - which would given it the largest payload of any rocket ever flown.
      It was the result of a compromise between two design bureaus - the Energiya/Energia (from which the rocket got it's name) design bureau, who's chief Valintin Glushco had a pet project of trying to build a lunar base (this was not something he got much funding for), and another design bureau (I forget the name) that was trying to clone the US's Space Shuttle (abbreviated STS after the project it originally came from), who got a lot of funding (it should also be noted this is the only case of copying in the USSR's space program).
      The bureau trying to clone STS wanted to make it as similar as possible, while Glushco wanted to build a system that could also be used for his lunar missions (which obviously never happened). In the end, they came to the compromise of building a huge launch vehicle, which looks somewhat like STS's external tank and boosters, but with four liquid-fueled boosters rather than two solid-fueled boosters, and with four engines on the bottom of the tank. Any large payload could then be attached to the side.

    • @johnbrown9181
      @johnbrown9181 6 років тому +21

      Yes, antisatellite weapons are mainly useful for destroying early-warning satellites, at which point a nuclear war would most likely be imminent, if not in progress.
      > Not to mention civilian deaths if the debris hits population centers
      Ah no. Tiny bits of debris would easily burn up in the atmosphere (remember, they're traveling at 8km per second, and that energy is turned into heat), and it's unlikely any part of the satellite would touch the ground.

    • @ZeleKnez
      @ZeleKnez 6 років тому +4

      Anti satellite weapons would most likely destroy US GPS satellites. Also early warning satellites would be destroyed, but mainly you need to destroy what guides US rockets. Without GPS or GPS alike satellites USA would not be able to guide their rockets.
      Russians deployed Iskander missal out in the open to bait a US spying satellite, because Russians didnt know US spy satellite locations, so they deployed ISkander missal and at night US spy satellite came above and Russians locked on it than simply removed Iskander deployment. Now US spy satellite is being tracked by Russians. Smart.

      You sure it cant? S125 shot down and f117. And S300 is more than capable of shooting down the b2. They are not using the first gen S300. " For example the radar is operating in a different band like S-300 regiment unit, the benefits of stealth become greatly reduced. As soon as the plane is engaged by any means and starts to maneuver stealth disappears"

    Fakking great job again! From what i heard, the S-400, if deployed on Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea, can "defend" almost all of the Baltic Sea area and large portions of the mainland (like Sweden, Finland, the Baltic States and Poland).
    Also read from a Nato paper (that was suposed to have litle to no spread) that Russian SAMs are almost 10 years ahead of Western forces. We in the West have slept that time away!
    Sad.

    • @CovertCabal
      @CovertCabal  6 років тому +34

      +TheSuperKnug If you're talking about large aircraft with low maneuverability like tankers, AEW, etc then yes it'd cover most the Baltic sea and half of Sweden. But it would stand very little chance shooting down fighters at that distance. Alot of people only talk about the range, but it's alot more complicated than that.
      But I agree with the second part. The US and the West in general has fell behind in air defense (not counting ballistic missile defense). They have only the short range stinger and the bulky Patriot. The Patriot requires a whole bunch of hardware to work as well, they need the AMG (comms), ECS (control), EPP (power), MPQ-53 (radar), and launchers. Whereas the S-300/400 is just radars, control post, and launchers.
      The US and western nations kinda fell behind after the cold war ended. The threats they faced didn't have any credible air threats they needed to deal with. They started a few programs like MEADS but ended up canceling them.
      But to be fair, the US and also European nations have put alot of effort and funding into their navy's air defense with weapons like the SM-6, ESSM, Aster 15/30

    • @evanbrown2594
      @evanbrown2594 6 років тому +10

      There isn't a threat that the current SAM systems in use with NATO can't deal with. Newest PAC-2 upgrades working with PAC 3 along with Aster can handle really anything current that the Russian federation is likely to throw at it in any potential European conflict. Which is massively unlikely.
