- Mexican Composer Carlos Chávez was asked by William F. Cramer to compose a concerto for Trombone. He finished it in 1977 and it was premiered by Per Brevig at Kennedy Center, Washington DC conducted by the composer at the age of 78 and three months before his death due to Cancer.

I think this can be called a 'late work'. It seems a distillation of his styles.
En México tenemos grandes genios y el ejemplo es Carlos Chávez pero al parecer aqui nomás conocen a Juan Gabriel y a Vicente Fernández que se dicen compositores es una lástima que aquí no haya capacidad para apreciar a grandes genios.
