The last time when I was in Indonesia, I saw their local news reporting that a young man had defended himself with his martial arts (Silat) skills and had killed 😳 one of the 2 armed bandits who wanted to take his motorcycle. the news reporter said that the local police did not arrest this young man but awarded him a charter.
yes, very viral. the young man was a santri (islamic student) who was robbed by 2 begals (bandits), he defended himself using silat techniques, seized a sharp weapon belonging to the begals and killed one of the begals. The incident happened at the Summarecon Bekasi flyover.
About the police award though, it's just like that if it's being viral. Most of the time our police did stupid and charge people for defending themselves. Our police is best at making a charge out of nothing and ask for bribe later if people want out.
Silat is an underexposed martial arts due to how dangerous it can be. Medieval period in Nusantara (Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore & Philippines) was a little bit different than most countries. War was treated differently in Nusantara, in which I mean, normally when you think of medieval wars, most likely you would think of an open battlefield where both sides duke it out. However Nusantara was different, war was all about assassination here, that's why the countries in Nusantara doesn't really have much fancy traditional weapons like China or Japan, our traditional weapons are small because the medieval fighters of Nusantara have always been fighting as assassins rather than warriors. They usually fight in the forest trying to ambush each other, so small weapons is always preferable, and that was the background for Silat's development. Silat is a martial arts that aim to turn your entire body into a weapon, and make every hits the killing blow. It aims for your vital points to take you out as quickly and efficiently as possible, after all again, it's a technique used by Nusantara assassins, and now is used by the special forces from Nusantara countries That's why in today's MMA competitions, we almost never see anyone using Silat techniques. Because yes, they're pretty much banned to be used in sports competitions for being too lethal and dangerous, which is understandable tbh, even here in it's land of origin, Nusantara, Silat techniques needs to be put under heavy restrictions in any competitions featuring it
Yes Kali from the Philippines is prohibited, most of moves are ban and fatal, in Kali, there is no rules, as long as you win, that's why it is practical in street fight.

Most silat training is live action role playing against compliant opponents. I trained extensively all throughout Indonesia between 1974 and 1982 - culminating in taking Gold at the inaugural World Silat Championships in Jakarta. The only athletes that made it past the first round, were one that did bagwork, roadwork and daily sparring - the rest were wiped out with little to no ceremony.
Yup. Guessed so too. Live resistance is crucial. Far too many silat styles either became too soft and doesnt pressure test, or they become more sport, point scoring than actual fighting
@@de0509 Any martial art that doesn’t have regular sparring sessions included in their curriculum won’t prepare you for a real fight. Having said that, a lot of silat schools (especially those small ones in rural areas) do spar a lot. It’s common for students to come home cut and bruised after a training session.
@@saifaldin_ "cuts and bruises" is a bad indicator to gauge how much live resistance was used. People still get bruises by standing still while letting the partner do any particular techniques to them. Just because someone gets bruises it doesnt mean they learnt anything that they can use when the real situations happen.
That's why, back in the day, when I joined the Merpati Putih silat Dojo, it was not allowed for sports fighting... We once had a friendly match with karate, and we were confused because my coach prohibited us from striking using breathing techniques. Their strikes, as they were used to training their muscles rigorously, were very powerful, and we couldn't do anything since we were accustomed to training strikes with breathing techniques. Because I didn't want to become a punching bag with continuous kicks, I decided to strike using the breathing technique just once. It turned out that my strike indeed caused my opponent to faint, which frightened me, and I received a punishment from the coach of 50 push-ups. Fortunately, my opponent recovered without having to be taken to the hospital... despite my immense fear. I was just a 13-year-old kid at that time.

Many martial artists would describe Silat as pure violence, it is extremely fast and efficient. The basic idea is that you are hitting a soft part of your opponent's body with a hard part of your body. It is very focused on self-defense and although the sport form of it has rules, the applied part does not. I find it to be kind of like a combination of Muay Thai and Arnis, it is very similar to Filipino martial arts and yes, does require a serious investment of time. Real lineage holding teachers of Silat are not very common in the US.
you got the idea, hitting the soft part of body is the right answer of silat. like stab the eyes, take care of genital, and front of the neck. those 3 part is the keys when street fighting.
Original silat is not meant to self defense, its purely to assasinating opponent, the idea is attacking most vulnerable body part, and finish opponent as fast as possible, its include gauging eye, kicking testicel, or hitting on throat or back of the head. And most of the time it use dagger, machete, or sickle. That is what I know about silat in old day. Thats why it will not efficient in this day espescially for bare handed match with much regulation. CMIIW
The original Indonesian silat is a martial art that relies on speed and agility, the focus of the silat movement is to aim for the vital point. A fighter in the past used a gambit, dagger, machete to quickly eliminate the enemy.
In silat there are not many unnecessary acrobatic movements like other oriental martial arts, but it also doesn't look stiff like western martial arts. the movement is beautiful but deceptive and deadly, once you get hit, you will feel a chain attack without being able to fight back. what is more terrifying is silat arts with weapons, you will not die in an instant but die slowly and painfully.
Unlike karate or taekwondo which was used for sport, pencak silat is fully used for combat. Most of the trainers here in Indonesia teach techniques that could be used to kill. they teach them to their disciple until they mastered it and can control how to execute it without killing their opponent. The most similar martial art would be thai kick boxing but silat also teach grapple and weapon combat. Even the special force here in Indonesia is taught silat.
Pencak Silat is the umbrella term for all styles of silat in Indonesia. One of the style is Silat Harimau (Tiger Silat from Minangkabau tribe) in West Sumatera. You can see it in Merantau. The first film of Iko Uwais. Yayan Ruhian also in there. The other style is Silat Betawi. This is the original silat style of Iko Uwais. He is from Tiga Berantai, Jakarta. A silat school founded by his Grandfather. Another style is Silat Sunda. This is the original style of Cecep Arif Rahman. His silat school is Panglipur. Yayan Ruhian also has his own silat school. There are many other styles of silat in Indonesia. But I don't really know in detail. Silat became popular in the world after the success of The Raid films.
I love Silat, but in our area, we don't have access to learn it. On the contrary, the Boxing gyms are everywhere.Hope the Silat will be popularized as soon as possible.
Boxing is good enough for self defense in most cases. You don't want to accidentally cripple someone with Silat because you target their weak point and went too far in heat of the moment. Fight that could just ended with bleeding nose and bruises would end with broken bones and life changing injury with Silat. Learn boxing and just knock them out, a lot safer that way.
Boxing should always be a base for self-defense training. Boxing allows you to knock people out with your hands, teaches you to hit hard, fast, and often while also learning to avoid punches. Boxing also gets you used to taking taking a punch while also conditioning you athletically to be leaner and stronger. After a year of boxing if you want to add to it take up another style.
Here in Indonesia and Malaysia, most silat class especially the lethal one were kept secret and often taugh in smaller circle with years of filtration process. Unlike muay thai which accessible to most of the people
I've been practicing Silat since I was a kid and trained in several style. My issue with Silat is if you love in a war torn area or where lives a re cheap then Silat is very very effective. But if you live in a relatively peace an law full environment then it's a bit hard. Because I have to beat my opponent without inflict a huge fatal damage. Our style of training made us instinctly resort to the easiest but at the same time most brutal technique. And it's very hard to soften or change that instinct. Once in a weapon spar I hit my partner eyes, luckily it was paded weapon but still it sucks and i really feel sorry. People says all the time they want to learn deadly technique and stuffs, but seriously, it sucks when it's already grinded inside you and you (me in this case) have anger management issue
Silat is dangerous if you dont have full control of your strength and power. You will need to find inner peace before learning dangerous techniques. And i get what you're saying.
@@skymyth6927 the problem is I've been training this since I was a kid and now I'm in my forties so I already learned those dangerous things. it's happen to me too.. I just happened to learn an ancient style of silat about 10 years a go. at first I want to learn the very effective and lethal silat. But now I'm afraid of it. the unconscious movement/muscle memory that built by this style very scary. e.g I've poked my friends eye till it bleed when I playing around, I throw my baby daughter when she approach and hug me while I'm sleep, etc. now I really afraid to engage a some kind of fight.. even it's only for fun.
@@cancangsikamba true.. I dislocated my friend elbow for playing surprise prank on me. It was never my intention to harm him and he didn't know that I was a silat practitioner during my younger year. I’d add, “learn good manners and use them.” Possibly the most legit dangerous martial artist/street fighter I ever met would apologize to a person who stepped on his foot, because his foot was in the way. FTR, he didn’t do that when we were younger; seldom started fights but always quickly and brutally finished them. When I asked him why he started doing that he said, “Most men aren’t the fighters they think they are. They win a few schoolyard scuffles, get a taste for what they think is violence, turn into bullies. Then they run up on someone like me. It’s not fun to beat up someone who can’t defend themselves and doesn’t know it yet…”

Depending on which silat you learn, if it's a sports branch it's a little bit softer, but if it's purely self defences, it will inflict injuries for the opponent/enemy during both attacks and defense.

I'm curious, how often do you use weapons in your form of Silat? I ask because I am going to spend some time in SE Asia and I intend to find a gym (Gym? Dojo? Other name?) to learn Silat in. The main attraction for me is to become more effective at using weapons as an addition to my survival hobby, but I'm not sure how soon an instructor will begin teaching weapon techniques. I see quite a few things I learnt in Ju Jitsu in these clips, a lot of the blocks, grappling and strangles, for example. It looks like an effective self defence system, albeit a complex one.
Because those forms are effective. That's why they pop up in many arts/jutsu/jitsu, not necessary one is copying the other. There's a video in UA-cam about this, "there's only 3 martial arts that works" or something like that in the vid's title. Kali from the Philippines and silat are almost similar, very practical and realistic moves during actual fight, moves in Combat Kali are fatal, in modern day we call it Arnis or Eskrima, today Kali is the official martial arts of Special Action Force. As one of practicioner, l'd say the _Old School_ Pencak Silat is effective for self defence or a street fight because Pencak Silat is originaly a close quarter combat technique which created purely to fight and kill during a war against a colonialism in the past. Inflict less _Art or Flashy_ moves, but deliver More Pain. But a _Modern_ Pencak Silat nowadays mostly just for show/art purpose. Js
Why you dont see people who practice this Art in more MMA platforms is because this Art is very overwhelming on oneself that it would require its user as a whole, and from the getgo, this arts attacks points for quick death or perm breakage of joints and ligaments in its true form. So you cant apply this skill other than real life self defence situations..
If the true form is practiced in MMA, more livers will be ruptured, kidneys squashed, vertebrates slipped, bones broken, joints dislocated, hearts stopped even before the fighter had the chance to tap out or the referee stops the fight.

I learned pencak silat for a while. Some of techniques are potentially lethal or leaves lasting damages. It's rather hard to go all out for the worry of fellow trainer's wellbeing.
of course, like this would be very useful in a home invasion, or some other kind of self defence where someone is trying to kill you, but I imagine it’s hard to practice since you wouldn’t want to hurt the other trainer
aku tak cakap silat ni indo malay atau brunei punya tapi Silat ni Melayu punya seni bela diri dan melayu ada di Indo,Malay dan Brunei. sudahi perkelahian kalian. Silat ini kita punya bersama
Silat is one of deadliest martial art. For me as a student of Muay Thai, there are 2 top martial arts : 1. Silat 2. Muay Thai Silat for grappling and locking. While Muay Thai good for conditioning and striking. If these two martial arts combine it will be unstoppable
After a lot of searching for the best Martial Art to practice. I ended up that Muay Thai would be the best to practice for real street fighting. Also, I had some curiosity about silat, then I saw your comment that combining the two at the same time! The results for searching is that Muay Thai and Silat would be the best approach if they were combined. This would be my plan to practice both of them. I also intend to travel to Indounesia and Thiland to practice them after couple of years, at the stage that I'll seek advanced knowledge and practicng in deep.
@@MH2012100 Sure, you can find silat in many regions in South East Asia such as Southern Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia and others. Why I said we need silat becoz silat have kind of grappling technic and good ground game. Even one of Muay Chaiya's master Pedro Solana said in ground fighting he will use silat.
Silat is not from indonesia. Its from the nusantara. Whether its indonesia, malaysia or brunei we all share this form of art. Also thats not how you say pencak silat. Pen as in 'pen' cak as in 'chuck' si as in 'see' and lat as in well lat😂😂 idk other words that sounds like lat
Most people says that silat and muay thai is the art of killing. But actually it's not. It's an art of torture. Silat and muay thai practitioners didn't use lethal moves that killed their opponent on first strike. Their move is intended to break bones, dislocating joints and deliver a powerful strike that can cause internal bleeding and damages to the organs. Of course someone would end up dying if they fight against silat or muay thai master. But before they die, they would suffer a lot of pain with the time they still have to inhale their last breath.
Yea our weapon also created that way for slowly death..if keris been stick to your stomach when full our your organ will be pull it out too.. if they the fighter didnt want to pull like that they stab and left you died bcs of poison on the weapon..thats why keris own by some body in society not regular citizen either king, royal family or fighter for country or those who work for king/sultan.
Silat saved me twice when I was beaten by thugs while walking alone. Btw, my martial arts style is a little different. Like village martial arts, and running at night in the forest.
ther's plenty of move that got erased due to policy on the ring. Pencak Silat have alot of brutal moves, like put finger on ur eyeballs, kick ur nut, throat and more. the goals is to knocked the opponent as fast as possible for silent ambush...
As an Indonesian, this video makes me appreciate Silat more than before. I just realized how strong our traditional martial art is. And it makes me want to start learn about it. Thanks for the video 🙏🏻
Nope...the best martial art combination for person, is like this...Boxing+Muay Thai+Judo+Silat. If you combine this 4 martial arts...you can become unstoppable.
@@pesmobilemalaysia8097 Boxing + Muay Thai + Judo + Silat. Which means Punch techniques + Elbow & knee techniques + Throw techniques + Disarm & Lock (let go/dislocate/break it option) technique, right?? Actually, scratch the first two since they are useless in real life emergency combat unless you're in a ring trying to rack up points. Focus only on the last two or any similar martial arts.
@@lagubrok92 Boxing and Muay Thai are effective...when you in small space and must 1 by 1 against enemy. When you can hit opponent to the face, you can fall your enemy down. Plus...you can lock, take down, and also..grap the enemy. Thats why i said...this combination are unstoppable.
@@enaquasanitas7017 for power punches and kick, you can learnt it from Boxing and Muaythai. But..if you wanna take down the enemy with knife, or unarmed, you can get it..from Silat. And if you wanna lock and grap your enemy, you get it from Judo, or another martial art are similar to Judo..like Jiu Jitsu or something else.
@@pesmobilemalaysia8097 Sure it would be great to have all of them. Only not many people had enough money nor time to attend the different said courses. So the first two are really wasting most people's time and money. Unless money and time is not an issue, by any means go ahead and take every course available. Good for you. For those who have limited time and budget, just get the last two courses or similar martial arts. Emphasize on disarming, grappling, locking and throwing. Anything else is supplementary. Counter, delay the attacker, and run for help as fast as you can. Real life situation is not like movies or tournaments. It won't give you points or marks, but only fatal risks to your life.
The actual silat originated from South East Asia has many variants and names. However modern silat is divided into 4 types: 1. Close to performing arts such as silat movements for show. 2. Silat for sport, to make it non lethal and acceptable for point-base in competitions. 3. Silat for self defence, the most popular type that mainly focuses on physical reactions to neutralise opponents with some harmful counter attacks. 4. Silat for attack, permissable for a few selected student after mastering type 3 above. This type is too dangerous that may result to longterm disability or fatality and usually involving spiritual training. As of few years back, only the special military units of Indonesia & Malaysia were lucky to be trained in this ultimate silat.
do not bring the name of Malaysia to claim to be Indonesian, Silat only comes from Indonesia to be more precise, it comes from the Minang Kabau Tribe of West Sumatra, Malaysia is just a part of Indonesia that has betrayed and submitted to the British Colonialists

My grandad and dad learn Silat Serimau Hitam but I dont yikes😅, my dad sent me to taekwondo class. Its a combination of five types of Silat that found throughout Malaysian Peninsular including Singapore. The five I think its called Silat Wali Suci, Silat Jawa, Silat Cekak, Silat Sambarani and Silat Gayong. Some of the kicks from my taekwondo training are very similar to the kicks that my dad demonstrate but more technical I would say. Taekwondo kicks I would say...flashy? I didnt say Taekwondo is bad, it do damage. Broke my nose once and ribs twice. But Silat is more focus on getting out of trouble as humanly possible. idk if this make sense.
Im not hating on it but it looks too flashy and choreographed, I would much rather take something like grappling/boxing/muay Thai/ judo in an event of coming against an armed assailant and one of the main things is if you defend yourself against someone with a weapon, expect to get cut because it’s rare that you won’t. Real life encounters aren’t as simple as someone coming at you a certain way so bend him this way, do this, do that, flip him, choke him. I’m not saying some of it isn’t useful but I would take the striking and less of the fancy stuff
Its art of pain and momentum! Every movement and, angel, locks and reverses are possible and Silat brings a lot of ground breaking fundamentals to the table plus tons of never ending techniques. Its nothing like other martial arts. You're essentially trying to break enemy down by causing lethal strikes and techniques to incapacitate him quick! With lots of pain! Youre trying to be as brutal as much as possible while maintaining posture!
Sadly this is true in my style of training. While many people fantasize about this, for me it cause problem because when shit happen I have to really control myb reaction not to inflict fatal damage otherwise I will be in jail
@@kenyanggalaper5790 hahaa lol Indonesia always have to say them are the founder eh. I think you guys should looked at yourself first and build a better country compare to other neighbors. Also F for you since your history only consist of Indonesia lol.
im 18 now and i wanna learn silat, not just for self defence but its also very intresting, but i feel like im to old to learn it, and that i ahve started sooner. what yall think? go to silat classes or nah?
i started when i was 24 and at my 1st year i saw people at age 50 just got started it s never late for silat you just need to put the effort and never give up the onlie bad thing about silat is almost 90% of the skills you learn you can t use it in street fight because those skills will 100% kill your opponent or make a really high damage that he can t recover from
He's right 40 years of training and I started with two combat vet instructors. Silat and Kali respectively 90% of what I learned can't be used in any sport under any circumstances. I used it in the streets of Chicago. That training and the fact that I'm ambidextrous and fighting is almost the only place where this is an advantage opened up a world of opportunities for me. Got me dragged in front of a judge many times as well but self defense is self defense.
What were the differences you found between Silat and Kali? Does one of them have more of a focus on weapons than the other? Do you have any stories of yourself using either of these arts in self-defence that you'd be willing to give a play-by-play analysis of?
@@josephmonkele5992 I'd say it's the approach Silat being empty hands that transitions to weapons and Kali being weapons that transitions to empty hands. One of the worst situations regarding self defense was coming to the aid of a woman on the train platform. All I had was a Kubotan or palm stick keychain. I intervened and they immediately attacked. However them being right handed is a disadvantage I've been taking advantage of since before any training. Move to a certain side and they all react the same way. A quick body slam on the platform. You ever heard the sound of a dislocated arm? It's louder than one expects. Unlike the movies they don't continue fighting after that. The problem came when I rushed the last one and he did the usual tackle and ended up falling after he got hit in the temple with the palm stick keychain. Well that and I stomped the first idiot in the head. There were cameras and my actions while noble were considered overkill. It wasn't the guy falling but rather the head stomp that was considered an issue. Honestly if either had died they probably would have tried sending me to prison. Honestly the victim kept claiming it was racism because the two rapist were white and I'm a Native American. In the end they called it self defense because even though they weren't attacking me initially there were two and they were both larger. That was over 25 years ago
@@tonytomahawk5160 i cant imagine that theres situation that you will use silat to fight someone, i understand why you stomp one of your enemies head cause that is what silat do, to finish them off.. The more we train our body the more our body remember the moves and it will be like a natural reflect of the body to excecute some moves at certain situation without thinking, the problem is silat movement is really to kill the enemy, and stomping head will also become reflect movement, cause thats what youre training for.. Maybe if you use another martial art you can stop at just making them unable to fight or unconscious but if you use silat its lethal..
@@hendradewanata That's what I knew. That's what I was trained for by combat vet's to survive the reality of Chicago. Two against me and both larger and possible armed is a pretty good reason to me. To me stomping his skull in was just a normal part of eliminating a threat. I never trained in sports fighting and honestly I didn't think I did anything wrong. Even when they showed me the video my first response was I held back so he should be alive so I don't see the problem. However I've gained control as I aged so I do understand there were other things that I could have done but I still have the same mentality I was trained with. I still can't do the sports fighting thing though. These days I train in things like Krav Maga just because it's less volatile than Silat. But yeah Silat is to eliminate a threat by either dislocate break and kill. I prefer peace but if violence is the choice then I will eliminate the threat.
for your guys information, silat is martial art origin in nusantara, its not from indonesia, and malaysia also have silat but in silat there's alot of root,in malaysia we have silat gayung,it is the most popular in malaysia. In malaysia only we have 360 type of silat, and Indonesia is very good in silat, there's alot of guru in indonesia because we malaysia and indonesia are more like a brother (serumpun) .Love from malaysia.salah dari pesilat gayung tok janggut.
- Pencak silat is a martial art originating from Indonesia that has been designated by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. This determination was made at the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place in Bogota, Colombia, 9-14 December 2019. Pencak silat has existed in Indonesia since ancient times. Many historians reveal that pencak silat was first encountered in Riau province during the era of the Sriwijaya kingdom in the VII century. 🙏🙏
Not from indonesia, but... malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore.... it was used when the country was colonized.. different countries, different founders
I'm Indonesian 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩 And my grandfather was a silat martial arts master. In 1970 he created a new silat school called Sikado (Silat Karate Judo), in East Java.
Sayangnya aku G nanya bang... Aku punya teman kerja di perusahaan...setelah kerja hampir 4 tahun sama dia...aku baru tau kalau dia ketua cabang kota salah satu perguruan silat...orangnya rendah hati.... Punya ilmu diajarkan... Bukan di pamerkan...
Silat has far more in common with vedic styles of warfare and is one of the few martial arts that still retains its combat effectiveness as a war dance. It does not resemble kung fu nearly as much as it resembles muay thai, muay boran, kali, and many other styles to which they borrow heavily in the powerful stances, minimul movements, maximum damage styles. I dont think the video maker here knows what their talking about.
you are very funny, it's true that silat comes from the culture of the archipelago/Nusantara, and the archipelago is not only Indonesia, but what makes silat famous is Indonesia, study again kid
@@amehuh4552 I never talked about who made it famous or what, I was just correcting the info in the video. You should study more. The earliest civilization in malay archipelago is Langkasuka. Modern day Kedah in Malaysia No Indonesia back then, not even Srivijaya
Pencak silat has existed in Indonesia since ancient times. Many historians reveal that pencak silat was first encountered in Riau province during the era of the Sriwijaya kingdom in the VII century. At that time, pencak silat was still simple, in the form of hand and foot movements. This martial art then spread to the Malacca peninsula area to the island of Java.
Correction, silat is not from indonesia. It is a martial arts from nusantara, consists of various countries like malaysia, indonesia, thailand, brunei, phillipines.
Well there is One fighting style that could counter silat and every fighting style, that is hyperboxer, Because hyperboxer is focus on your body armour, strength, agility, durability and critical hit, this style is also known as the most brutal style in the history and hyperboxer is the first fighting style before every style that we know but this one is different, it's hard to learn i mean really hard to learn it because you must receive 100 punch at your body really hard like only few people could learn if you search "what is hyperboxer style" in Google, they will not showing you the picture or how to learn it, because this style can only pass to another generations meaning people who have huge potential is the worthy people to learn hyperboxer and this is really hurting fighting style people who's black belt at hyperboxer, they can easily block silver bullet, the karate move and others dangerous move.

The Bourne Identity movie by Matt Damon his fighting style there was actually Kali from the Philippines but Kali actually has origins from Indonesia . Philippines have something similar to Karate ,Muay Thai called "Sikaran" but I don't see anybody practicing that anymore.
Everytime i heard Pancake Silat, im getting triggered haha. So for you English speaker out there it is supposed to be "Pencak Silat" And the correct way to read it is like this: Pan Chuck Seal At
The last time when I was in Indonesia, I saw their local news reporting that a young man had defended himself with his martial arts (Silat) skills and had killed 😳 one of the 2 armed bandits who wanted to take his motorcycle. the news reporter said that the local police did not arrest this young man but awarded him a charter.
Yes it's true... it's viral though... the young man even don't have a single weapon, but the opponent is dead.
yes, very viral. the young man was a santri (islamic student) who was robbed by 2 begals (bandits), he defended himself using silat techniques, seized a sharp weapon belonging to the begals and killed one of the begals. The incident happened at the Summarecon Bekasi flyover.
About the police award though, it's just like that if it's being viral. Most of the time our police did stupid and charge people for defending themselves. Our police is best at making a charge out of nothing and ask for bribe later if people want out.
True, very viral in my country
That's true, I was the motorcycle. Trust in me.

My teacher is Jaka Sembung. I love silat. I learnt it 100 years ago.
It aims for your vital points to take you out as quickly and efficiently as possible, after all again, it's a technique used by Nusantara assassins, and now is used by the special forces from Nusantara countries
That's why in today's MMA competitions, we almost never see anyone using Silat techniques. Because yes, they're pretty much banned to be used in sports competitions for being too lethal and dangerous, which is understandable tbh, even here in it's land of origin, Nusantara, Silat techniques needs to be put under heavy restrictions in any competitions featuring it
Yes Kali from the Philippines is prohibited, most of moves are ban and fatal, in Kali, there is no rules, as long as you win, that's why it is practical in street fight.
do not bring the name of Malaysia to claim to be Indonesian, Silat only comes from Indonesia to be more precise, it comes from the Minang Kabau Tribe of West Sumatra, Malaysia is just a part of Indonesia that has betrayed and submitted to the British Colonialists

Some forms of silat are so brutal it's illegal to practice. There are types of silat that focuses on hits that can be extremely lethal

I love Silat, but in our area, we don't have access to learn it. On the contrary, the Boxing gyms are everywhere.Hope the Silat will be popularized as soon as possible.
Its easy to access it if you go to a more rural part of a city. Silat is quite cheap to learn compared to Boxing, karate, taekwondo, or Muaythai.
After a year of boxing if you want to add to it take up another style.
why ?.. you want to kill someone?.. nah man .. its illegal ..

We dont have comvinient dojo as today, we practice in the middle off small jungle, no mattres, no tools..just our body.
We did the abdominal punching in my boxing gym as well. I remember when I was new to it, I didn't have the breathing technique down, so I just held my breath until I was seeing stars hahaha. At least I figured it out pretty quickly.
Wrongful breathing technic could cause harm. I've heard one master of silat died because of hipertensi on.
Glad their are martial arts that still maintain their "martial" aspects.
Kali from the Philippines and silat are almost similar, very practical and realistic moves during actual fight, moves in Combat Kali are fatal, in modern day we call it Arnis or Eskrima, today Kali is the official martial arts of Special Action Force. And only elite members are allowed to learn the prohibited moves.
True. in my place, we always consider Kali as one of the styles of silat form.
Do you notice any significant differences between Kali and Silat? And these "prohibited" moves; are there actually complex "killing moves" that are taught to military members, or could a civilian practitioner theoretically perform one of these moves just by using logic? If that makes sense. Like in boxing, we practiced safely; there were no killing moves, but that doesn't mean that a boxer couldn't figure out how to kill someone by curb stomping him after knocking him down. I'm not asking because I'm interested in killing people, lol, I just find it to be interesting.

MMA was created for in cage fighting sport recently. Silat is martial art that's used in real war for centauries, espescially in the region of south east asia. But nowdays silat perform as sport silat which is very limited regulated movement to meet modern sport safety standard. and art silat just like kata in karate.
Fun fact: Recently there was a fight involving silat fighters on the streets of Yogyakarta. Fighting fighters often occur, especially on the island of Java
Js
You did so much research on this art, I am surprised none of it went into how to pronounce Penchak Silat.
For your information..all silat technique is made to kill not for sports like mma..mma had to many rules that all killing technique from silat are forbidden and not allowed in the mma ring
It's prounounced "See-lot" not "Sil Lit". Silat can be a good art depending on the teacher and training methods but like most martial arts schools many Silat schools train with no intent and very little drilling. Just like MMA you need energy drills, some actual resistance or at least practicing timing and putting some resistance in the partner drilling and it can be more applicable.
I think in English pronouns lik be SeeLate

Hahaha 😂
Silat is just another form of martial Art. As a matter of fact, contemporary Silat is no more origional. It has incorperated other techniques of martial arts. It is up to the individual's capabilities. In any martial arts, Speed n Strength is the most Important.
The only useful "martial art" is MMA. Only knowing a single "art" won't save your guts when actually facing someone out to hurt you.
Muay Thai can definitely be dangerous. I say that as someone who has trained in Silat for 20 years as well.

Maul is kuntao silat practitioner which is usually practice in borneo island (Indo, Malay, Brunei). It is silat that focus on full body combat. That's as far as I know

For me, the scariest part of silat is our muscle memory. Most of us learned it since we were 7 or 8. Now when we are older, sudden or any surprise would really trigger those muscle memory and it would really hurt people. It's just pure movements without any thinking. It's like we suddenly do all of this to survive and get out of whatever "trouble" or danger we sense from the surprise.
Maybe some peoples doesn't know what's the different between Silat and Pencak Silat.
Silat is the original technique for killing with many form of lethal blow using hand combat and various kind of weapons, while Pencak Silat is for sport purpose and under heavy restrictions.
Is it true in this video that sliat is very slow to learn effective techniques ???

Most people says that silat and muay thai is the art of killing. But actually it's not. It's an art of torture. Silat and muay thai practitioners didn't use lethal moves that killed their opponent on first strike. Their move is intended to break bones, dislocating joints and deliver a powerful strike that can cause internal bleeding and damages to the organs. Of course someone would end up dying if they fight against silat or muay thai master. But before they die, they would suffer a lot of pain with the time they still have to inhale their last breath.
Maybe, but when they hold a weapon, it's would be another story
Yes .. silat and Muay Thai more to torture than killing.... But, if the attack is done on a weak point, it will also kill

2. Silat for sport, to make it non lethal and acceptable for point-base in competitions.

Silat being empty hands that transitions to weapons and Kali being weapons that transitions to empty hands.

@Abdul Kholafyeah, have fun.. I think in Indonesia much more, maybe 500+ or 1000+ ...
@Abdul Kholaf yeah, try search it up
How much does it cost to finish all of those in years ?
@@hunterxhunter6782 learn to basic silat first. they all has the same moves. and then pick one of the style to suit your bodytype
Luckily the most dangerous & deadly silat was not in the list in both countries. It was a silat that fully based on tiger spirituality. Let the name remain unknown to the world
The Bourne Identity movie by Matt Damon his fighting style there was actually Kali from the Philippines but Kali actually has origins from Indonesia . Philippines have something similar to Karate ,Muay Thai called "Sikaran" but I don't see anybody practicing that anymore.
Everytime i heard Pancake Silat, im getting triggered haha.
So for you English speaker out there it is supposed to be "Pencak Silat"
And the correct way to read it is like this: Pan Chuck Seal At
Pencak silat from Nusantara
