I've been using TrackIR for MSFS for about a year now and it has definitely improved the overall experience. I would highly recommend it, especially if you have a full home cockpit setup with various peripherals such as the RSG 430/530 stack or Logitech FIPs, multipanel and radio stack. One recommendation that I have is that when setting up the TrackIR, you bind the pause and the re-center keys to buttons on your yoke/joystick.
But he said that for seeing back of aircraft we have to turn our head around 90 degrees. But wont it look very unnatural, that we are turning our head 90 degrees and the camera moves 180 but then we have to see the computer screen from corner of our eye as our head is truned 90 degrees?
Track-iR5 and Meta Quest 2 user here. As has been said, there is nothing better than VR for immersion. It's simply amazing and adds just an incredible amount of realism. If your hardware supports it, get it. Head tracking is also a game changer, however you don't get quite the feel for being in the aircraft, but it does make flying and usage much more natural. On long flights wearing the VR headset can get uncomfortable, something that is negligible with a cap or headset supporting Track-iR. I have the Trak clip pro as well as the standard clip, and have no issues using the clip in my basement room with 4 sunlight bulbs. Once you've configure and tweaked the Track-iR settings you're all set, as SimHanger mentioned.
I’ve owned Trackir for I don’t remember for how long now, and couldn’t fly without it. I also purchased VR some years ago as well and couldn’t believe how immersive VR made the simming experience. I flew VR for a long time exclusively and though I’d never go back to using a monitor. However, we moved house about a year ago and I didn’t quite have the space to set up the sensors so I’ve gone back to using Trackir 5 again. For me now the fidelity of the monitor and trackir is far more satisfying than the blurred experience of VR. So until VR can provide that same clarity especially in the cockpit, I’ll stay with Trackir.
FYI - the Varjo Aero is very close to monitor detail level. Aero is actually better for reading instruments because of the resolution of the headset combined with everything appearing much larger/closer in VR. Unfortunately at $2500 - $3000 for a complete setup it's out of reach for most consumers but it does bode well for the future of VR.
I really enjoy using trackir. Your review is spot on, but if I may add, be aware that sunlight can have a negative impact on the performance. I have two windows in my room that created havoc at first. I replaced the window shades with light blocking style. Depending on the time of day, I can adjust the shades to keep trackir working perfectly. Enjoy your flights!!!
That's an important thing to keep in mind. My own TrackiR was going absolutely batty and I thought it was defective. After turning down a lamp that was directly behind me, my TrackiR worked perfectly.
But he said that for seeing back of aircraft we have to turn our head around 90 degrees. But wont it look very unnatural, that we are turning our head 90 degrees and the camera moves 180 but then we have to see the computer screen from corner of our eye as our head is truned 90 degrees?
I've been a TrackIR user since day one, and a Pimax 8KX and Reverb G2 user since the day they hit the market. Like other commenters here have said, nothing beats VR for the immersion, and nothing beats the TrackIR/monitor for clarity and performance. I intend to keep them BOTH and use one or the other depending on the mood I'm in! I WILL say that TrackIR is at it's very best when used with a thin-bezel three-monitor setup!
I went with a Tobii Eye tracker5 , for me personally I find it much better than TrackIR. No wires, no hats, just attaches to the bottom of the screen, job done. With MSFS, it's absolutely seamless because there is no software to download (plug it in, Windows Update installs the drivers) and all the config is done in-sim. Downside is that it's expensive, but comparing it to my TrackIR, it's worth it.
Head tracking has its benefits, but VR is hands-down the most realistic experience to be had. I fly in VR almost exclusively these days. There is no greater sense of immersion to be had. The only reason I would consider head tracking over VR is only as a temporary stop-gap while VR developers get serious about VR and develop virtual desktops that work well with MSFS. If you use 3rd party, stand-alone tools when flying (and what serious simmer doesn’t), then VR becomes cumbersome, having no real way of utilizing those tools in the VR environment, instead having to peak out of your goggles to use your desktop. That’s where head-tracking shines, enabling you to freely use a second monitor to use your utilities, and allowing you to scan your cockpit and horizon without fumbling with shortcut keys to get the view you desire. However, to reiterate, there simply is nothing more convincing of realism than VR. There is nothing more satisfying than the sense of true 3 dimensionality that has you reaching out your hand to grab your throttle and it actually being there. I’m watching this video to gain yet another fresh perspective on the merits of head tracking, because I’ve recently stumbled on a utility that I’d really like to use that doesn’t exist in the VR environment (Pilot 2 ATC). LittleNavMap is another great tool that cannot be accessed in VR as far as I know. Another benefit of headtracking is that it is relatively inexpensive and easy to set up, so it might be a good choice for anyone who presently does not have the budget (or horsepower) to run VR.
@@SHOCKSTRUT Not nearly as good. Nonetheless, much more enjoyable IMHO. Occasionally I switch out of VR to a regular screen and it feels like I'm eating pancakes without the syrup and butter.
FYI - the Varjo Aero has a feature called "Application Background" that allows you to use your desktop within VR. You can freely scale and place the monitor view and place it where you want. Keyboard and mouse input are directed to the desktop while HOTAS/Joystick inputs are routed to MSFS. The buttons on the side of the headset can be used to quickly switch focus between the desktop and MSFS (basically turning the desktop overlay on/off). I discuss it here ua-cam.com/video/mytxLArmBm4/v-deo.html
@@aerofart I find the Varjo Aero has finally passed that sharpness threshold where it's easier to read the instruments in VR than on my monitor. It will be great once similar resolution is available at a more affordable price point.
Each time I watch a video of yours I spend money 🤣. I really enjoy your real world usage reviews, the detail and objectiveness. Great work... Next months pay is spent 😀
It’s an absolute gem of info to the point and understandable. I’ve just bought TrackIR 5 and still learning with games like OMSI,ETS2,ATS,MudRunner,SpinTires and Snowrunner. I have IL-2 BoS but that’s later for that as I’m playing with my new G29 setup as well. Thanks for a brill vid
I used TrackIR back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, if you have only one eye, and a narrow field of vision, TrackIR won't be for you. I was only able to turn my head about 5 degrees, and then the monitor went out of my field of vision. I did try adjusting the sensitivity, but things got a bit wonky, from there. As long as you have a wide enough field of vision, you won't have any problems with TrackIR. It tided me over for a while. I'm just barely able to use a VR headset, as my acuity is also very low, which makes reading some menus nearly impossible. However, I can still use VR in FS2020, and X-Plane, no problem. Just no depth perception, as I only see with one eye. Thanks for sharing this. Glad to know TrackIR is still developing their product.
@Sim Hangar, I personally use the zero cost freeware AI Track and open source Open Track with my webcam / cellphone camera, and am quite happy with the results that give me a good immersive experience.
I’ve used this solution as well, but I’m guessing it’s not as accurate or useable as a dedicated head-tracking system like TrackIR. Using a cell phone and OpenTrack requires good, consistent lighting and has more limited range of motion, TrackIR requires none.
I did the same, and used a Sony Ps eye camera set at 60 fps with a homemade IR Pass filter - with IR LED's on my home built clip - it works fantastic even in day with lights in the background - they are completly filtered out, showing only my tracking LEDs
I use Delanclip + ps3 camera + Opentrack software. Its as accurate as trackir, as usable as trackir and much less problems than trackir. Problems ? My crazy friend bought trackir and always had many problems with software and the first time clip fallen to the ground it was broken.
@@Čangrizavi_Cinik I made a homemade clip out of 10mm aluminium pipe and components - powered with a cable from old USB charge cable - no problems with breaking or batteries.
Hi Mark, your review is great. Really helped me make up my mind. I'll give a first-time user review when it arrives. Hoping this is the perfect alternative for a simmer who likes his yoke and throttle, 2 big screens and is worried about VR-sickness.
one of the best purchases i’ve made. for me, it was a game changer. it’s so much more natural to look around, especially when doing circuits/landing etc. it might not be for everyone but i cannot recommend it enough
track ir was a game changer for me. it’s so much more natural to quickly scan rather than move the mouse around. i’m still a terrible virtual pilot but i’m a far more precise one now.
But he said that for seeing back of aircraft we have to turn our head around 90 degrees. But wont it look very unnatural, that we are turning our head 90 degrees and the camera moves 180 but then we have to see the computer screen from corner of our eye as our head is truned 90 degrees?
@@abcdefgh6121 sometimes you do have to move your head in a bit of an unnatural way to look 180 but it’s definitely nowhere near 90 for me. if you turn too far to the side the trackir can no longer follow you. i don’t think i’d even turn 45 but i could be wrong. head tracking is no vr but it made everything so much better for me.
@@goalski134 Okay. Maybe i was wrong. I thought that to see to my left in aircraft, i have to turn 90 degrees. But there are few things i didnt know before. 1. We can adjust how much the camera will move per degree of our head movement. 2. We need a wide monitor to take full advantage of it.
@@abcdefgh6121 all good, i’m just reflecting on my experience. i know it’s not perfect but i love it. i automatically go to use it even when it’s not connected. i have that motor town game as well. it’s a pretty cool game but i cannot play it because it doesn’t support head tracking. it drives me nuts without it. that’s just my experience
Thank you so very very much Mark. Your first bit of advice ie. run software in administration mode only, saved me from throwing TrackIR in the bin. Wasted so much time this morning wondering where I was going wrong after watching other videos on UA-cam. I just had one big headache after another and then wondering how I get it going to enjoy it. This video explained everything I needed knowing to get started and have a great experience. For that I salute you Sir!
Benefit's vs VR are: - COST. To get into VR, I'd be spending $4k on a new PC + $1k for a Reverb headset. - it runs well on old PC's like my i7 6700k/980Ti.. - it's less physically tiring, not 1 to 1, even if its not as realistic. - you can refer to your notes on paper without having to constantly lift/lower a headset whilst learning a study level sim such as DCS-A10. While I do intend to move to VR at some point, I don't see the point of spending $4.5k until I can max out graphics with good FPS.
Quick feedback as I just started using track IR. Totally recommend this, it is a big step up in multi tasking. Only have two hands to fly with after all. Setting up is easy, fine tuning takes time, but consider it part of the simmer's fun.
Thanks Mark. I’ve used TrackIR since FS9/FSX. Wouldn’t be without it. Had an early one destroyed by a storm spike and had to race out and buy another one. Currently using Version 5. I also fly in VR with the G2 but TrackIR is my go to for 2D flying. Small advantage with TrackIR with MSFS is the ability to position your plane in the view on your monitor for pics or just watching the scenery the plane flys over.
What an excellently presented video ...clear, consice and informative ,must say well done Mark! ..Thanks. Would agree with everything you mentioned, including the headphone pro clip ..feels quite weak and doesnt fit some " thicker" head headphone bands. But once track ir5 is setup to the individual using it..its great. I used to use Track ir5 pro until i purchased an VR headset ..and to be honest i was thinking of going back to it ,occasionally ,since there ALWAYS seems to be something to fix with vr in MSFS2020 every time i load up the sim... Thanks again 👍
Great tutorial Mark. I've used TrackIR with the IR TrackClip Pro for years. With a 48 inch 4K HDR LG48C1 as a monitor I prefer it to my G2 because of the edge to edge sharpness. For such a big monitor I had to mount the TrackClip Pro vertically on the top band of my Arctis 9 headphones like an antenna 🤣. Works brilliantly. You can remove the tiny strip on the back of the TrackClip Pro and squeeze two tiny tabs gently, then turn the arm with the LEDs to get it into this orientation.
But he said that for seeing back of aircraft we have to turn our head around 90 degrees. But wont it look very unnatural, that we are turning our head 90 degrees and the camera moves 180 but then we have to see the computer screen from corner of our eye as our head is truned 90 degrees?
@@abcdefgh6121 You can either set a linear mapping or a user defined curve that maps head movement to effective movement. Curve is best. It takes literally one session for the brain to interpret the head movement as 'real', plus you don't need 'neck saver software' to check your six 🙂 Edit: You only turn your head about 30-45 degrees to each side to get 180 (you can define the curve) so you are actually always looking at your monitor.

I want to say thank you for all the great videos you do. I love them and they are some of the best if not the best in the areas you cover.. Thank you sir.
Thanks Mark. exactly what I was looking for. I had had nothing to do with TrackIR or VR and yours among other videos ahs convince me to get this software/hardware. Thank you so much for your expert opinion and explanation. I also tend to leave default settings where possible so initially at least will set it up the same as yours.
Trackir is a great tool. Had it for years but don't use it so much anymore because I don't want to wear a headset nor a hat all the time like that. Tobii is another great product which is an eye tracker which works excellently. No headset nor baseball cap required. I bought it for Xplane11 not having checked to see that that specific game wasn't supported. But it worked on my racing sims and Arma: Amazing. Had to remove the tracking bar when I moved to an ultrawide curved monitor some time ago because it didn't fit well on curved monitors. Now that I just "moved" to MSFS2020 last week I have to figure out a way to settle the bar to my monitor because MSFS2020 is a compatible game for Tobii.
Hey, it still works :) I forgot how much this changed things in 2D. First time I used the pro-clip as well (used to only use the cap attachment). Oh, and you're right, need to run it as an administrator :) :) :) Thanks again for bringing this back to everyone's attention.
It is best to set up your computer and TrackIR in a room where the windows are not behind you. Electric lights seem to not be a problem. I get around this problem with block-out curtains.
For only 20 Bucks I crafted an „ED-Tracker“ based on an arduino with girosensor, it‘s just limited to 3 DOF but it‘s so much better than static view, I won‘t miss it anymore. And you will not need the GPU power as you need for VR so my RTX2070 at an 1440p Ultrawide Screen is fast enough ;)
I have a Reverb G2 and am a VR fan for sure but I also have a Grass Monkey/ Puck IR. I would not be without either one. Head Trackers have always been overpriced but this one is a great value and has been completely trouble free. Unfortunately I can not say that about VR.
Even if VR works for you, there's a certain trade off in visual quality when using a headset. even in something like the valve index. it just doesn't compare to the graphical quality of direct monitor rendering in 1440p. this lets you have that freedom of movement AND the graphical quality. that's why I personally bought this product.
Thanks for this Mark. I installed Open Track today, version 3 and hust couldn't seem to setup the various axis's correctly. Got frustrated and removed the program. Your comments are welcome. Thank you!
Just my two cents simping but TrackIR was really good and quick about replacing my faulty unit that freaked out then died. I thought I wasted money compared to DIY/Delan clip and other options, til I realized Naturalpoint has amazing customer service and the price is worth that peace of mind, also that there's a huge team dedicated to making the software work and it's not up to you to get screwed over by a windows update and have to figure it out yourself.
Were I loved TrackIR - it's old tech. I have moved on to Tobii Eye Tracker and it is a game changer. Finally, I don't have to look like a dork when I game.
I've tried Opentrack with a Logitech c910 webcam I had lying around, and though it is a free alternative, I found it too hard to get the tracking and configuration of sensitvity working well for me in DCS. Moved to TrackIR recently, and though the tech is old, it still works very well considering other options
VR is genuinely superior for the immersion, but I have recently bought myself TrackIR. I'm learning my way around DCS World, and I have to Alt-Tab out of the sim constantly to research this or that system or weapon, and a VR headset it just a hinderance in situations like that. TrackIR is a nice alternative. Certainly better than nothing, or using a hat switch to look around.
Do you feel natural when using it with single monitor? I am just having a 16:9 FHD monitor. Will definitely try that on XWA, Squadron & Euro Truck Simulator.
Now I need to dig this back out of my closet :) I have the TrackIR V5 Pro, but for some reason stopped using it when I bought my curved monitor. Probably need a newer version of the software but I'll give it another try.
There is no going back from TrackIR. It should be everyone's default if they aren't using VR. Calling it a "Game changer", though a fun pun, is an incredible understatement.
I use the Delanclip with open track,I found a basic profile online and with a little tweaking it works fine.I did try other software including one that looks like Track ir,but couldn't get that to recognise my camera so opentrack is the one for me.........................
I have TrackIR 5, Tobii 5 and VR and all serve different purposes. I like using Tobi when I just dont really want to be wearing a VR headset or Headphones which my TrackIR is attached to. VR is excellent as we know and TrackIR is also excellent. I have had TrackIR for years and wouldnt do without it. I have a wireless rechargeable track clip for TrackIR so there are no wires to my headset. Looks exactly like the boxed TrackIR pro clip minus the wire. Cost me around £70 if I remember but is absolutely excellent and a game changer for ease of use. All have their benefits but for general everyday use it is hard to look past trackIR - excellent for DCS too. Tobii I think is more useful with the likes of ETS2, racing games etc (albeit sometimes I use it with MSFS, DCS etc) and VR is for pretty much everything that you want it to be for :-). For versatility etc TrackIR is hard to beat. As for cost - yes it is expensive but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Tobii 5 is far more expensive but not as versatile as TrackIR and doesnt always have 6 DOF. Not to say other systems are not good but as you point out in the video setting up other solutions can often be more hassle than its worth whereas TrackIR is very, very easy and durable. I personally cant do 2 or more hours in a VR headset and find i get fatigued with long periods of use wheras TrackIR you barely know its there. No doubt VR is best but outside VR it's hard to look any further than TrackIR in my opinion plus not everyone has a system that can provide enough resources for VR whereas TrackIR can be used on virtually any system.
Thank you so much - this is precisely what I've been looking for for quite some time. I have a question... if I have the sim running and I want to make a change to the TrackIR profile, do I need to quit the sim -> change profile > restart sim? Or can it all be done with the sim running? I've had TrackIR Clip Pro for over a couple years sitting in the box because it has seemed soo complicated; I can see it isn't now. Again, thank you!
Thanks for the video, appreciate what you do on your channel. I tried a DIY setup a year or more ago. The trouble I had, was that as your head moves, you have to keep your eyes on the monitor, so you're always looking sideways. Triple screens may help that when looking to the sides, but looking up or down, your eyes have to stay on the screen while your head moves. Is this something you all that like head tracking just got used to? Thanks for any feedback
I can’t seem to get trackIR to work with msfs. It works flawless with dcs, but not at all with msfs. There must be a switch or button that enables it somewhere.
I just ordered the TrackIR. Currently I sit about 20" from a 32" screen. Because my yoke is too low I am moving it up and will then sit about 30" from the screen. So I am thinking about a 55" screen which is just about the width of my Cessna 172 Sim. Does 55" make sense or I could go with smaller or 2 32" screens side by side. What do you think? Thanks.
I love my Track ir. My only downside is I have a window behind me with no curtains. I have to use it at night. I need to find someway to block the window light.
Hi Brett! I had the same problem. I bought some large black trashcan bags. Cut them to fit the window and use tape to hold in place of the entire window. Looks like hell, but no more mirror of your window in your Monitor I hope this helps! Happy flying in the daytime! It also makes a great conversation piece when people come over to visit!
I had the same problem - this was my crazy solution: I went to Walmart and bought a couple of large sheets of that black corrugated poster-board. Then I bought some PVC pipe and fittings from the Big Orange store and built a fixture/stand to hold the poster-board (like a projector screen?). Several nice things about it: 1) I can position it right behind my chair and it not only 'fixes' the TrackIR, but it removes all of the glare/reflections from my monitors too. 2) Since it doesn't cover the window, it still lets lots of light into the room. 3) I can move it anywhere I want - even into another room if I'm having issues with glare in there. 4) It comes apart in seconds so I can hide it in a closet if I want to. 5) It's pretty inexpensive when compared to other window cover options. Bonus: 6) It makes a nice background for Zoom calls - I don't want people to see my messy room anyway! Full disclosure: My window DOES have a mini-blind on it. But even when it's closed, it still messes with the TrackIR and causes annoying glare/reflections on my monitors. The screen I built works perfectly though! 🙂
My Trackir 5 recently have died after 18 months. Unfortunatelly it is getting very hot when it's on which led to damaging one of the chips. If you want to get a new one - I would recomend to find a proper cooling solution. Maybe attaching some aluminium radiator or combining the device with a fan.
Hey quick question... would the trackir 5 from THE RNH come with the hat and the track clip and the trackir for the monitor? I couldn't find anything on their website.
I just bought TrackIr and it is extremely frustrating in my situation. I have 3 windows where I have my PC, which makes using it during the day impossible. Under camera view the entire room is red from light saturation.
Curious. With this device, you obviously need to turn your head, but you'll have to keep your eyes fixed on a stationary monitor no? How does this work if you want to look behind you? How can you look behind you while still maintaining your eyes on the screen? Seems counter-intuitive
You can vary the degree of ‘’camera’’ movement in relation to your head movement. Move head 40 deg and camera could move 90 deg etc. a better head tracking option now is here ua-cam.com/video/AlzR3hksLTI/v-deo.html
Very interesting thanks! However I don't get how at around 7:30 you configure the ratio between your head movment angle and the output angle. I would also like that when I move my head like 60 degrees it actually output more angle in the sim so that I don't have to leave my eyes from the monitor. How do I achieve this? thanks!
Thanks for this. I’ve wired mine in for the first time today but MSFS2020 isn’t recognising it. I didn’t manually install as administrator so I’m hoping that will sort it.
I apologize if I’m asking a question that’s already been answered but didn’t see or hear it. Will this work with MSFS on Xbox? If not, is there something similar that does work on the Xbox version?

Thank you for this review. I do have a few questions, if you dont mind: 1. Is there a minimum distance ? I have... umm... rather unique needs so my facae is about 20 to 30 centimeters away from the screen. Does TrackIR work at that range when using the Pro Clip ? 2. If not, would it be possible to mount it elsewhere, like at a 45 degree angle from your head (on a cupboard next to the monitor, for example) ? 3. Do you keep the camera on your monitor all the time ? I would only mount it on a need-to basis when flying. Would that mean a lenghty recalibraiton process every time I mount it ? Thank you in advance for your help.
1 - that would be too close. 2 - yes you could mount it high behind your monitor angled down 3 - yes I do, but moving it and replacing it again in place is quick and easy.
I attach mine to my headphones. It really works well as I can move my head back or forward and it moves right along with me I can actually move up to an instrument if I can’t see it very well
what I did not understand from the beginning is, when you turn your head in a certain direction, you will not be able to look at the screen properly any more
You adjust the degree of camera (on screen) movement to be more sensitive than your actual head movement. Move your head 20 deg and the camera moves 50 deg for example. You configure the camera so although you move your head you can still see the monitor.
@@SimHangerFS Thanks for the reply, if you only had an XBox and were looking at a PC build for FS020 would you go straight to VR or would TrackIR be first stop? I'm having trouble deciding :)

Your voice could be on a 3 hour documentary about the Babylonian Empire demise and I would watch the whole thing
I use the DELANCLiP which is half the price and just a good as TRACKIR. Thanks for the video.
Not quite sure how I missed your shoutout to my channel, as I remember watching this video around a year ago - thanks Mark ;)
Thank you for taking the time to do the video, it's very helpful.
How's the resolution in vr compared to a track it?
Cool story bro
@@rinzler9775, that's interesting! Do share the details of how you did that.
Hi Mark, your review is great. Really helped me make up my mind. I'll give a first-time user review when it arrives. Hoping this is the perfect alternative for a simmer who likes his yoke and throttle, 2 big screens and is worried about VR-sickness.
Takes a while to get it perfect, but then you will not fly without it!
one of the best purchases i’ve made. for me, it was a game changer. it’s so much more natural to look around, especially when doing circuits/landing etc. it might not be for everyone but i cannot recommend it enough
track ir was a game changer for me. it’s so much more natural to quickly scan rather than move the mouse around. i’m still a terrible virtual pilot but i’m a far more precise one now.

May I ask how do you know if tracker software is in administration mode I just this ordered today.
Benefit's vs VR are:
- COST.
I bought the one that's a clip for a hat. Works phenomenal.
What a great review as always! Also pleasantly surprised to learn that Trent Palmer’s Kitfox is available as an add on.
Me too…for 2D I love it.
Thanks for commenting 👍
Great tutorial Mark. I've used TrackIR with the IR TrackClip Pro for years. With a 48 inch 4K HDR LG48C1 as a monitor I prefer it to my G2 because of the edge to edge sharpness. For such a big monitor I had to mount the TrackClip Pro vertically on the top band of my Arctis 9 headphones like an antenna 🤣. Works brilliantly. You can remove the tiny strip on the back of the TrackClip Pro and squeeze two tiny tabs gently, then turn the arm with the LEDs to get it into this orientation.
Now that must look odd…the things we do for flightsim 😂

Tobii review coming soon. 👍
Very useful video, appreciate how informative it is. Just got a trackIR and setting it up now :)
Blue side up... thats where ive been goong wrong. 😂😂😂😂
Lol
Track Hat has been around for along time.
FYI - the Varjo Aero has a feature called "Application Background" that allows you to use your desktop within VR.
Thanks very much! Hope one of these companies makes a version for the Xbox.
Thank you for your insight and comments, much appreciated 👍
I use a 3d printed trackclip pro. So I don't have a wire going from my wireless headphone's.
You can make smooth and speed changes whilst running, but recommended sim restart to get best assessment.
Was useful but why not share your TrackIr settings(file)
I can’t seem to get trackIR to work with msfs. It works flawless with dcs, but not at all with msfs. There must be a switch or button that enables it somewhere.
I just ordered the TrackIR. Currently I sit about 20" from a 32" screen. Because my yoke is too low I am moving it up and will then sit about 30" from the screen. So I am thinking about a 55" screen which is just about the width of my Cessna 172 Sim. Does 55" make sense or I could go with smaller or 2 32" screens side by side. What do you think? Thanks.
Both are practical options.
hi mark, i have a g2 with a 3080ti but do not like the 30-40 fps i can reach in vr in msfs 2020, with track ir the fps can reach 60?!?
I love my Track ir. My only downside is I have a window behind me with no curtains. I have to use it at night. I need to find someway to block the window light.
Hi Brett! I had the same problem. I bought some large black trashcan bags. Cut them to fit the window and use tape to hold in place of the entire window. Looks like hell, but no more mirror of your window in your Monitor I hope this helps! Happy flying in the daytime! It also makes a great conversation piece when people come over to visit!
Just buy some curtains. Works for me.
I managed to connect the trackIR5 with the mfs20.
But it disconnects all the time. I can not play.
Please help me again. thank you
I just bought TrackIr and it is extremely frustrating in my situation. I have 3 windows where I have my PC, which makes using it during the day impossible. Under camera view the entire room is red from light saturation.
When I open the control panel in MSFS. It called touch pointer and not Trackir. Is there any way to fix it?
Thank you for that Mark very informative great video as usual. People will find this very helpful the way you have explained it. Mav
This video was Very well done
So what is the thing that clips in the hat for? If the actual trackir camara does the head tracking movement why do you need the clip?
It’s the sensor….recommend Tobii Eye Tracker 5…just a camera.
I apologize if I’m asking a question that’s already been answered but didn’t see or hear it. Will this work with MSFS on Xbox? If not, is there something similar that does work on the Xbox version?
Not yet, but something is in the works development wise….timeframe TBA….not this year unfortunately.
Thanks Mark, appreciate the quick response.

Check you have enabled track IR in the camera setting from the top toolbar. Start TIR before starting sim.
Thank you for this review. I do have a few questions, if you dont mind:
2 - yes you could mount it high behind your monitor angled down
3 - yes I do, but moving it and replacing it again in place is quick and easy.
I attach mine to my headphones. It really works well as I can move my head back or forward and it moves right along with me I can actually move up to an instrument if I can’t see it very well
Thank you so much for the info ! Behind and angled down is a good idea, I may have to go that way.
Track ir is way better than vr ! With flight simulation you still need to see your hardware. Can’t do that with vr now can you?
what I did not understand from the beginning is, when you turn your head in a certain direction, you will not be able to look at the screen properly any more
You adjust the degree of camera (on screen) movement to be more sensitive than your actual head movement. Move your head 20 deg and the camera moves 50 deg for example. You configure the camera so although you move your head you can still see the monitor.
Having both MSFS and X Plane 12 - X Camera coupled with Track Ir 5 for X Plane is awesome! I really wish we had something similar for MSFM.
I use a 50 inch TV....could never find a good spot for the sensor to be able to look up at the overhead panel on the 777 or 737
Tobii have something under development…..😀
Very nice, how would this compare to say VR with a Reverb G2 v2??
I’m a VR addict….so VR wins, but this is a great alternative, as is the Tobii Eye Tracker, which does the same thing.

Stay Away from Oculus Rift S VR Solution, it is not and have not been working on MSFS, and the worst of it all is that Oculus does not care to fix these issues. I had many hopes for VR with MSFS, clearly not with oculus.
Dont use this on FSMS it doesnt work! I used this for 6 years on DCS no problem, on W10 latest driver, MSFS it fails! RUBBUSHED MY INSTALL!
Look up Grass Monkey/ Puck IR b4 U buy Track IR
I’ll check it out, thanks.
I don’t understand why anyone would like trackir. You are ALWAYS looking out of the corner of your eyes at a weird angle! Its terrible!
Bad technical explanation. Cannot understand what goes where. Bad and downvoted!
