  • Lychee is one of the most delicious fruits in the world. If you live in a desert climate or think your temperatures are too extreme to grow this tropical plant, check out my tree (purchased as 25 gallon, in ground 2 years) and follow this channel to get more updates on my progress.
    Tree care regiment -
Sun: Filtered all day sun (behind large tree)
Water: Summer every 2-3 days. Winter once per week.
Fertilizer: Natural fertilizer (non-chemical) every 2 months in summer, no ground fertilizer in winter. Foliar feed every 2-3 weeks year-round.
Winter: Frost cloth only when temperatures go under 30F.
    Foliar feed spray I use:

Has it fruited for you? Are they heavy producers? I’m also in the Phoenix area. I’ve been told that the Lychee tree tends to drop its fruit here in the desert due to the extreme heat.
It sure is a beautiful tree!

Last year it flowered but did not hold the fruit. It's only the second year in ground, so I'm hopeful as the tree gets larger it will retain the fruit better. Also, I haven't yet researched the proper care, pruning, and fertilization to maximize the probability the fruit hangs on -- next steps!

Haha, it's a great achievement but 100% completion will seem very far away!

Its an extremely difficult tree in the desert. They do good in a flood irrigated yard, thats the only place i have seen them. Only 1 percent of people her have flood irrigation, because those properties start at a half a million dollars, which most of us growing our own food do not have. Are you on flood irrigation?

Yes you are right this tree is on flood irrigation and does much better on flood. I have another lychee that is smaller and growing less quickly in a non-flood irrigated part of my yard. Very fortunate to have irrigation to help with trees like lychee and avocado.
